From 93-02, he averaged 35 homers and 107 RBI with a batting average of .322 - that's an amazing 10 year stretch [346 homers and 1066 RBI], especially at the catching position. Should have won the MVP award in 1997, IMO. That 1997 season was incredible, especially with his .362 average and 40 HR's. How Walker won it playing half his games in Coors Field boggles my mind. I'd vote in Schilling Biggio Martinez Walker Bagwell You've made it a point to not vote in Clemen, Bonds, Mcgwire and Sosa, were you lumping in piazza with them or was there another reason. As a fan of Piazza's I'd just like to know why. The fact that he admitted using Andro, mixed with the fact that he magically gained 20+ pounds of pure muscle one offseason in '98, around the time the steroid era was in full peak, also, reports that Piazza told reports off the record that he used PEDs (reported in a book written by Jeff Pearlman, who has done some good reporting regarding the Mets). No doubt there's nothing concrete, and you can question Bagwell, who I put in on my list, as much as Piazza, but it just doesn't feel right to put in a guy with so many questions surrounding them into the Hall of Fame first ballot. Wow, I can honestly say your opinion is now worth nothing. My fanhood aside and it's easy to push aside- there is no reason to keep Piazza out of the HOF. None. Even Roger Clemens would have to vote him in. Compare him with the hall of fame catchers of the past 50 years (Bench, Fisk, Carter) and also to Pudge (who will make it) and he's not as good. Had he played 2 or 3 more years at a good level then he would have accumulated more good numbers and would be hall worthy. Your kidding me right? He has the most home runs of all those guys at C and has a 300 batting average. He also played respectable defense outside of his caught stealing rate.

Piazza,Biggio, Bagwell, and I need to review the names again. Edit: schilling, Martinez then maybe on Raines, Walker. Steroid era players who are eligible and suspected- mcgwire and Sosa together for their 98 season and what it meant for baseball. Bonds and Vlemens because they were never caught.

All other factors aside, why would Hamilton want to come here based on the fact that we are now clearly rebuilding? Three weeks ago I'd have at least mildly entertained the Hamilton idea so he could join Reyes and Stanton. Not now. Same reason why every player signed here last year without a NTC... We offer the most money and most years. Exactly why Reyes choose Miami, why Buerhle did and why Bell did. Even Pujols almost signed here until the Angels gave him more money and a NTC

Huh? He's not going to be starting 1B or anything, Logan is. And he's not a base-stealer, he's 6'6", the point was that he's athletic. He's a pickup for AAA and see what happens.
