Hollyberry
So, who here thinks that Nolasco should go back to the pen? He looked so much better coming out of the pen. If this did happen we have another hole in our rotation - can't win.

Erick
Stay as a starter. Develop a changeup, somehow. His problem is left-handed hitters. He's fine against righties. Not too many teams have great lefties like the Braves have (Chipper, Tex, McCann, etc.)  Also, I don't think we have too many other options, at this point. geemoney
I love these type of threads after a bad start. He's started two games. Leave him.

Tee Ball Bunt Machine
Ricky can pitch, he's just having the almost the same problem as Olsen last year - not the anger management or run-ins with police - but consistency. Rich and Tommy mentioned it early that he wasn't maintaining any sort of consistent pace on the mound like Olsen and Hendrickson the last two nights. Wiley needs to really work on that with him, because like we saw very few times tonight and during Ricky's relief appearances, he can pitch and he can get batters out. costabear
why not give Chris Volstad or Gaby Hernandez a shot. Maybe catch lightning in a bottle with one of them.
Erick
Wouldn't we have an extra year of arbitration if we wait 2 more months with Volstad? And plus, is there a point right now? He's doing well in the minors. Let him continue to build confidence, and let him develop. Andrew Miller should be there with him doing the same. No need to rush all of these guys. Nolasco is not that bad.

Tee Ball Bunt Machine
I think he gets one more shot LOL, and then what? The guy's arm has died in the 5th inning twice. In both starts he had limited the opposition to 3 runs before that, which really ain't that bad. He's just not being aggressive enough and not throwing enough strikes early, and then throwing really bad strikes once behind in the count. Honestly, I'm not sure how much more Ricky would get out of working in the minors other than maybe just building up more endurance. He needs to work it out at this level and throw strikes to good hitters who will take pitches out of the zone and work the count. No sense in having him make a bunch of minor leaguers chase his curveball.
Tee Ball Bunt Machine
I miss Josh Beckett and Brad Penny. I've missed Penny since the LoDuca trade. To have a rotation like we did in 04, if only we could have kept it and not lost Pudge, or gotten something better to catch than Ramon Castro and Mike Redmond. Tee Ball Bunt Machine
I've posted too much on this thread already, but I missed one more point about this performance. Our offense got shut out, so you can't put this completely on Nolasco. He was up against the wall vs Smoltz and pitching to a very good offense. It's not inconceivable that Ricky might have had a mind to pitch better if he had at least some run support, but again, I can hardly fault people for not hitting well against Smoltz. Dr Beinfest
I say back to the pen, until he can find a way against those left handed hitters.
IrishHarrington
Nolasco shold remain the rotation , we have no viable replacements and if he reverts back to 2006 form we have a quality pitcher who at the least most night will give you 6 innings and keep you in the game . Admin
It is a stretch to say that Nolasco will be a 5th starter. Keep him in the pen where he belongs. Tonight was a complete disaster. We have enough talent in the minors to fill future rotation spots. Throw him in the pen and see if he can out perform Lee Gardner.
LordMagnus
I think he gets one more shot LOL, and then what? There's plenty of options with our team and farm system. Nolasco is okay, but he's likely to be an odd man out over the coming years when the younger, more talented guys mature. I would be surprised if he were with the team next year.
Sirspud
I was never sold on Nolasco, not even in 2006 when he pitched pretty well. He just doesn't seem to have the make-up of a starter in this league and he really hasn't even looked at all that solid since 2006 either. With that said, I don't really know if we yank him out of the rotation unless we're willing to bring Volstad up.

Show me Waechter, please.
