December 7, 200520 yr Willis to devil rays for Kazmir, Young, Gomes and Hamels? I'll do it also but very unrealistic. The most realistic trade that I can think of that I will do is Florida Marlins: Justin Verlander Joel Zumaya and another prospect Top prospect as well Detroit Tigers: Dontrelle Willis Gammons mentioned today that Javy Vazquez vetoed a deal that would have sent him to the Tigers for Joel Zumaya and Curtis Granderson. If they will pay that much for Vazquez we can surely get both Verlander and Zumaya and something else.
December 7, 200520 yr You aren't goin to like my new name. :lol :lol :lol We are all waiting in sweaty anticipation. I'm actually waiting...I need ideas for when I change mine :whistle
December 7, 200520 yr I've never heard of any of these prospects, but they'd all have to be amazing for a trade to be worth it. One Dontrelle is probably worth the Top 3 prospects in all of the minors. You take those 3 guys--one probably doesn't amount to much of anything, one probably becomes a very good everyday player, and one probably becomes an All-Star. Do any of them reach the level of Dontrelle? Probably not. Is it worth it? I'd still say no. Someone like Dontrelle doesn't come along very often, and when he does, you don't trade him until you have no choice...because you will almost never get equivalent value for him. Not to mention trading Dontrelle will kill off the rest of the Marlins fans, except for those who just complete masochists. When Dontrelle goes, I go.

December 7, 200520 yr They won't trade them... they still have control over both of them for a few years. And i'm sure that they can afford them... I mean they got ride of everyone else so i'm sure Loria can afford some money on the two guys that are definatly going to be consistent all-stars.

If Dontrelle have a career ending injury (God forbid), would you be done with the Marlins? If, for example, Jeffery Loria took an axe to him? Yes. If it were something out of the Marlins control? My first instinct was to say no, but seriously, at this point, Dontrelle is the only reason I'm holding on as a Marlins fan. So, actually, to answer your question, yeah.

December 7, 200520 yr If for some reason this more than just BBTN blowing smoke (which I sincerely doubt), the Marlins can just get up and leave Miami now because they'll be booing them everyday at the stadium if anyone even shows up.
December 8, 200520 yr It came from the mouth of Steve Phillips. Nuff said. Gammons did add, "But he isn't a free agent for another 4 years!" Thats why his a sportcaster and not a GM!

December 8, 200520 yr i actually agree w/ this. They should trade Willis. It will be close to pointless keeping him for another year since they wont have the cash to keep him past '06 and he really won't be making a difference next year seeing as we won't be competitive. If they are wanting to "load up on young talent" then Willis is the guy you trade. His value has never been higher and he is easily a 1,2 starter on any rotation in the bigs.
December 8, 200520 yr They won't have the cash to keep him past 2006? Why? Because they have so many other large contracts. By the time he makes real big money, the Marlins will hopefully have a home. They aren't trading him. You're just suggesting this to make your own life more miserable.

December 8, 200520 yr If the current firesale isnt evidence enough that the owner is attempting to alienate the fan base to make it easier to move , trading Willis or Cabby would confirm it , and it also confirm Loria is the poorest owner in sports and is an idiot I dont discount it happening though because will by himself will acount for 20-25 percent of our payroll think of the saving for Loria if he trades him for another guy making 300K
December 8, 200520 yr Selig would never approve it, but I could almost envision a deal in which we traded Willis and Cabrerra to the Yankees, who in turn would build us a stadium. Better yet, get them to give us the pieces of Yankee Stadium when they replace it, and we'll move it down here like they did when they moved London Bridge to Arizona. Plop it down on a lot in Boca, and season ticket sales would skyrocket. Probably never happen, I'm just trying to think outside the box. :mischief2
December 8, 200520 yr Marlins SHOULD trade Dontrelle Willis Miguel Cabrera COULD be on the trade block c'mon guys. I'm still waiting for something concrete I can't tell...is that Ugga or Amezaga at 2B?

They dont need the Yankees money. They need to keep Willis to sell tickets and keep people happy or at least content
