its one of the headlines on mlb.com, i'm pretty sure it just got posted moments ago....plus the marlins have it under their list of transactions on their own page

as far as Uggla, I'm guessing if he was completely bombing so far in ST, then the Marlins would have made it a point to keep Pokey right? So basically, can we agree that Uggla is showing promise and the Fish are committing to him with this move?

I think the two reasons he got cut were......1) Excuse wasn't legit. 2) This move saves the Marlins 450,000 more bucks by letting Andino or Amezaga making the team.....don't underestimate the cheap factor here.

I don't think it has anything to do with Uggla.

I don't think $$$ had anything to do with the decision. They have already been quoted as saying they have surpassed what they expected to cut. I think they'll spend $$$ before the season starts.

The rookie second baseman suddenly has a clearer path to a starting job with Reese still not in contact with the Marlins after missing his third consecutive day. Uggla, who turns 26 on Saturday, started at second base against the Cardinals, and the job appears his to lose.

"Danny was going to get most of the playing time anyway,'' manager Joe Girardi said. "He was ready to be the everyday second baseman.''

2 for 10 with two singles.......and he's the starter already......wow.

So if they allowed the 2 competitors (Amezaga or Andino) to get the job it would be because they are 'cheap' but then again choosing Uggla is bad too in your mind so who would you have get the job?

Good riddance. I'm sorry for Pokey if he is having personal problems, but you still have to act like a professional. One 5 minutes phone call would have been a sufficient gesture of good faith. Beinfest and the Marlins would not have told Pokey he HAS to stay in camp if he is having personal problems. Whatever. See ya guy!

I hope this opens the door to trading for some sort of MI. Hanley, Uggla, and Amezaga is not a good 1-2-3 depth chart. Not that adding Pokey to that is good either, but how about somebody who played a little bit in the majors last year?

Hmm. Risky. Not only because of Uggla, but also because our lack of major league ready shortstops. I see the club adding one or more players as other teams make Opening Day cuts anyway.

They may pay to plug, but I don't see them adding substantial salary.

I mentioned in another thread ("Notes on Today's Game") that Tony Graffanino is being made available by the Red Sox in an effort to allow him the opportunity to get him additional playing time elsewhere. The guy plays multiple positions and played very well last year. Certainly the equal of what Pokey was going to bring to the table.

This sucks. I am surprised that many people here arent taking this worse. Your new starting second baseman for your Florida Marlins is................Ugggghhh

That's because Reese is proven Ugggghhh.

Two words- crack

crack is one word!

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Graffanino would be a TREMENDOUS upgrade to Pokey Reese. .309/.366/.425 :)

He makes just over $2 mil though and I don't see the Marlins (1) giving the Red Sox a good prospect for a 2B they won't keep and (2) paying whatever salary Boston doesn't cover.

I see him in St. Louis or NYM. Both are perfect fits, and should trade for him immediatly.

what in the world would give you the idea that they would add someone anyway? The biggest veterans we have aside from lenny willis cabrera bump and olivo are mike jacobs with 110 big league at bats. get real. we went from having a middle tha tplayed over 700 games together to having a middle thts played less than 10 games total in the show. wake up. this season is going to blow.

The only thing good about it is that no matter how good or bad we are theres nothing like going out to the park and seeing 9 guys play with your teams name on the front of their jersey, regardless of whats on the back
