I'll give you credit, in that it takes a lot of work (even on this team) to make Matt Treanor look cool, particularly cool enough to be a starter.

Not nearly as hard as you would think...

Awesome posting thanks! What ever happen with those that described Tranor as a horrible backup catcher?

He still isn't that good of a catcher. And the fact that people think he should be starting has more to do with how they feel about Olivo than really how well Treanor has done in his maybe 100 ABs this season.

Matt Treanor isnt that great of a catcher, but ive liked him more than Olivo pretty much all season long and i like that he plays hard. Plus hes not bad of a hitter.

Hell yea i want him starting and i wouldnt mind him staying on this team as the backup while the fish dump olivo and get someone else, till then, Start Treanor.

You ride who is performing. Treanor is. Olivo is not.

This following an 0-2 night.

An 0-2 night where he did three things that Olivo can't. He walked, made a great defensive play, and caught.

The exaggeration that goes against a player certain posters don't like is hilarious stuff.

So Olivo makes that play at the plate?

Olivo has made plenty of good plays at the plate when he has a decent throw to work with, and acting like he is incapable of getting the ball and turning and tagging a runner or blockin the plate well when he has the ball can only suggest that you haven't been watching him play. He'll drop the ball sometimes, but so has Treanor and every other catcher. There are two legit knocks on Olivo - he has too many passed balls (though that's not entirely on him IMO) and he swings at everything. Aside from that, particularly defense wise, I don't think most of the criticism is warranted. The guy throws well, gets out of the box to make plays well, and if he has the ball in time, will block the plate and take one for the team or make the tag.

You're right, it is

I think Jeremy's ego was boosted by his offensive play on the road and was just trying to make a name for himself by getting on the Top Ten Plays. Big mistake on his part.

What's impressive about Treanor this season is that he's not only hitting .294, but his on-base is an impressive .376 and his OPS is a very solid .780. Honestly, you have to give him a shot. No idea if it will work out or fail worse than Ramon Castro... But he needs a shot.

P.S. - In 1,706 career AB's, Olivo has walked 66 times. In 455 career AB's, Treanor has walked 49 times.

If Treanor were overexposed as our starting catcher, I have no doubt he would start looking more like the Treanor of old at the plate. He has been a good backup catcher this season. If he can keep doing what he's been doing, leave him where he is. I have no problem with that.

Treanor has always been a good to very good catcher.

Pitchers love throwing to him, he calls a great game and is a really good defensive catcher. His arm is probably the only negative on him defensively, but that may not be accurate on my part.

The thing that has always prevented him from playing more is his bat. Simple as that.

And his bat is the reason people are calling out for a change. The reason Olivo DOES play is because of his bat, and that hasbeen horrible.
