What role would German or Wellemyer have had on this team now? The closer is Borowski. The setup men for the 7th and 8th are Kensing, Messenger and Martinez. The LH specialist is Tankersly. Where would German and Welly pitch?
June 2, 200620 yr Author Wellemyer has good stuff but has got to learn than if you go down 2-0 on every batter, ya dead unless your name is Pedro or Peavy, etc. Then again, they don't get down 2-0 on every batter

June 3, 200620 yr Ridiculous, German was starting too look promising, especially after last year and HE, NOT Herges leaves. Incredible. What purpose does Herges serve? The incase-we-are-not-losing-badly-enough- releif pitcher? Mitre won't be back for a while, he's on the 60-day DL. good, he is just wasting space on the rotation. I thought he might do good but after that first outing in Houston, he could not pick himself up :thumbdown It's like last year for him, he beat Halladay and then threw a CGSO at us @ Wrigley and then he becomes responisble for every Cubs loss after that. :banghead
June 3, 200620 yr It's really inconsequential IMO. German threw too many walks. Herges isn't good either but I doubt you'll see him in big situations much anymore. Kensing, Messenger, Petit, Martinez, Borowski, Tankersley, all those guys should be ahead of Herges.

Seriously why is Herges on the roster? He has to be bribing someone, to still be on the team.
June 3, 200620 yr you know whats interesting about Matt Herges? At first I would get furious whenever he showed up...I would moan and complain and so would Dolphin Stadium...when he appeared in Saturday's game against the Mets, my whole section went "oh man, there goes the game"... BUT NOW....I see Matt Herges and I smile! I start to chuckle in joy! Why? Instead of wasting my energy getting mad...I smile because I realize that if Matt Herges pitched to me, I could probably get a few good big league hits, probably a few RBI, maybe a homer or two...he's that bad folks...
June 3, 200620 yr Welly had 2 bad outings but I thought otherwise he pitched well enough to be on this team. As for German I would have hoped to have him rehab some more or used some kind of loophole to keep for the time being. I agree with most about Herges and for as much as they're using Petit maybe sent him down and kept Welly. Overall I'm glad to see the Tank up no matter who was lost.
