December 25, 200520 yr The Marlins have had two future Hall of Famers don their uniforms for single seasons since 2003... So which player, Ivan Rodriguez or Carlos Delgado, made a bigger impact on the Fish?? Pudge may have provided the leadership and command of young pitching that led us to a championship in 2003, but Carlos only cost us $1 million more and provided us with Yusmeiro Petit and Mike Jacobs. Hhhhmmmm....
December 25, 200520 yr Pudge, hands down. If Yusmeiro and Jacobs play a vital role in bringing another Championship to the Marlins somewhere down the line, than you can rethink it than, maybe. But for now, definitely Pudge, and it aint even close
December 25, 200520 yr Author I think its unfair to say Pudge was totally better because the team he was on was better... Carlos did his part in his team's quest for a championship

Carlos did his part in his team's quest for a championship Pudge team was not better... The 2005 Marlins on paper were the best team in the NL at the begining of the season and the 2003 team was nowhere near that...

December 25, 200520 yr this is a tough one pudge hit .297/.369/.474 with 16 homers and 85 ribs and 10 steals while delgado hit .301/.399/.582 with 33 homers and 115 rbis pudge played on a team that might not have been better on paper but played better...he also comanded the pitching staff and who could forget the playoffs with the play(s) at the plate with the giants delgado was 1/2 the offense on a team that under achieved last year...he clearly had the better stats and imagine how much better his stats would have been if the top of the order hit and the lowell and lo duca actually protected him...he also got us to top prospects in return... my vote is for delgado and the person who questions delgado as a future hall of famer...369 homers and counting and 9 years with 30 plus...if he isnt a hall of famer yet...give him a couple years at shea and he will be
December 25, 200520 yr Pudge = WS... common, he had those hits the other way in the postseason that kept up going like 3 or 4 times
December 25, 200520 yr Pudge all the way. His batting average with RISP was unreal. It seemed like Pudge was knocking in JP or Luis every 3rd inning. Delgado can be a HOF if he continues to rip the ball the way he does. I think he needs to reach 500 homers to have a chance though.
December 25, 200520 yr World Series > Missing playoffs and finishing only 4 games over .500 Delgado isn't a lock for the hall of fame unless he wins a WS or reaches a MAJOR milestone.
December 25, 200520 yr First of all, Delgado's not a hall of famer. Secondly, it's unfair to evaluate Delgado by using "he brought us Petit and Jacobs." Delgado performed better than Pudge. Pudge's team overachieved, Pudge was credited with being a big reason for that. The team is greater than the individual, and winning is more important than individual statistics. I'm going to go with Pudge, but it's tough...in terms of simply the player, Delgado was more than worth his paycheck.
December 25, 200520 yr I dont even think its an issue, to compare what Pudge did for the team in 03' both offensively and behind the plate, to what Delgado accomplished, is completely ridiculous.
December 25, 200520 yr Stat wise Delgado, but the question is who made a bigger impact that is Pudge hands down.
December 26, 200520 yr Delgado's stats and presence in the lineup are unquestioned. But quite a few people die every year having not seen their favorite team ever win a World Series. Pudge wins this.
December 26, 200520 yr Delgado is a hall of famer? Well said......Pudge is a hall of famer and a GREAT Leader. Delgado is maybe a 5th ballot haller who's biggest weakness (other than his inability to pick balls out of the dirt) is his inability to LEAD a team. He should have stepped up and squashed that Cabrera/Burnett soap opera before it got out of hand. Look...I like Delgado....he's one of like 15 players EVER to hit four dongs in one game. I just wish he could have cracked the whip a little late in the season last year......We might have had a shot.

He did lead the team, just the team didnt follow/respond. Delgado and Cabs were carrying the marlins on its back and the top two guys didnt get on base much especially pierre, then Lowell couldnt protect Cabs or Delgado either. back on topic, pudge wins this one, his clutch, his leadership, and his pride makes him a true player.

Your talking about stats. Im talking about leading the team by taking charge of the clubhouse. That clubhouse was out of control the second half of the season. Who should have stepped up? Vargas? Cabrera? Hermida?....No...Delgado. :banghead
December 26, 200520 yr Pudge, no question. without his leadership and clutch hitting we dont win it all
