  1. Gaby is older than Hermida. You see no talk about Hermida? Are you blind? He's the most hated guy on the team? I was trying to make a point,I guess i didn't do a good job . I feel Hermida is a great player that needs time .and he's the most hated player without reason.
  2. From what I've been hearing, Gaby is making a fool of himself so far. It looks like the 1B job is more open than we thought but hopefully that will just mean Cantu/Dallas at the corners. I was at the game and that error was a double with anybody else their it was a shot down first base line from a righty and he was able to get a glove on it , was not a error . the bat look pretty good from what I saw not finding holes but they will .You guy are really Gaby haters. I see no talk about Hermida ,I'm sure Gaby will do the same. :thumbup
  3. we've seen players come up from a young age and dominate automatically in this league. Morrison prepares for move Sanchez blocking top prospect's path to first By Juan C. Rodriguez | South Florida Sun-Sentinel February 20, 2009 JUPITER - Depth charts change all the time, but the Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! may not need to make adjustments at first base for a while. Assuming rookie Gaby Sanchez performs as expected, he could have that spot locked down indefinitely. So where does that leave prospect Logan Morrison? Possibly in left, but the Marlins aren't shooing him off the infield just yet. Thursday, manager Fredi Gonzalez said Morrison will spend most of his first big-league camp working at first base. "He works out with them in the outfield a little bit, but we have plenty of outfield guys we need to look at," Gonzalez said. "In a pinch, if we go out to St. Lucie or something and we get a collision, I{minute}d feel comfortable running him out there to left field." It's premature to declare Morrison blocked at his natural first base spot, but the Marlins have begun preparing for that possibility. Morrison spent the early part of his offseason in Jupiter learning the fundamentals of left field. A couple of outfielders were hurt on Morrison's Arizona Fall League team, affording him the opportunity ? with the Marlins' blessing ? to give left field a try. Morrison said he played about seven or eight games out there. "I was getting more comfortable when I was out there toward the end of it," he said. "I had two assists, so that was cool, but a lot of that was a misplay by me. I'm not going to be [Cameron] Maybin covering all the ground in the world, but I think I can handle my own out there." Finding a spot for Morrison isn't a pressing concern right now, but he could soon force the issue with his bat. Last season, Morrison took home Florida State League MVP honors after leading the circuit with a .332 average, 38 doubles and a .402 on-base percentage. Those numbers prompted Baseball America to rank the left-handed hitting Morrison, 21, as the organization's third-best prospect behind Maybin and outfielder Mike Stanton.
  4. Although if Gaby is starting against RHP, I dunno....I really worry about his power.... Nny you really don't have to worry about his power .believe me his going to hit for power What does that mean? 15-20? 20-25?? 25+??? I can't see him hitting more than 15-19 HRs... Lets all be surprise :thumbup :shifty

  6. I wish MarlinsLou worked for the Marlins organization. I'm not sure if the Marlins would do the 1B/3B platoon, but that platoon certainly makes sense. All 3 would get the chance to play (with Cantu getting the most AB's of the 3)...all 3 would see time at their respective strong defensive positions. All 3 would increase their trade value, when it's all said and done. Makes sense to me. Last time I look baseball is not played platooning I think it's football
  7. Cantu is not playing 2B. Gaby doesn't display over .500 slugging potential in the majors. All of his success is against lefties, and he posts modest power (.438 slugging) against right handers. He's a MLB bat for sure, but it's very doubtful he can get over 20. Maybe in a peak year or two like Sean Casey, but that's about it. his first major league game was against Redding I think is righty and he went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles no lefty in that game . Small sample but good things to come. What's wrong with .500 and your looking at last years # only .only 20 HR that sounds like when the forum was saying that AA would do him in ,and he would not hit 40 doubles again or hit more than 10 HR or more than 60 RBI. ALL WRONG
