  1. I say we trade them Almanza, Nunez,Wayne and Neal for Guillen and maybe a player to be named later. If we wanna ship almanza ...we have to get him out of here fast before his era is in double digits. and nobody will take him. Right now someone might take him cuz he's only 4-5 with...i forgot his era but its not in double digits yet Sounds like a good deal though...I don't want any of those players around, particularly...especially Wayne and Almanza. I'm no fan of Grilli or Neal, either.
  2. Yes, time is running short, we need to make a deal soon.
  3. If Armando Almanza had walkon music, it should be the Barney theme song, because he's begging the batters not to kill him. :lol
  4. Yes, let's please dump Almanza, the guy can't pitch. Especially if it would help us get Guillen.
  5. The Herald actually had a large report comparing the styles of management of both the Marlins and A's several weeks back on a Sunday. They were showing how the Marlins could have been like them, if we had done things differently.
  6. Catchers usually make a smooth transition to 1B... Yeah, if they've only played a year or two at the position, but in the last 3 days alone, I've heard people saying that LF's, 3B's, veteran C's, and others could play 1B. Doesn't sound right to me.
  7. Why is it that everyone thinks that every single player can easily become a first baseman? :confused
  8. Trust Selig on a financial issue? You've got to be kidding. Even if you give him somewhat of a benefit of the doubt, there is no way to hold MLB or the individual franchises accountable to ensure they re-invest. NEVER trust Bud Selig on anything related to finance. Anyone remember the "we're losing billions" debacle? Fortune magazine then showed that in fact, baseball is still earning money, rather than Selig's claim that they were losing dollars.
  9. Current payroll is just over $60 million, according to a report from Monday on ESPN.com.
  10. -Juan Gonzalez: Is on the trading block, having a great year, but was just placed on the 15-day DL. Has also said that he doesn't want to change leagues Chance of Acquisition Rating: 1 of 5 -Brian Giles: The Pirates are shopping him, he's a power-hitting outfielder, perfect for our needs. The problem is, the trade cost would be enormous, and his contract would be difficult to swallow. Plus, the A's are getting close to a deal for him. Chance of Acquisition Rating: 2 of 5 -Jose Guillen: Good outfielder, but his past is pretty erratic. A decent temporary solution, but can't hit for power. I would rather have Cabrera playing in LF than him. Cincinnati is shopping some players, Guillen included. The most realistic LF trade option. Chance of Acquisition Rating: 4 of 5 If I missed any players, let me know.
  11. SLIMMING SHEFFIELD You would think Gary Sheffield would be accustomed to extremely hot weather having played for the Marlins. But the first-year Braves outfielder said he has "exerted so much energy out here in Atlanta," and it has caused him to drop 6 or 7 inches of waistline since spring training -- seven notches on his belt. "It has helped me as far as running, but as far as a power hitter, I need to keep the weight on, so I have to start cheating and eat some bad food, maybe more steaks and pasta," Sheffield said. "I thought it was called Hotlanta because of the women. I didn't know it was called that because of the heat." :lol When is this article from? This is Sheff's second season in Atlanta, already. It is funny, considering SoFla's stupidly warm weather, but a little old. :cool
  12. Yes, it should happen...I mean, Castillo has 6!
  13. Hey, the numbers don't lie. We're good.
  14. LOL I really doubt Floyd would welcome a trade back to S.Florida and personally I don't want him back although he was my favorite player before trade.Guillen or Bust!! Yeah....he kinda blasted the team for trading him last year...i sincerely doubt he'd want to come back. I have yet to hear Jose Guillen rumored to be coming here, although I'm sure he's available. He could certainly help out.
  15. yea, we had a thread on it link Yeah, i remember it, I was just reminding him about it. In addition, there's no way we'll trade for Kendall. Last I checked, we have Pudge, and Kendall signed a large contract last year I believe, which Ramp showed us. It would make no sense at all. I don't see Kendall going anywhere this year.
  16. You should see what the Oakland A's are offering for Giles. They are reportedly offering several top-notch players, including prospects, for a total of 4-5 players. In any case, the Pirates won't give up Giles easily, and I honestly don't believe we can afford to give up the players they would be asking.
  17. I think one reason for this is the fact that we dropped two straight before winning tonight, and alot of people went down to the Pro yesterday to see the Marlins get blown away by the Cubs. They also witnessed Willis' first loss since May. I'm starting to get the feeling that the fans have some kind of morale system. It's kind of weird, but they stay away after a loss or two. The fact that we're playing the Expos until Wednesday probably didn't help. Just a theory.
  18. The big problem is yes, Castillo will be a FA after this year, and i doubt we're going to match that price. Honestly, i think we should have only one leadoff-type player in the lineup, we don't need Castillo AND Pierre. We should just keep Pierre. I'd like to put him in some kind of deal before the deadline, i don't think it would affect things that much. I have yet to see a major league team in my lifetime win games by replacing power with speed, especially these days. I'd rather add a power bat in a potential Castillo trade. Maybe some people will disagree, but we'd be better off with more homers or better pitching than a fast second baseman. I would agree with the Rondell White deal that was mentioned earlier.
  19. You know, as much as I know people won't agree with me because of the fact he was only with the Marlins for one year, but I have to vote for my favorite Marlin/player (Team MVP 97!): Moises Alouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! He had one hell of a year in 1997, but so did Livan Hernandez, and Livan has never come close to returning to his rookie form. He is currently the winningest Cuban pitcher in the majors, however.
  20. CABERRA was better when he was with Minnesota GO DIME This guy's doing his best Ralph Wiggum impression.
  21. very tru.. someone will hit 35 this year tho I think Lowell will break that team record.
  22. According to a report on ESPN.com, Lowell went in for tests to determine whether he was having a testicular cancer relapse on Saturday. Thankfully, they came back negative. He has one more test to take care of, but according to ESPN, he should be back in the lineup on Monday. URL of Article: http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0719/1582947.html
  23. The answer to this is not what many people would expect. Sadly, because our team has traded or lost its' successful starters to injury, the Marlins' franchise win leader is: RYAN DEMPSTER. In second place, oddly enough, is Pat Rapp. Go figure. Dempster only won 42 games here. Even more disturbing. However, if Willis keeps this up, he can pass Dempster with three good seasons of work.
  24. DIME should be on that list........... What the....? I have NO idea what you're talking about. But somebody else voted for Sheffield.
  25. I'm just curious what people think...this may have been asked before, but I think it's worth being a topic of discussion
