  1. Is it possible that they finally realize that Bonifacio's terrible offense is only matched by his awful defense at third (ex: his two throws in the eighth and ninth last night)? Probably not, but I hope they give Gabby a chance to play. No reason to call him up to bury him on the bench. I still think that Maybin should also be up here. He can't show much more in NO.
  2. It seems like they usually work from 7am until about 3:30pm every weekday...that has been the pattern I've noticed from watching the webcam.
  3. Why are they waiting till then? I'm no construction expert, but probably because they still have to finish the prep work before they can start the foundation. If you look at the webcam, they are still digging up ground and I'm guessing laying down pipes or wires, or anything else they have to bury.
  4. I saw/heard something from Samson someplace(sorry I can't find a link) that the first concrete for the foundation gets poured August 1st..or maybe he said the first week of August. Either way, it looks like we have another week to 10 days of grading/site work and then things will pick up!
  5. Personally I think all of these new ballparks with "quirky" outfields are stupid. For example, the wall at Citi Field has areas that jut out for no good reason. Old stadiums had these wierd configurations out of necessity. They were squeezed into small areas like Fenway or Wrigley. The outfield only has the triangle at Land Shark only because it is a football stadium and that is how the stadium is constructed. To add strange outfield angles just to seem more "retro" would be a mistake. The Marlins ballpark is meant to get away from the trend of "retro" stadiums. The goal seems to be to create something completely unique in stadium design. The renderings look awesome. I can't wait to see it come to life. That said, if you look at the new rendering photo gallery on the Marlins site, the wall in center by the water feature does have a wave-like curve in it.
  6. You can see the new video animation on the Miami Herald website. Go to the sports page and go down to the video section...It's awesome.
  7. As much as I love Niner, he's no Tommy Hutton. Tommy is awesome...he needs to hurry back.
  8. Yup, they have been doing a lot of work on the OB site since the 1st. Saturday will be more of a ceremonial event, but it should be very cool. I can't wait to see the new renderings and videos.
  9. I also read that they are shifting the setting primarily to a med school with Dr. Cox and Turk as the main professors. I'm not sure why they needed to have another season though. The finale last year was great and they should have left it there. With Bill Lawrence and the same writers on board, I'll give this new show a chance though.
  10. Found it: http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/forums/topic/87262-huntmoss-buildout-milestones/ Of course thi smay have changed, but this gives a pretty good timeline.
  11. I thought that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was overrated. The Pro Football Hall of Fame was pretty lame too...outside of the ceremony for Dan Marino, which was awesome.
  12. Hedo Turkoglu is not going to Portland. Sounds like he is going to Toronto. Hopefully they make the playoffs and get bounced in the first round so the Heat can get their pick. Next year's draft is suppose to be stacked. LOL...I was thinking the same thing. I hope they make the playoffs, lose in the 1st round, the Heat get their 1st rounder and Bosh bolts for Miami. That would be perfect. I guess this should also end the Bosh for Beasley trade talk. The Raptors clearly aren't going to trade Bosh this offseasn now. Personally, I think that is good. I am totally against dealing Beasley without giving him a full season as a starter.
  13. Marcin Gortat has officially promised the Mavericks that he will sign their offer sheet come July 8th, it is up to the Magic whether they will match that offer sheet to retain his services. http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=4303432 what's so great about gortat. why are teams gushing over him. He's young, and can anchor your defense. He's KG without the offense. Teams like him because his per 48 min. numbers are very good. Something like 14 points 10 reb and 1.8 blocks per 48 min played. I'm not sure if that is such a great stat, but apparently many NBA GM's think he can be a starting center. Many NBA GM's think Zach Randolph is a good player also, so that isn't saying much. If you go by the same stat, Joel Anthony is one of the best defensive big men in the league.
