Marlins/O's Trade?

Featured Replies

How atrocious is our outfield if we trade Lowell??

Pierre, Enc, Bigbie/Conine??

I'd rather bank on Lowell playing like he has the first 90% of his career.

An extra outfielder, pitching prospect and ineffective reliever (and maybe a stinking starter or Loogy)

None fit the Marlins;' short or long term needs

I think it's a terrible trade even with Cabrera. The O's just don't have the talent. We are better off keeping Burnett and losing him for draft picks.

This deal is a garbage truck; we would be getting a slew of mediocre players for one good one. The objective is to consolidate talent in a few players and build around them, not take multiple mediocre parts. Not surprisingly, I feel the same about this potential trade as the Penny one last year.

No way- Cabrera has the talent to someday be better than AJ.

It's funny, I checked out the Orioleshangout.com message boards and they don't seem too crazy anout the deal for their side. I don't really know what to think of this proposed deal. I like getting Penn and Julio. I like ridding ourselves of Lowell's contract and moving Miguel to 3rd. I'm not thrilled about Bigbe or Kline. I'm not opposed to trading Burnett. He talent is out of this world, but i'm tired of watching him underachieve. It would sort of seem like a trade for next year, but at the same time, does anyone really see this team as it is making the playoffs?

Like the rest of you, i'd still prefer the rumored White Sox deal. Whatever happens, it does seem as though Burnett may have made his last start with the Marlins.

If this trade were true, then AJ's value has fallen markedly, and I don't believe that's the case, at to these levels. Not with two weeks left before he trade deadline.

I agree. I don't neccessarily think that his value has fallen as much as the fact he's unsigned after the season. I think that the O's have two things going for them in the Burnett chase. One is that they are one of the only interested teams willing to make the trade withouth extending Burnett's contract. And two, they seem willing to take Lowell and his $18 million off our hands.

If this trade happens Admin should definitely get compensation from the Orioleshangout.com webmaster, and perhaps be grand marshal of the parade they'll be having in Baltimore when Steve Kline and Sidney Ponson leave town.

The Twins are interested in Marlins 3B Mike Lowell, provided Florida eats part of his salary, and would part with right-hander Kyle Lohse, says the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

i don't know if anyone has seen this but would lohse be a good replacement for burnett assuming we would trade him.

i just think that if this deal its in the works we might work out a deal with another team for a hitter why? simple,

Mike lowell its making too much monet , trading money frees money to trade and sign for a good hitter i just think that im the marlins are willing to do this trade they have another trade on the line

:mischief2 :plain

I think that it's not so much that the Marlins are enamored with the return, but they are being forced by Burnett, whose wive and her family is from the area, into making a deal with the Orioles.

Thats a horrible trade.

We should hold on to AJ for atleast 1 more start, to see if other teams get involved.

WTF say hell no to sidney ponson, this guys sucks..Some orioles fans wanted to get leiter because they thought he was better than fatson..give me daniel cabrera instead of ponson and i'm chill

Assuming Burnett signed an extension, a better trade might be:

Burnett, Lowell, Reed for Chen (or Penn but I prefer Chen), Julio and Gibbons.

Gives us options for other trades, a better, platoonable bat in lefty Gibbons who would open up the field with his ability to hit to all fields and has HR power that Bigbie doesn't, a fifth starter although he's another lefty (a marketable pitcher who we could turn around and trade or send Vargas back down for more seasoning), and a reliever to take the some of the pressure off the kids in the pen.

I'll say that I'm not thrilled with this trade unless the Marlins can pry Jay Gibbons from the Orioles. Otherwise, it has the potential to be a total disaster from our end. AS for the trade as it is, the only good thing is that when Burnett and Lowell were placed on the trade market, I always felt that you have to deal them to the AL in order to prevent them from burning the Marlins by being in the same league. So, the good part is that they will be in the AL and hopefully the O's resign AJ and keep Lowell beyond this year.

The deal is no good if we dont get Cabrera in return... If we give up AJ...

WE NEED to get back a young, talented pitcher...and that would be Daniel Cabrera. I have seen him a couple of times and he looks solid. HE is HUGE... and he throws hard... a little wild at times... but that is something that can be controlled with the right coaching...

I also like the idea of unloading Lowell's contract and being able to better use the money next year.

I think if we move Migue to Third...then we can bring up Hermidia... I think he is ready to do some damage in the bigs.

We have to remember that although this year we have a terrific chance of making the WS...we also have to think long term....especially with the economics of our franchise. If we let go of AJ, we need to get a talented young pitcher that will be effective the rest of the season and be here for a couple of more years.

Here's my ordered preference:

Keep AJ

AJ to the Yankees for Pavano (with the money)

The White Sox thing

This Baltimore trade (yuck!)

Even getting Lowell off the books is not worth this move, the two compensatory picks have more present and future value to this franchise than this.

Oh, and just to again put my two cents in:

The Baltimore Sun ran a story today Link that looks eerily similar to the Herald's Story. So, knowing the way the Herald operates (and for that matter, baseball coverage in general down here), I highly doubt any validity of the O's deal being imminent. Kind of reminds me of the Delgado situation in the off season, and the Lowell ordeal around this time in '03.

I have a feeling tommorow when we wake up we'll have some new faces on the ball club

I would NOT NOT NOT NOT do this trade. I dont like it one big. I dont like Juilo. I dont like Bigibie. I dont like trading Lowell either. He will comne around.

This trade is CRAP.

grrrr

If we did this trade I'd expect more trades to be made in the future. We'd have alot of relievers, and I doubt we'd keep all of them
