Are we going to lose Lowell, Pavano and Mando?

Featured Replies

God.. this organization is ridiculous. It's tough being a fan of this team when they always trade away players youre becoming attached too.

I'll always be a fan of this team but its becoming more hard to do so.

We are looking last place right in the face if we keep this up.

F'ing ridiculous.

Yeah, Loria is an awful and cheap owner.

I'll probably STILL be ripped for saying that, but it's a fact.

Oh, and I know the White Sox owner sucks too, so yeah, save yourself an angry post directed towards me.

No, we just have a FO that:

- likes 30 year old catchers who can't field and can barely hit

- fires good coaches and players because of underacheiving and/or uninspired young superstars

- values outfield defense and the bullpen over offense

everyone needs to quit their bitching

jeez, this organization has been in the thick of things 2 Septembers in a row

if the FO thinks its a wise move to trade Lowell then let them do it

all this hatred to the front office that has given us 2 winning years in a row

sorry im just a little drunk and got a little upset when i saw the headline on espn that we are going to lose Lowell.

They better have something up their sleeves because I do not like the direction we are going in.

Thank you

I do not give a damn if they traded a the whole damn team, and got new players. If the team wins, then it doesn't matter. Everyone bashes the ownership for what they did in Montreal, but look at what they have done here in three years. Ticket prices are still among the lowest in the league. We have back to back winning seasons. Attendance increased a bunch. We have a world series title. We acquired a big name free agent in Pudge. We signed Mike Lowell and Luis Castillo to long term contracts even though Lowell probably won't be a Marlin next year which I am losing no sleep over. Lowell for Hee Seop and a prospect :whistle . Nah I don't really want Hee Seop back, but since everyone is so connected to names rather than winning maybe we should just bring all the popular players back.

I agree with you once again, Ramp. We should wait to see what happens this off season.

Maybe they're willing to let Lowell go and then go after Drew or some other FA. I'm willing to wait to see what happens. I wouldn't mind trading Lowell/Enc to the Dodgers for Penny (if his arm isn't too bad) and a prospect or two. Then use the left over money to sign Drew/Paul Wilson and resign Mando.

It will be an interesting off season.....

Ok.

At least our owner never waived the white flag while 3 games back.

We were 2 and a half back....

TRUST BEINFEST. He borders on being a genius, and he does the right thing. I want to trade Lowell too if he is going to walk into free agency on Nov 1. I, like Beinfest, would rather get something for him than not get something for him.

ok, were probably going to loose lowell but hopefully well get a good arm and bat to replace him. some decisions suck, but for the sake of the team, these better b good.

I don't have a problem with them trading Lowell, if they have to ok then but I expect Loria to put the 30 million then. Secondly for what Lowell has done to this team, at the very least show him more respect. He wants to have a voice to where he gets traded and he has earned that right. They haven't contacted him in 3 weeks, that's why they're pieces of s***. Think outside of the baseball diamond for once, this isn't how you should treat an individual that has been this loyal to your organization.

They won a WS last season, they can do whatever it is they want with this team as far as trades and signings...I have no problem with that. But just because they won a WS doesn't also entitle them to be disrespectful to a guy like Lowell.

all you people angry about lowell:

its HIS choice...he said he would want to leave...would you rather we get nothing or a few big leaguers out of it?

Exactly. Lowell has been hinting at leaving for far longer than 3 weeks. If he gets traded Lowell's contract becomes guaranteed, a contract that is far greater than he would have earned on a free agent market with Glaus, Garciaparra, Boone, Beltre and Renteria. It wouldn't surprise me if the two sides had designed all of this for each to save face.

Before anyone overreacts over one or two moves this offseason, wait until the final product is put onto the field in April...

Guys, come on, you're smarter than this.

