Todd Jones
I don't blame Todd Jones. He shouldn't even have been out there in the 8th. Boy, I was waiting on that one!

all the jack haters
eh... alot of us have been against Jack, even when we were winning a few weeks ago Why? Cause he didnt play Willingham? Listen, you know I respect Jack alot, but he has been driving me insane for a year + now. He seems to make a move every night, win or lose, that just leaves me shaking my head. And him not playing Willingham or Hermida isnt helping his cause in my book either. me 2 and not just on the field

all the jack haters
I've been mad at Jack since mid season last year. The team hasn't been playing well and something has gotta give. Usually, it's the manager. Granted, the manager suffers the consequence but lets face it, the 2003 hit its stride toward the end of the year, the 2004 team was ok after the big trade but very streaky and this years team, although we all had high expectations, was probably not as good TEAM as in 2003 or 2004 and truly lacks leadership. The supposed addition of Leiter was intended to be a key point here but his performance alone discounted the leadership aspect. eh... alot of us have been against Jack, even when we were winning a few weeks ago Why? Cause he didnt play Willingham? Because the team has been underachieving for two years. so if the parts to the puzzle dont fit, it must be the person putting the puzzle together. although I do agree that we have underachieved based on what we perceived on paper.

Who do you pitch then. Beltran (want RH) and then Floyd. Must be a LH

SO LONG JACK McKeon
Or what about Mecir? Were Villone and Messenger really the next best options in the bullpen? 956748 I'd have been fine just pitching to Piazza actually. Or Mecir vs the rookie. Either way gotta score more than 2 runs. 956753 one would guess that something is not right with Mecir, perhaps even Mota. You always pitch to a rookie vs Piazza.

Marlins 2006 Needs
I'm thinking similar to you. But. . . I would like Hermida to start for sure, and I'm liking what I'm seeing from Andino (but no rdy to declare him MLB ready yet). Add one or two vets with some pop to this team (jerome burnitz type player), and I think we will be fine on the offense. 954027 And you are ready to declare Hemida MLB ready?

Marlins 2006 Needs
Chemistry has had nothing to do with our problems on offense. Just because the players may not like each other off the field doesn't mean that's the reason why we're struggling. We're struggling because we have one of the worst hitting coaches in the league who can't seem to fix hitters' swings when they're in slumps and poor situational hitting. 953937 What other explanation could there be for a team that leads the league in BA, yet is last in Close and Late? There is plenty of talent here, they just don't perform when the game is on the line. 953944 Back in June or July, I looked at the situational stats, the Marlins ranking and league average and opportunity and everything. And there was a trend that the Marlins played more cautiously when runners were on base, batting with 1 or 2 outs or behind in the count. Fewer strikeouts and a higher batting average than league average but fewer runners from second or first scored than other teams. Search the archives it's there under the title 'analysis of the offense' I don't have the time to update it, but maybe at the end of the season. That's on the coaching staff if they're sending that mesage, halting runners and/or teaching those techniques. 953984 Blah, Blah, Blah......it is on the coaching staff. Are the players ever responsible for anything?

Disturbing Comments from McKeon
unlike you ferry, these professionals don't need to make up excuses. Man to man, they know they have not met expectations and can be forthright about it, when the time is right. This is not an office assistant job. These guys are in the limelight everynight, one that every mistake is scrutinized. Rationalizing I could agree, making excuses, not. It must be the media and its relationship with McKeon that it has not been that harsh on him. or maybe it is just that these guys are around the club and realize the obvious.

Say hello to YOUR 2006 starting shortstop...
It is tough for everyone coming off the bench to have a lot of success. But you can only play 9 on a field at one time.

Disturbing Comments from McKeon
Jack, we had poor infield depth last year too. Want to know why? Because you gave the job to Lenny Harris over Wilson Valdez. 953613 OK. There is more to a book than the cover.

2nd Worst Bullpen in the NL?
Are we really that bad? It would seem we have way too much talent to be ranked so low. So what is the reason? Poor bullpen management? 951751 I'm at a lost for any other explanation than that. Relievers are often inconsistent year by year, but nearly all of our guys?! Someone or something had to bring that on. 951768 Something - Inept offense causing any form of inconsistency (walks/hits) to be magnified. Someone - Besides injuries to Mota, Bump, Mecir, Alfonseca, we have a lot of one inning guys who can not pitch back to back days (contractual?). Add the likes of Villone, Smith, and the inexperienced guys (mess, Resop, Vargas, Olsen, Braz), there has been a lot of turnover. One mainstay in Jones. Has BP management been great? Probably not but clearly without starters going 7-9 innings every game, all issues with BP staff is magnified and combined with inept offense makes it worse.

The Logical Thread
I suppose we will see then next year.

We need offense
with the initial 24, i agreed 2 months ago but also realize it probably will not happen until next week (if/when out of race)

The Logical Thread
Since this is the logical thread, I'll be logical even though some of my tagalongs (the Godfather & Dogfish) don't think that I am. I really wish that the cult of Jack supporters would stay unseen on days like this. You don't see Jack bashers maming too many comments on days when the fish look great. It's just insane to make statements on days when something in that day's game can make you look wrong. 951277 Just dont think that some of us Jack supporters are not as disappointed as anyonem....maybe even more so. And dont think that all of us agree with every move, lineup either but at the same time, this team has not performed from management down to the players.

Villone + Messenger = White Flag
Can someone explain to me what the hell was Jack (off) McKeon thinking when he brought in Messenger? I partially understand Villone, but Messenger? How many times does this guy have to screw a game up before Jack (off) realizes that the guy isn't ready to be out there in the middle of a playoff hunt? At this point, you have to live and die with your veterans unless a rookie PROVES that he can be out there. :banghead 946791 Boy you must have a real problem jack (off) ing. Oh, forgot....you have a ring won in the little leagues and you know the situation of all of the veterans. Like someone said on this forum, you are a disgrace to any profession. 946932 Yep. Ever notice how certain people only come out to post after a loss ? 946935 Yep. Ever notice how certain people only come out to deflect criticism from Jack? 948021 yep Ever notice how certain people pretend to live straight and precariously through their dreams only finding out that their reality world ends in October.

Villone + Messenger = White Flag
Why you wouldn't put your best pitchers in during a close game is beyond me. Why let the lead increase so much that a comeback becomes all but impossible? As soon as Jack brought in Villone I was screaming at the television. It's demoralizing. Hold the game close as long as you can, don't put your worst pitcher in. I'm just dumbfounded. 946491 if we score in the 7th, a different game and probably a different set of pitchers. Did we give the game away, NO but play the percentages that Villone or Mess could hold for one inning. Either way, this is not about one game but 16 more games. The pen was used a lot during the Philly series and who knows (lol) about the status of Alf or Mota. Do know would not waste Mercir tonight. Again, we might have lost this game but the object is to win the war.

Villone + Messenger = White Flag
Know why you cant go with Mecir, Jones, Alf or perhaps even Mota. Not sure about Resop or Johnson but if the logic of many on here is real, then why throw an inexperienced pair on the mound. Mecir can not throw back to back games, Jones has been worked, Alf has been pitching but living dangerously and Mota...well suppose he is saving for a better situation like tomorrow if Vargas does not last long. We may loose the battle but win the war.
