Kinda on topic............One of my regular customers called me yesterday and said a Marlins sales rep just left his place of biz, offering them tickets at 90% off. Looks like they are having a hard time giving tickets away. Those are some guys who have a booklet to sell, they pop up every year. It's a program. If your buddy would have asked him he would have had a facial place and some other booklets to peddle. I've never seen a marlins rep walk into a place to solicit, but have seen the previously mentioned scenario alot.

Broward County approved $4.2 million for a new scoreboard at the BB&T yesterday. Great news, as the Panthers had the worst scoreboard in the NHL. Yormark said the scoreboard can fall and kill people- from what I read on twitter. I dont agree with that kind of tactics.

Did they say that no employees will have their hours reduced? The article I read said that no jobs would be lost but hours would be cut. Same thing I read. Which is corporate talk for hours getting slashed, employees can no longer afford to work there, find other jobs, and quit. Or quit to find another job, which means no unemployment insurance benefits. A win-win for the company.I'll look around for where I read it. Realistically the two stands that were open only had two people working them anyway. Regarding Unenployment Bob, show me a company willing to fire someone and have them get paid to sit at home and I'll show you a company that won't be around much longer. Every company does that, to motivate them to leave on their terms. You think it's a Marlins only problem because you legitimately have a blind hate for Loria and Co.

The more I think about this the worse it gets. I won't blame Loria, I'll blame the people who are actually receiving a check each week being employed as the top public relations/marketing people of the franchise. Didn't someone think that it would be better to at least try for awhile to attract folks to the upper deck. Give it to the All-Star Break at least and school is out and summer heat sets in. Money-wise it seems to make sense. Even if you give em' a hot dog and soda for $10 you still make money and they are going to buy beer and other stuff. I'm thinking at least enough money to pay the extra workers and all the concession workers. Even if you break-even overall money wise, you gain fans. At least try, in a new stadium. If you don't see any progress then shut 'er down in July. This is not necessarily true. If you offer a promo like that, some fans who would have bought more expensive seats would substitute the promo seats instead, which could net the team less overall money. Further, while there is some psychological effect from closing the upper deck, there is a psychological effect from selling really cheap seats, sending signals that may imply they are less valuable, which can bother some people. Some fans are going to substitute more expensive seats for promo seats? How many is some, in your best estimate? Who/where are these "fans" that are paying full price on a game by game basis that are going to choose the upper deck at $10(including a hot dog and soda coupon) over a heavily discounted lower bowl seat on StubHub or via a coupon in the local pennysaver. The pennysaver for crying out loud. There's coupons for lower level seats midweek buy 1 get 1 free...it works out to $9/seat. I suppose you're right, the franchise gets $1.25 for each hot dog and 37 cents for a soda so they would net 62 cents more. Money wise, is it worth 62 cents on these few marginal fans versus the psychological effect of having a dark upper deck. The dark upper deck cheapens all the lower bowl season/partial season tickets. An upper deck with some activity and noise adds to the value of all the lower bowl seats. Public relations wise...is it worth the loss of all the job hours for the locals? Deep breaths. I don't know the exact numbers. I'm just pointing out something to think about and noting that it's not a no-brainer either way. The job-hours is also an interesting consideration. They already said no one is getting their hours cut. They'll just reassign them to handle the lower bowl stands. Should equal quicker service times overall

The person this stiffs is someone that wants to take their kids and sit in the upper deck because it's cheaper. I have no issues with giving the people that bought tickets in advance an upgrade. But, it isn't right to gouge someone who doesn't buy their tickets in advance. This was another assnine money making move for Loria and his cohorts, period. He should just be glad that anyone wants to pay money to see his team. If he were smart, he would keep the upper deck open and sell those tickets for $5 bucks. Yeah man, because that person can't be a smart ass and buy Upper Deck tickets on Stub Hub for $5.00 and sit in their mandatory upgraded seats.

I do remember hearing that but I don't know how legitimate it is. And honestly, you could say Beinfest is going through the same thing here. If I remember correctly, wasn't those signings part of why Epstein left- he felt he didn't have the decision making power anymore on the team?

