Game 3 Thoughts

Jim Shields

Guy has been a stud dating back to the 2nd half of last season. Dirty changeup kept us off balance all game. You could almost say this guy is a legit ace. Thank god that we got to him in the 7th or he would've been out there for the 8th. Rays pen blows another one.

Uggla

Continues his hot month. Three hits in the game including a double. Batting 293 with 3HR, 8RBI, 951OPS.

Cabrera

Came through in his last two AB when we needed it the most.

Hermida

Clutch double after he worked the count full. Budding. Superstar.

and the player of the game....Sergio Mitre

Cant say enough about this guy's performance since returning from injury. He's been the ace of this team...not doubt. If the sinker is on it's just groundballs everywhere

The Bullpen

The biggest surprise this year continues to be the good work from the bullpen.

is that 5 of 6 now?

Awesome, awesome, awesome series! Mitre is pitching as well as anybody in baseball right now and it's nice to see the offense get him the win.

Kevin Gregg has been wonderful.

It was obviously a lackluster offseason.. but you can't say enough about what Beinfest did with the limited resources. Lidnstrom, Owens, Gregg, Boone have all been great additions.

Shamrock, its James Shields. Just a heads up. And that guy has one of the best changes I've ever seen out of a second year starter. He deserves MUCH MUCH better than what that bullpen has been providing him with.

I think something that should be pointed out is Ramirez hitting 3rd. He is batting a low 200 with RISP and under 200 with runners on period. Maybe Fredi should re-think some things.

Nice writeup Sham... I haven't seen 1 min of this 3 game set (up in madison, wi for bros graduation)... Love how well Mitre is pitching.

I want to get excited, but then I think we just swept the Devil Rays.....

oh well.... :woohoo

Yes, the Devil Rays looked meh in this series, but they did come in with a 4 game win streak and the Fish rolled them in the first two games and had a nice comeback today. It's beating teams like the D-Rays that will keep this team in the race at the end of the year. I think the best part of this 6 game run was the continued good work from the starting rotation. Also, Hermida has been huge...as has been Uggla and Gregg. Keep up it up against the Phils and Mets!

Jim is short for James but then again who really cares right? :thumbup

Great series! We did what we were supposed to. We might have swept the Rays but we are supposed to sweep teams worse then us.

Now let's get at those fightin Phillies!!!

I don't think those stats tell the whole story. First, they haven't updated the splits since Friday. Second, most of the year he was hitting in front of a struggling Dan Uggla. Combine that with an aggressive hitter and you can explain a .176 batting average with an OBP of .311 with runners on in just 33 AB. In those 43 PAs he's walked 10 times while K'ing 13. I think that's a legitimate indicator of being pitched around (and him trying to make things happen often times).

Can't mess with a good thing when the team is doing so well with Hanley at 3.

The kid is a great hitter but the fact is he has stunk with RISP and I see no need to make creative excuses for him and to somehow put the blame on Uggla is a head scratcher.

Especially since Uggla has been in the top five or six in the NL in extra basehits all seasons. BTW, if Uggla has ten more hits in eight weeks of baseball he's hitting .305+. As bad as he's looked at times he slowly learning to quiet his bat and the results are starting to show. Ramirez is destined to be a productive RISP hitter, but not all things happen over night.

After Hanley put the #3 spot, batting avg & the number of multi-hits dropping out.

He had a couple of hits in single game, but he had many LOB.

What do you think about this situation?

Is it kinda effect of "cleanup spot trainning"? :mischief2

I love Miggy's leadership.

After Dukes' BS jaw-session, Miggy comes in, and essentially says you have a problem with him, you have a problem with me.

Awesome stuff.

He really said that?
