Jorge Cantu and Jose Castillo

Because Cantu is the fking man and he proved all you hatas wrong

That essentially would be my feeling. Cantu keeps this up and (depending on the criteria for the award which I'm not bother to look up right now) and he has to considered for Comeback Player of the Year. He's on track to hit 30 homeruns and drive in almost 100 this season, which by almost any criteria is a helluva year for anyone nevermind a guy virtually forgotten by the game.

He DID have a rather rough start to the season. And his defense has been better lately. The fact that most of his errors came on the throw was a bit odd. Its pretty lame to bump threads where someone makes a statement at one point in time. People are allowed to change their minds or be proven wrong, no need to rub it in someone's face like this were high school. No doubt everyone is pleased with Cantu, regardless of their initial position on the issue. Considering he was out of baseball, its was pretty reasonable to be skeptical of Cantu. Chance players do not usually work out, but this one is. Good for him. But this thread sets a bad precedence for the future. We might as well bump 100 threads where people were wrong about something.

Cantu has no doubt been the best guy in the league signed on a minor league contract this spring.

i love that this thread got bumped...cantu is having a fine year and anyone who doubted him needs to have it rubbed in their face a little bit

I'll admit I doubted him at the beginning of the year, and he's making me eat a lot of crow.

and i bet it tastes damn delicious too! :thumbup

I never saw you singing his praises.

Im a pessimist, I only post about the Marlins when I am pissed off.

That so far Castillo is above average defensively and average offensively while Cantu is average defensively and above average offensively. Production wise, they are basically identical.

Alernatively, it means this was a stupid topic.

Agreed.

Eh, it's alright. I'd much rather have a Big Mac (lame pun, I know) to go along with it.

Posters like you 2 don't deserve to have it rubbed in your faces. It's those that did all the name calling at the start and now are conspicuously quiet about it that should be forced to endure the criticism.

I didn't find it odd at all. It's pretty much what was expected, IMO. He has the reflexes and athleticism to get to balls. But planting, the throwing motion accross the field, and being accomplished in a split second to get the runner (not rushing before the first two are completed) is the part that good 3B need to work on. Couple that with a below average defensive 1B and there can be problems. If the ball hits the 1B in the glove but he has to reach for it at all then the error most likely goes to the thrower. Not saying that was always the problem because Cantu really let a few sail away on him.
