Posted September 27, 200420 yr Who should it be? I gotta give it to Carl if he stays after the year he's had and after taking less (definetly would have to) to stay with us.
September 27, 200420 yr I'd love to go with Carl. But it has to be Beckett or Burnett still. Pavs should be our solid #3.
September 27, 200420 yr I say you gotta go with your best pitcher from the previous year. Pavano has earned that start I think.
September 27, 200420 yr I think Pavs gets the ball Opening Day next year, followed by AJ, Josh and then Dontrelle. I was thinking AJ with his amazing season after surgery, but Pavano has been our best pitcher all season long and deserves it more
September 27, 200420 yr If the Fish keep Pavs, he deserves the start. If they don't let AJ have it, he was supposed to start the 03 opener when his elbow started giving him trouble. He too deserves it and maybe it will kick Josh in the butt to not have it handed to him.
September 27, 200420 yr Either AJ or Pavano, but I voted for Pavano because of his performance this season.
September 27, 200420 yr Starting Burnett over a Cy Young nominee? I like AJ, but it's Carl's spot to lose. Whoever said Pavano is a solid #3 starter should be shot.

Probably very rare. Pavano deserves it...

September 27, 200420 yr You gotta give it to Pavs.... An Opening Day start is almost like a reward for your accomplishments the year before. Without a proven veteran like Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, etc... you can't really say anyone is our hands down Opening Day starter. It was Beckett this year for his performance in the post season last year. For 2005, it's gotta be Pavano. No question about it.
September 27, 200420 yr I'd go with Burnett on Opening Day. This would be how I'd like the rotation to look like. Burnett Pavano Beckett Willis I think its a good idea to seperate Burnett and Beckett since their similiar type of pitchers that way you give teams in a series different looks.
September 27, 200420 yr ARe you crazy? Pavano is is putting up cy young numbers, of course he starts.
September 27, 200420 yr Carl deserves it but if he leaves burnett will be the Ace 574211[/snapback] Will be? AJ is Ace now, sorry.
September 27, 200420 yr "Hey Carl! I know the Yankees are offering you approx. a billion dollars, but come resign with us for a few mil to play in front of a few thousand people that generally don't care about you either way. And PS, you'll be the number TWO starter!" Come on people.
September 27, 200420 yr Pavano had the best performance this year. Opening day starter really isn't that big of a deal. AJ knows he pitched well this year, but Pavano has been solid all year. Give him the start.