The panthers are a niche sport in south Florida, the marlins- due to Miamis Carribbean / Latin population- will never be that. The can be hated, but the money will always be there for them to make. The question will be how long will fans stay away? Two years? Until the Marlins win? Until Loria Sells? Realistically the fans never came when they were winning. I honestly feel a crowd of 13000 nightly is a strong showing for this market. I don't believe the team will ever or could have ever averaged much better regardless of who owned the team and who plays for it. People aren't as loyal and fanatical about their teams here like they are in the rest of the country. I believe it's because alot of residents aren't born here, and they don't have that same shade of civic pride in their hometown team they have in Milwaukee, Utah and Portland.

Couldn't it be possible this third party doesn't find it worthwhile to sell a bag of popcorn and a souveniour soda and Employ three workers at 8.00 an hour to sell it to you? I mean- to run one stand for a game it may be around 800 in expenses and payroll being thrown out the window daily. Never mind the setup and prep. How many stands are we talking about in the upper level? Even if it cost them $200,000 a year to keep it open, its better than the embarrassment they have caused themselves. The $200,000 also assumes that no one in the upper level makes any purchases at all. To put it into perspective, the league minimum for a player is $490,000, meaning $200,000 is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. They'd be better of only operating certain concession stands in the upper level and not saying anything.I was saying, did the marlins shut down the stands- or did Levy say they were shutting it down and the marlins figured well close the upper deck before Levy gives them the black eye.

What killed them was not having direction in who they wanted- not the marlins. They'd originally wanted it to be high end retail shops---- in a Latin ghetto. That's where they screwed up. Subway- and other companies like it are perfect. I've never heard of those other "high profile" places- tilted kilt might be the exception.

Before somebody asks me for my scientific poll evidence again, I did not take a poll. The following is an assumption of mine. I assume that the majority of people who buy upper deck tickets do so because they are cheaper. Yes, some may buy them for the extra space around them with less fans. Most though, it's expense so the Marlins would be giving them more for their money with the upgrade to lower bowl. Or some people buy upper deck seats just to get in an sneak down closer

I believe so, he's shown promise. Realistically he is a decent catching prospect with the potential to be a long term ML catcher. Think more Matt Weiters but with better average and maybe less pop when he develops fully, not Yadier Molina. If he has a John Buck or Paul Lo Duca like career, I'd consider him a sucess. I don't see anyone else really being a top tier catcher in our system, and we missed our chance when we didn't get D'Arnaud.

Stay classy, guys. The guy was an ass, to the fans and to his teammates. When the organization needed him to make a move, he through a hissy fit. When he left, he couldn't have been happier. To me, he is the epitomy of whats wrong with sports stars today, with feelings of not only entitlement- but also complacency with their contract and a focus on only his individual goals. I do not wish harm upon him, but you better believe I will acknowledge it when it comes. To me, his Hamstring issue may be from his inactivity during his rehab. Who knows if he actually worked out at 90% while rehabbing. I mean, have you ever seen him legitimately go out of his way diving to make a play to 3rd? Actually, he moved to 3B. Also, he was probably happy when he left because athletes aren't fans. They make millions of dollars, and most don't really care when they get traded. Not to mention that many players have been happy to leave this organization, specifically. There's no way to prove the hamstring issue. Saying the guy doesn't work hard is not a fact. That's like saying that Stanton doesn't work hard enough because he keeps getting injured. How about the fact that he injured his hamstring hustling on a single, trying to go from first to third? Hanley has gotten the lazy perception because he used to be a superstar and regressed, and because he had one incident of not running hard. To me, before that booted ball- He didn't try hard, he was complacent. I would rarely see him go the extra foot to his right to get a ball, nor would he even dive for it. He was an ass to fans, because not only have I experienced it first hand- but I've heard stories about it as well from members of the front office WHILE he was a Marlin. If you'd like me to describe the few instances I've seen or heard, feel free to let me know. For what it's worth, whether Stanton wants to be here or not- he gives a shit what people think of him and he tries to please the masses. Squall may have his experience with Stanton, and I have my own- but I've seen the guy sign 10 things for one kid and graciously sign for others. Hanley seemed like he couldn't be bothered to try to go that extra step for a groundball or to make a fans day. To me, he's an ass.
