Posted June 24, 200519 yr Slumping Encarnacion at a loss on bench By Juan C. Rodriguez Staff Writer Posted June 23 2005 ATLANTA ? Juan Encarnacion has three hits in his past 24 at-bats and two RBI since June 5. That doesn't make sitting any easier. Wednesday marked the third consecutive game Encarnacion wasn't in the starting lineup. Manager Jack McKeon played Jeff Conine, who had two hits in each of his past two games. Conine made his fourth straight start and third in place of Encarnacion. "We got [Conine] in there and he's hitting, so it's tough to take him out," McKeon said. "He's done a pretty good job coming off the bench. Juan has been struggling a little bit. Maybe a few days will be a tonic for him. ... Both of them can share a lot and contribute." Asked whether the break could help in the long run, Encarnacion said: "How does that help? For what? Numerically, I had three or four bad games like anybody else. What can I say? Those are things you can't control. You just have to wait and be ready for whatever." That whatever includes a trade. Encarnacion is aware the Braves and Nationals have asked about him. He is unsure why the Marlins have resisted if they are willing to sit him three games in a row. "If they're going to do something, I hope they do it quickly so they don't waste my time not playing, if it's with me or whoever," he said. "They can send me to the worst team. Sitting down here, I'm not doing anything. "If you're talking about [production], I may be bad but I'm not the worst one here. I don't feel bad [at the plate]. Just a couple of bad days like anybody else. Highs and lows." Encarnacion is third on the team in RBI (39) behind Carlos Delgado (50) and Miguel Cabrera (45). He is the team's leading hitter with runners in scoring position (.355). Whatever happened to being a good teammate? A good sport? No wonder this team is in shambles, a bunch of selfish players protecting their egos at the first sign of conflict. First JP sulking after being pinch-hit for, now this. "Wasting my time"?? what a f*cking joke. If we could get a six-pack of Heineken for this clown I'd take it and run away laughing. Addition by subtraction as far as I'm concerned.
June 24, 200519 yr You know in the beginning of the season, he came out like a ball of fire. So now, what have you done for us lately? The man, when he wants to, is a great asset to the team with his defense and even has some pop with the bat. But when he doesn't care, it shows, and that is the last thing this team needs right now.

June 24, 200519 yr Author omg an opinionated ballplayer? How dare he? 823848[/snapback] Saying that the Marlins are "wasting his time" by not starting him is opinionated?? My, how times have changed. Don't know what sport you watch, but where I'm from it's a 25 man roster and all players contribute in different ways. Encarnacion is FAR from being a superstar, so to have the audacity and say something like this is not only arrogant but just simply SELFISH. Jeff Conine has been on the bench for two months now and while I'm sure he isn't jumping for joy about his role, he accepted it like the classy player he is. This jackass gets benched for THREE GAMES and is complaining to the press and essentially asking for a trade? I can't comprehend how anyone can try and justify that. I'm now a bigger Willingham fan than Ramp -- hopefully he hits 20 home runs and Encarnacion is shown the door within the next month.
June 24, 200519 yr Well were paying him too much money for the way he's playing, even though he's been playing better than we all expected him to play, but still, nevertheless, he's not worth the money. So even if he wouldn't whine, we would still get rid of him. Don't worry guys, just wait until the end of the season.
June 24, 200519 yr Author Also -- his "trade me to the worst team" comment makes me believe the only reason he gives a damn is because he wants a big payday this winter. He couldn't care less whether we win or lose, all he wants is to pad his personal stats so come free agency, he gets money he doesnt deserve. He can do that on Tampa Bay or Kansas City just as well as he can here. What a joke.

He dosent only want to pad his own stats but he plays defense as if he were made out of glass. They guy takes every precaution out there to make sure he dosent hurt his shoulder out there. Back in 2003 he would dive for alot of balls that he had a shot at now he just lets them fall in front of him.
June 24, 200519 yr Trade his *ss quickly to the Braves or Nationals...maybe he'll help the Fish just by not playing for them and driving another clubhouse crazy with his b*tching
June 24, 200519 yr He doesn't have much room to complain. He started swinging at sliders out of the zone again and has looked lost at the plate. Sure everyone has bad games, but he has to understand that there is a good replacement to get us through his slumps.
June 24, 200519 yr Players who complain about play time are annoying. Players who play crappy and complain about playing time don't belong on a competitor.
June 24, 200519 yr Since we've already seen this piece posted yesterday and a significant thread about it, not to mention Enc went 2-4 since this article was posted, what other reason except character assasination could there be for posting it again? To answer my own qestion, I guess it gives the Encarnacion-haters another opportunity to rehash old news and vent more of their misplaced poison.

I dont dislike him, and i think he can contribute to this team, but limiting the time of niner and enc is not IMO whats bets for the team.
June 24, 200519 yr Juan Encarnacion says he's fine with not playing - for now. But he also says that if he or Jeff Conine are going to be traded, he'd prefer it happen sooner or later. ''At this point, it's OK,'' Encarnacion said. ``It's cool so far. It's only been two or three days. There's nothing I can do about it. I just need to be ready to play.'' If a trade doesn't go down, Encarnacion's tune will change quickly. Source: Miami Herald I don't know about you guys but i think enc is awesome, the man's a badass player and all badasses have attitudes..this guy plays with heart and his defense is just amazing..If we do trade him then i wish him the best because he has contributed to our team this year.
June 24, 200519 yr I read that. He does have 9 homers and good RBI numbers but he needs to be more consistant. I expect him to be gone at the deadline.
June 24, 200519 yr We already have a thread on this article. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...showtopic=45050