I'm not a huge fan of Lowell, and yes, I got down on his second half struggles; HOWEVER, I know for a fact that Lowell is an elite 3B, who plays above average to gold-glove calibre defense. The "faith" you have is in us making (as ramp put it) "a wise move." Well, I define a wise move as getting equal value in return, and I see no way we get equal value for Lowell. Unless we get Carlos Lee or Adam Dunn, I'm going to be miffed by just about any trade, and write it down: the money we free up from Lowell leaving WILL NOT be reinvested in the team or the stadium.

And please, someone answer this question:

how can you trust an organization that, as recently as a year ago, designated Lowell as it's franchise player (we picked Lowell over Pudge/Lee, and to a lesser extent, Guerrero), yet is now falling over itself to get rid of him? His salary is modest so anyone who wants to use the ARod argument has no grounds, his production is good (I'd say his total value is equal to or greater than the $7.5 mil we'll have to pay him), and he's entering the prime of his career.

It boggles the mind!

if we lose Lowell and get rid of Enc, we could try and get Choi back..

1. Pierre CF

2. Castillo 2B

3. Lo Duca C

4. Cabrera 3B

5. Choi 1B

6. Conine LF

7. Aguila RF

8. Gonzalez SS

that wouldnt be to bad..tell me what u think (Just my idea, plz say if u like or dont like it)

For this team's sake, we need to keep AT LEAST one of those three big free agents. I don't want to lose any of them, but I would let Armando walk if we could keep Pavano and Lowell.

TSwift25, how can you continously rail against an organization that took a franchise that was cheated by Huizenga abandoned and thrown in the trash bin by John Henry to a World Series championship and a September playoff race in 3 years?

It boggles my mind!

Just let it go. It was only a hot dog!

Loria is not a cheapskate. He has proved he isn't by splurging for Pudge and Urbina. He has proved he isn't by putting a competitive team on the field and taking losses, rather than shrinking payroll so he could make a profit. If Lowell leaves the money will be reinvested in the team. Either a stadium and/or new players.

I agree, this maybe a tough offseason on the franchise, but in the long run Im sure we will come out better off. I rather lose lowell than to lose the team to another city.

agreed rferry..

I mean.. throughout there tenure. Loria/Samson/Beinfest have done great. Sure.. there have been a few questionable things that have happened.. But they try to make up for it. There the only owner in Marlins History to have 2 winning seasons.. I also never really blamed the Montreal Mess on Loria, the franchise in my mind was gonna move after there main core got broken up way before Loria.

I am not saying Loria and co. haven't done a good job since coming here, but it can easily be argued that Dave Dombrowski and the job he did after the 97 season of rebuilding this team is just as responsible, if not more responsible for our recent sucess, than Loria, Beinfest and co. The money for Pudge was freed up from the CJ, Wilson trade. (which was a good move obviously), but it's not like he went out and increased the payroll by any significant amount. Also, paying players for half a season is a lot cheaper than paying players for a full season, obviously.

My feeling is that Beinfest made some good moves (the Colorado-Atlanta 3-way deal, and the move to get Dontrelle), and these moves, along with the young-cost friendly players brought in after the firesale, made up for the lack of funding. Now, especially after the LA deal, we lack all the cost-friendly players of the last 2 years. Our young players are starting to get their big contracts, and I think Loria's refusal to spend is really going to start hurting us. I hope I'm wrong, but the fact that he didn't increase payroll after a world series, worries me.

You give an awful lot of credit to them for "taking" us to the series. Lowell, Cabrera, Castillo, Lee, Beckett, Burnett, Penny, Looper, Gonzalez...that's a pretty good foundation that Dombrowski left. Did Beinfest make some good moves (Pierre, Pudge, Urbina)? Yes, but Loria's still a cheapskate.

What you deem competitve is the glass half full mentality, to play the devil's advocate, Loria actually made us less competitve through his cheapness. I'm not saying we should have kept Lee, Pudge, Urbina, Looper and Redman, but keeping 2 of those 4 would have certainly helped us likely win the NL East. Hell, keeping Pudge alone would have done that.

And just because Loria is the lesser of the three evils we've had doesn't make him good.
