MIAMI – The Florida Marlins today named Mark Wiley their pitching coach,

completing the coaching staff for the 2008 season. The announcement was

made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Admin Beinfest.

“Mark [Wiley] is an accomplished pitching coach, and we are excited to have

him back with the Marlins organization, Beinfest said. “He will be an

important part of our young pitchers’ development and success at the Major

League level.

Wiley, 58, returns to the Marlins after two seasons as Special Assistant

for Baseball Operations with the Colorado Rockies. He served as Florida’s

pitching coach in 2005. The upcoming season will be Wiley’s 39th in

professional baseball, and his 16th as a pitching coach at the Major League

level. In addition to his last stint with the Marlins, he has served as

pitching coach for the Orioles, Indians and Royals.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez’s coaching staff for the upcoming season is set:

Carlos Tosca (bench coach), Mark Wiley (pitching coach), Jim Presley

(hitting coach), Bo Porter (third base/outfield coach), Andy Fox (first

base/infield coach), Steve Foster (bullpen coach), Pierre Arsenault

(bullpen coordinator).

HELL yes.

I approve

Can someone refresh my memory? I forgot why he was let go in the first place, was it because Giradi left and Fredi wanted his own guy?

I believe the manager is allowed to choose his staff. Girardi wanted Kranitz instead of Wiley. Welcome back, Mark!

Sweet Sassy Molassey!

I could be dead wrong but weren't the two a**hole pitchers (Beckett and Burnett) having conflicts with Wiley (as they did with Rosenthal)?

Beckett adored Wiley.

The day Girardi was hired, Beckett called Girardi to say that he thought Wiley should be retained.

I don't remember that phone call but I wouldn't doubt it. The entire FO wanted Wiley back along with the pitching staff. Joe wanted his guy. It was Joe's staff and therefore Joe's final decision.

Beckett was never really a jerk on the team. Unlike AJ, Josh was coachable and was actually becoming the pitcher we see today. May have been a few problems in the earlier days (trying to get a hit turned into an error comes to mind) but he settlled down and became a vital and loved player on the team. Maybe a bit of an attitude at times. But nothing like AJ. Of course I may be a bit prejudiced as he was always my fav pitcher on the team during his tenure After he stopped looking at the radar postings after every pitch.

Anyway... Welcome back Coyote. That's my Wish #1 fulfilled. Now onto Wish #2...Get Salty.