  8. My only problem wit hthis proposal is that we would then have a platoon at both first and third...not an ideal situation in my mind no matter the righty/lefty splits. I could understand this year because we were trying to replace the void at third left by Miggy, and JAke was so woeful against lefty pitching. However, both issues will not exist next season (because we proved we could replace Miggy's bat and upgrade the defense at the position, and Jake should be gone) thus there's no reason to platoon both positions. There simply is not enough playing time to go around in that situation, thus Gaby and Dallas would both suffer; young players need AB's and rep's in order to establish a groove, and I think this moove would negate the purpose of platooning in the first place. Just my take. It's absolutely an ideal situation. They have to promote McPherson or they lose him. McPherson isn't going to hit LHP very hard, but he's probably going to be one of the best bats on the team vs RHP. He's going to whiff a ton, but he's going to hit a lot of random HR and BB his ass off like he always has. Stick him 7th or 8th, and just let him rip. You just literally have to take him out of the lineup vs LHP. Now, you can do this with Helms and have a McPherson/Helms 3B platoon and just leave Cantu at 1B, I'm not entirely opposed to that, but Gaby is probably going to hit more than Helms at this point and should hit about as good as Cantu vs RHP with better defense at 1B, so getting him out there is to the organization's advantage. You split 1B Cantu/Gaby vs RHP, Gaby LHP, and 3B McPherson RHP and Cantu LHP, and your offense and defense increases while givings tons of AB to everyone. That general "platoon" (which I don't understand why a lot of you associate as a bad thing) gives Cantu around 550 PA, McPherson 450, and G. Sanchez 400. That is more than enough for the young player's progression, and probably helps them, because it shields them against their largest weaknesses while letting them get their feet wet. Let them build confidence and exposure to the league against what they are best suited to play against. All three are imperfect players. Cantu has low OBP potential and is horrible defensively at 3B. McPherson is useless against LHP and is an all or nothing guy like Jacobs. Gaby has very low slugging, even if he should produce a fun average. None of these guys are longterm starters. You mix and match them for the best possible production. You take advantage of McPherson vs RHP, Cantu and Gaby's ability to hit LHP and to play defense at 1B. It's that easy. And if one or two of them take off, or some fails miserably, you then reassess the situation and roll with it. We literally could not be in better shape for 2009 at 1B and 3B. A solid vet, an older player who was a top prospect trying to get back into the league, and an advanced college prospect coming off one of the best hitting lines in AA. And to distinguish another situation, Gaby and Dallas, are much different than Maybin and Coghlan who you can leave alone at CF and 2B. Those are players who project to be longterm starters at their position. Dallas, is always going to be the classic bash happy slugger and totally exposed to lefties. Gaby doesn't have the power potential to play 1B longterm. You don't want them out there everyday. It's very unlikely either turns into Josh Hamilton. Maybin and Coghlan though, are potential everyday players. If you bring them up, just let them rip everyday and see what happens. Sitting them in the bigs (like what the Marlins did with Andino this season), versus sending them to AAA, would adversely effect their development into a starting player. MarlinsLou you keep promoting a platooning and I think the Marlins won't do that. McPherson will play 3B Cantu will play 2B and Gaby will play 1B .Gabys' # are great against leftis and rightis his SLG in AA was .513 and his doubles have increased every year as well as HR and RBI .He will hit 40+ doubles and 25 to 35 HR and 100+ RBI .Helm will be there to back up 3B and I think Gaby has the power potential to play 1B and hit in the middle of the line up like his done every year in the minor league. That is why Fredy call him a hitting machine .This is one of the kids I been following for 3 years and his done it at every level.I don't understand why this forum is not high on this kid but they will next year.
  9. I am excited about Maybin, Raynor, and Coghlan, not so much about Gaby. A first baseman who will likely be little more than a singles hitter with an occasional double and very rare home run just doesnt get me too pumped up. But the speed of Maybin and Raynor is something to drool over. Jimmy hates Gaby like Met fans hate showers. Gaby Sanchez's pic should be GABY SANCHEZ Pissing All oVer Jimmy 1 Hit at a Time or something close That's going to be alot of pissing
  10. I think both of you are too extreme on your predictions of Gaby. But what do I know, I'm just some dude. I dont really think my view is that extreme at all, as he is already 25 so it is doubtful that double power will start becoming HR power, it is likely better outfield defenses will cut down on his current # of doubles, and he has relatively little HR power as it is. Meanwhile, Marlins1 has compared Gaby to Albert Pujols, stated matter of factly that Gaby is a future all star and gold glover, and stated he will hit nearly as many home runs(36) at the major league level-per 162 game season-as he has hit in his entire MiLB career combined(40-in 370+ games so far). Marlins1 loses all sense of reality when discussing Gaby Sanchez. Neither of you think that. He dont because...well, I dont know. I dont because, well, I use stats and common baseball sense. He gets doubles right now at decent rate(1 every 12 at bats), which if it translates means 35-45 a year. But conversely, he gets a home runs at a putrid rate(one every 33 at bats), which translates to 10-15 a year. I guess you are right ,caveman you are using your magic bones to figure it . but look over your shoulder the gecko is coming.
