And definetly not another quality player.

June 14, 200521 yr Maybe I misinterpreted what was said on BBTN, but I thought what they said was that "some people are even talking about trading Soriano" (or words to that effect), saying it in an incredulous or mocking tone, and being dismissive of whoever said it. I don't think they were suggesting the front office or ownership was actively trying to trade the guy, but rather (I suspect) some others in the media.

June 14, 200521 yr I'm not saying Soriano is the answer but I have been wondering about this recently since the team has shown offensive inconsistency over the last year and a half: WIll there come a point where the Marlins decide to lower the defense a bit and instead bulk up the offense? For example, Miguel Tejada is a capable SS for the O's but does not make the Sea Bass plays. However, his lack of defense might cost an extra run a night, but Tejada knocks in more runs than he lets in and consistently makes up for it. OK, that's metaphorically speaking, but getting back to the question: Do the Marlins reach a point down the road where the defense slips a little in favor of putting hitters in the line-up that can mash the ball game in / game out like a Rangers style offense where everyone can hit? Great pitching, great hitting, ok defense? Is it worth a great defense when the offense can't come through consistently? Just some late night, brain is fried posting is all...

June 14, 200521 yr second baseman for our team must be defensive first. Soriano is a great player but wouldnt be the answer for us. We couldnt Afford his contact, we couldnt play him anywhere. We couldnt afford to Loan him out for 1 years time. He is a free agent after this year. Look for him on the cubs or some other big market team perhaps even the stinking stup$d mets. We arent getting someone as high profile as him sorry. Zito might be in the range but I doubt it folks. We arent the yankees or a big market team. We get small little additions that make the difference. What is next get Mike Sweeney to put into our outfield? How about we trade for Vlad, I am sure the angels would trade him for mota and valdez (hint this was sarcasm :winks: )