  14. Ballpark groundbreaking ceremony set for Saturday, July 18 Fans invited to celebrate historic day The Florida Marlins officially announced today details surrounding the Groundbreaking Ceremony that will take place on Saturday, July 18 starting at 10:00 A.M. at the site of the new Ballpark located at 1501 NW 3rd Street in Miami. The announcement was made by Marlins Vice President of Marketing, Sean Flynn. The event is free and open to the public with the first 1,000 fans receiving a coupon for a ballpark-style lunch and a commemorative Groundbreaking pin, courtesy of Gulf Plumbing. There will be music, games, live entertainment, Billy The Marlin, the Mermaids and Manatees, all leading up to the official ceremony that will commence at 11:00 A.M. The ceremony, hosted by Marlins broadcasters Dave Van Horne and Felo Ramirez, will include the unveiling of videos of the new Ballpark and renderings that will be shown to the public for the very first time. Following the groundbreaking, all fans will have the unique opportunity to participate first-hand by shoveling dirt at the exact spot of home plate at the new ballpark. Also participating in the celebration will be special representatives from the State of Florida, Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, the Marlins and Major League Baseball. There will also be a ceremonial first pitch thrown by Charlie Hough and caught by Benito Santiago - the first ever "battery" in franchise history. "This will certainly be a very proud day for our community, one that many have been dreaming about for over a decade," said Marlins President, David Samson. "I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate the official start of construction and participate in an event that will represent an important part of this community's history." The Badia Spices Groundbreaking Ceremony, built by the Florida Carpenters Regional Council, is presented by South Florida Ford Dealers, Preferred Care Partners and Baker Concrete Construction. Parking will be available at the west corner of N.W. 7th Street and N.W. 16th Avenue. Leading up to Opening Day 2012, fans can follow the ballpark's progress from a webcam that overlooks the site of the new ballpark. These pictures can be viewed exclusively at www.marlins.com. Click on "Camera Control" to the left of the main image and zoom in and out. You can also click on the archive tab to look back in time. The camera's orientation is from North to South and images are updated every 15 minutes. The new ballpark's footprint will have a south-east orientation, with unobstructed views of Miami's skyline made possible by six operable glass panels. The ballpark will be located on the parcel of land bordered by NW 6th Street to the north, NW 4th Street to the south, NW 16th Avenue to the west and NW 14th Avenue to the east. With a capacity of approximately 37,000 spectators, the retractable roof, air-conditioned ballpark will be built on 928,000 square feet on the former Orange Bowl site. The ballpark will celebrate Opening Day in April 2012 and will attract a wide variety of events throughout the entire calendar year. Log on to www.marlins.com for more information on upcoming developments. Sounds awesome! Can't wait!
  15. I'm sure they'll sign at least 1 more D-man, but obviously the hope is one or two of Ellerby, Garrison, and Kulikov is NHL ready. Personally I'd feel a lot better about our defense if we can re-sign Skrastins and maybe even Eminger.
  16. The bond sale issue has been resolved as of around 1:30am. The problem was the interest rate caused the bond sale to be short by $6 mil, but the team has pledged to cover it and the votes all passed 9-3 in the county commission. Construction should be starting today.
  17. Exactly. What is there to complain about? If you think it is a dumb idea, don't do it, but it sounds like a good opportunity for someone who is looking to get into sports as a career at a time when nobody is hiring. Plus, if it helps bring a few extra people out to the stadium, it's a win-win.
  18. They had an interview with Samson on Marlins On Deck tonight and he said tomorrow was the big day with the bonds. He said something to the effect of people are working on the bonds as we speak in NY for tomorrow's sale. I'm not exactly sure where to see the results of a bond sale online, but there is a special Miami Dade County commission meeting to give the final go ahead tomorrow at 10am. So I'm sure the results will be known then. Perhaps someone with a better grasp of how this works can answer this...I would assume that a bond sale of this large amount is likely bought by financial institutions. I would also assume that when you have a bond offering this large, buyers are lined up in advance of the sale. Am I correct?
  19. I just tried the link and it didn't work....this one does it seems: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/fla/ticketing/supergroup.jsp?group=nyy3
  20. I found this posted on another message board....$10 infield box seats for tonight and tomorrow night. Click here Please move if this is not in the right forum, I figured more people would see it here.
  21. That stadium is horrific. FIXED It is pretty terrible. I had never been there before this weekend. Actually watching a game there is fine...all the seats face the field and the sightlines are good, but everything else about it is just unpleasant. The rings holding the roof up are ridiculous. I give the Rays credit for trying to make the best of it, but I think some of what they have done has made it worse. The painted bricks on the concourses, everything painted blue and yellow...the whole experience is just weird. It reminds me of watching a baseball game in Dania Jai Alai...when you walk in, it makes you feel kind of sad to be there.
  22. According to the rules: ?Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team?s chances of winning the game.? A mistake was made, it was corrected after 1 pitch. Clearly the 1 pitch Nunez threw while Coghlan was in the game had no effect on the Yankees chances of winning the game. There is no way MLB forces a replay because of it.
  23. I honestly don't think the team see Coghlan as an infielder...at least not a 3rd baseman. Gaby will get a shot at 3rd before Coghlan does. I think the more likely scenerio is Maybin getting called up when/if a current OF(Ross or Hermida) or Uggla (Coghlan going to 2nd) is dealt.