  11. I was going to ask where Gaby's power went and then I remembered metal bats. boy that Gaby is good last night he was able to sneak a metal bat in the game and hit a hit a double and a home run ,3RBI He still doesnt have much power. MLB outfielders are going to reduce his # of doubles, maybe in half, and his home run power=15 in his absolute best years. every time you write something about Gaby he continue make you look pathetic. but your right MLB outfielders are going to reduce his # of doubles they'll be home runs I think 1/2 of doubles 21+15=36 home runs

McPherson 3B and Andino 2B you mean mcphearson and Coghlan right? my opinion is knowing what the Marlins have done in the past would be that Coghlan does not need to be protected until next year so they'll wait .

Look at it this way Gaby is our start firstbaseman 2009-2010 and Logan is gonna start in 2011-w/e I don't have a problem with that. It give Gaby 2 or 3 years to prove to Jimmy how absurd he sounds . but we all know what happens to player when they get to arbitration year.
  19. Marlins1 replied to kingzfan10's topic in Sports
Fair enough, sorry Godfather. The last thing I will say is that Logan Morrison is an MVP too, and his #s far outclassed what Gaby did at the same level just a year ago, while Gaby was 4 years older. I'm not saying Gaby is the better prospect, I just don't like the fact that you are completely disregarding the possibility. And thats different from Marlins1 how? I'm not even dealing with him. Not worth it. Rabbethan I don't have a problem with you and agree with most of thing you post. the problem is Jimmy for some personal (I think his Morrison) or not he has become a spokesman for the hate Gaby fan club for no reason. fist Gaby was only 23 last year when he played at Jupiter ,Morrison is 21 little age difference .Gaby will be 25 when he makes it to the show.Possibility Morrison will also be 25 when he makes it to the show so what. He makes no point that Gaby is also 1 year ahead of Morrison. Also Gaby has done it in AA were it count more than high A when Morrison does it next year I'll be the first to give him kudos. The way I did when he won MVP of Florida League. We need to give this prospect some credit the way his peers have by naming him MVP to me that means he is the best.

While I think the Pujols argument is a bit much, you don't think there is an argument that the MVP is our top 1B? It's one thing to not agree with it, but it's another thing to dismiss the MVP outright. Logan Morrison is putting up an OPS 100 points higher at Jupiter than Gaby Sanchez did at the same level last year, despite being 4 years younger than Gaby was(OBP 30 points higher, SLG 70 points higher). Morrison is the better defensive 1B. Gaby turns 25 in 2 days, Morrison just turned 21 less than a week ago. fact: you ignore the fact that Gaby is making you look like and ass on this site fact: I have never made any comments about Morrison fact: I think Morrison is a great ball player but will have to do the same next year in AA fact : Gaby will do the same next year for the Marlins he has done it at every level his played at. fact: I love the Marlins have these kind of prospect on their minor league ,it makes us better fact: I think you really like Gaby because you continue to keep writing about him so we can continue to write about all his accolades fact: you are ignorant .give credit were credit is due MVP for a reason he is a Great Player and is our #1 prospet at 1B.
  21. Marlins1 replied to kingzfan10's topic in Sports
A 2 year old article. Gaby is still not a power prospect, that takes care of that comparison. And Pujols is an excellent first basemen, something Gaby Sanchez is not. Pujols is also in the top 3 overall hitters in the game, something Gaby is not, as has been mentioned, he profiles as a 10-15 HR(in his best years) first baseman. As usual, you are grasping for straws. Gaby Sanchez MVP :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :thumbup Your a simple person, that or very very young. I'll take the young part as a compliment. I could provably be your father but you are ignorant
  22. Miami Herald 08/30/08 By BARRY JACKSON Though Dallas McPherson leads Triple A with 40 homers, the problem with him playing third base here in 2009 -- and moving Jorge Cantu to first to replace trade chip Mike Jacobs -- is the Marlins want to reduce strikeouts. McPherson has struggled with curves and sliders, striking out in 37 percent of his at-bats and hitting .272 (.156 in August). The best option might be keeping Cantu at third if Double A Southern League MVP Gaby Sanchez (.320, 17 homers, 88 RBI, 17 steals) wins the first-base job next spring or, otherwise, using McPherson at third, Cantu at first. the only problem is I don't think we can sign Cantu
