October 10, 200520 yr I didn't start following baseball until the Marlins came around. I used to have that inaugural ball set with the faces of Sheffield, Carr, and 3 others that I can't remember on them but my little brother used them to play and smeared all the faces...I wish I still had that set. (I think it was a gas station giveaway of some sort)

I used to have that inaugural ball set with the faces of Sheffield, Carr, and 3 others that I can't remember on them but my little brother used them to play and smeared all the faces...I wish I still had that set. (I think it was a gas station giveaway of some sort) I still have that set. It was Chuck Carr, Dave Magaden , Benito Santiago and others from the first year. No Sheffield though.
October 10, 200520 yr Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers... I have lived by each of these teams and have attended many games. The Rangers are still my favorite AL team. I was raised as a Cubs fan, and I root for them still, but not like when I was a kid. As for also liking the White Sox, my Dad took me to see both Chicago teams when I was a kid. I never got into the whole rivalry thing. I always liked the Big Hurt.
October 11, 200520 yr cleveland Indians....My whole family is from Cleveland and I still feel a little piece of my heart will always be with them. All my grandfather wanted to see was the Indians win the series once more before he passed. He went to the grave cussing Jose Mesa and Charles Nagy.
October 11, 200520 yr I was and still am a fan of all Chicago sports teams... Despite the fact that I grew up watching Chi-Town sports I for some reason became hooked on the Marlins in '93 when I was down there visiting my grandparents and went to a couple of games...
October 12, 200520 yr As much as I hate to be associated with anything Passion of the Cooch or Peter Gammons, the Boston Red Sox. They still remain one of my favorite sports teams.
October 12, 200520 yr Reds. My first very early baseball memories are of Riverfront Stadium & the Big Red Machine. Doesn't get much better than that.
October 12, 200520 yr DA YANKEES!!! I grew up watching the Yankees. My parents defected from Cuba and lived in NYC for 14 years before moving down. The Yankees were the team in Cuba that were broadcasted the most, so I was raised with it. I watched the Yanks when they were not the best of teams and liked them then. It's sad that we feel the need to defend our position so people don't throw bandwagon accusations at us. What is the wide world of sports coming to?
October 13, 200520 yr I'm to young to have really followed any team seriously, though I was held by Tony Pena when I was 2 at an event in a Pittsburgh McDonald's, so I guess the Pirates, lol.
October 14, 200520 yr Jerry Kossman, Tom Seaver, Wayne Garrett, Jerry Grotti, Rusty Staub the Mets! but like others...since the Marlins I haven't looked back
October 14, 200520 yr New York Yankees Don Mattingly Dave Winfield Ricky Henderson steve sax Reggie jackson Thurmon Munson Willie Randolph Cincinnati Reds Johnny Bench Pete Rose George Foster The Nasty Boys Ken Griffey Chris Sabo Tom Browning Danny Jackson Frank Robinson
October 14, 200520 yr Born in Queens and raised on L.I.....Mets. In the 80s when I was a kid I used to cry they lost so much. When the Marlins were announced I dropped the Mets immediately. Some say how can a true fan drop their team...well, this was home and the Marlins were new. I felt the same way for the Heat and Panthers. They were my baby from day 1. It took a lot longer to root for the Phins. Favorite Mets: Joel Youngblood, Mookie Wilson and Dwight Gooden. Don't ask me why but I never liked Steve Henderson or Pete Falcone.
October 14, 200520 yr I was born in Philly and lived there until the summer after 2nd grade (I'm 36 now). Of course it was traumatic to move away from my friends and my life as I knew it. So I kept following my hometown teams. The Phillies, the Eagles, the Sixer and the Flyers (though I wasn't a big fan of B-Ball and Hockey at the time). I was triumphant when the fightin' Phils won in 1980. And I cried when the Eagles lost the Superbowl to the Raiders. I still hate Jim Plunkett. In 1993 I went to Toronto and was there when Joe Carter hit the walk-off homer to win the World Series and spoil a magical Phillies season. The first Miami team I really felt passionate about was the Heat. That's because pro b-ball was really new to me. I was rooting for the Marlins in 97 and was happy they won it all but I renounced baseball after the dismantling. Between 2000 and 2002 my appreciation for baseball as a sport increased dramatically. It was always 2nd behind football for me but that changed. When Loria took over the team I decided to give the Marlins a second chance. I decided that baseball might not be around for long so I might as well enjoy it while I could. If the Marlins were going to leave it wasn't going to be because of me. Besides I liked some of the moves Beinfest made. No, I didn't know Dontrelle was going to be our best player but I liked that we unloaded the dead wood contracts of Preston Wilson and Charles Johnson. So I bought season tickets before the 2003 season. Man what fun that was.
October 15, 200520 yr Sorry guys. I wasn't in this country before 1994. I rooted for Industriales then, which can be considered your Cuban version of the Braves. They would win a lot of games during the regular season and turn "yellow" right at the end. And also the Yankees. My grandfather used to tell me stories about the Yankees before 1959. Imagine that! When I first went to a Marlins game was because Osvaldo Fernandez (a Cuban pitcher who defected around the same time I left) was pitching for the Giants against the Marlins. That was a 1996. The Giants ended up winning that game and I ended up infatuated with the Marlins ("those losers" I used to call them and still do sometimes). Then 1997 happened and I was hooked! That's it! Hey don't hate on my Industriales cubano . My signature speaks for the winningest team in Cuban baseball history.
October 15, 200520 yr Grew up a Mets fan in the sixties and early seventies. Went to many games at Shea(a dump then...a dump now, but good fried chicken in right field) with my Dad. We either used to sit in nice infield box seats, for $4...or in those days you could buy seats in the press box...for $2.50. Sit under cover, just a bit beyond first or third base, with a table in front like the sportswriters had for their typewriters. Great memories. Was at Nolan Ryan's and Jerry Koosman's first game at Shea. The Koosman game was one of the most memorable. A rookie, in the home opener, he started the game by loading the bases with no outs against the strong San Francisco Giants. Then proceeded to strike out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and Jim Ray Hart. Wasn't much of a fan of any team from 1975-1993. Been a Marlins fan since then.
