MLB 2K7
Not up on video games...when does MVP 2007 come out? It doesn't, unless you're referring to: a. MVP NCAA 2007 (in which case I don't know), or b. the 2007 Mod made for the PC version MVP 2005 (in which case the beta is available at MVPMods now) 2K Sports bought the exclusive license to MLB in retaliation for EA's acquisition of the exclusive NFL rights.

Yay, the on-air computer crashed!!
At my internship last summer, there was a day with a big storm. It messed up the main weather computer as well as the "telewriter" - even restarting that machine couldn't erase the scribbles on-screen. Of course, this was discovered when the graphics (statistics about storms) were needed during the broadcast. One of the weathermen (two were working that night because of the storm) was broadcasting just outside the studio, and was able to keep his composure as the production crew was screaming that there were "NO GRAPHICS". He was hired permanently not too long before this happened, and so I think he gained a lot of respect that day by keeping the on-air image under control amidst the chaos in the control room. That was an interesting day - I spent a half-hour watching in the control room (when this happened), and then the next hour in-studio, where the power went out and the generators didn't fully kick in (but we were only off-air for maybe 30 seconds, and we were tossing to commercial break anyway). It really showed me that you have to be ready for anything in this business - Murphy's Law generally applies all the time. So, FishFanInPA, did everything turn out well?

I've come to learn that broadcasting isn't really fun until something goes wrong. :nogood

Marlins sign infielder Aaron Boone
c/o MLB.com: MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins today announced the signing of infielder Aaron Boone to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Marlins Executive Vice President and General Manager Admin Beinfest. Boone, 33, spent the past two seasons with Cleveland, batting .251 with seven home runs and 46 RBI in 104 games last year. He has played 969 ML games with Cincinnati (1997-2003), New York-AL (2003) and Cleveland (2005-06) and was named to the NL All-Star team in 2003. He missed the 2004 season recovering from a pair of left knee surgeries. Primarily a third baseman, Boone has also appeared at second base and shortstop in the Majors, and owns a career .264 average with 115 home runs and 499 RBI. In the 2003 ALCS, Boone hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning of Game 7 vs. Boston, the fifth home run ever to end a post-season series, just the second in a Game 7. His father, Bob, played in the Majors from 1972-1990 and his late grandfather, Ray, played in the Majors from 1948-1960. Aaron's brother, Bret, also played in the Majors from 1992-2005. Boone resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona, with his wife, Laura, and their son, Brandon Aaron.

Full List of Non-Tendered Players
I'd take fliers on Guiel and Werth. Guiel? No thanks....isn't he like 35-36? I'd rather have Abercrombie. He turned 34 in October.

Bob Barker Retiring
If and when he allows the episodes from the 70's to the 90's to air on GSN then my opinion about him may change. The main given reason the old episodes haven't run for years has been that it was a CBS decision, fearing over-exposure of the show. I tend to doubt that's the #1 reason... but you're right in that the old shows were definitely better (with Marc Breslow and later Paul Alter's masterful directing work). If they do air again at some point, I'm sure Bob will make sure that any of the older episodes with fur/leather products will not air on GSN, similar to the agreement that existed when they aired on the channel then known as Game Show Network. Still, given the off-air persona some (ex-)staff members and co-workers have described, "The Price is Right" has become Bob's show and as much as I'd like to see it survive, I'm not sure it will. FremantleMedia, PLEASE don't hire Todd Newton.....

Yankees Pick Up Sheffield's Option
whoa. I thought he was 100% okay playin 1B for the Yanks. I know I would be. He said on sportscenter a while ago that he would do whatever would benefit the team. guess he doesn't have the same views now.. In an MLB.com article, it says that he would be happy at first, if it meant that he had a multi-year deal to stay with the team.
