June 9, 200818 yr I just heard on 790 that he threw 65 pitches in a game. ( not sure if it was an extended spring training or something else) he pitched 5 innings 5 hits 1 bb and 1 er. Did anyone else hear about this? With him pitching already, when wil he be ready? Late July early August?
June 9, 200818 yr love JJ great pitcher na hes right on schedule they expect him back august september they didnt sit him out like liriano
June 9, 200818 yr Here's another source on the JJ outing: Great news from Jupiter today where right-hander Josh Johnson pitched five innings in a Gulf Coast League game against the Cardinals. Johnson allowed one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts. He threw 60 pitches. He?ll start again in five days. Johnson underwent reconstructive elbow surgery on Aug. 3. The fact that he is pitching now means he is slightly ahead of schedule for a comeback from the surgery. But Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez wouldn?t speculate as to whether Johnson could join the Marlins some time after the All-Star break, whether in August or September. Gonzalez did say that JJ would start for the Marlins once he returns and not pitch out of the bullpen. Source: Joe Capozzi, PB Post http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/content...n_pitching.html

June 9, 200818 yr Those who think the Marlins are not going to last may want to pay attention to Ryan Tucker?s performance Sunday ? five innings, two hits and one run. Tucker, who was jolted out of Double A Carolina and into his first big league start, won?t save the season for the Fish, but his addition is going to help. The man who might just save this season is Josh Johnson, because if JJ returns and resembles the guy who pitched in 2006 the Marlins will have in effect added a top-of-the-rotation starter. Johnson?s return from Tommy John surgery was expected to be in early September or late August, but he is far ahead of that pace, and the Marlins believe he will be back around the All-Star break. That idea received a huge boost Monday when Johnson pitched in his first game since leaving the mound July 4 with pain after throwing five scoreless innings against the Padres. Johnson went five innings Monday and gave up five hits and one run in an extended spring training game against the Cardinals. He is set to start again in five days, and remain on a normal rotation until he is ready to join the Marlins. ?That?s good news,?? said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, who plans on putting Johnson in the rotation when Johnson rejoins the team. ?If he?s healthy he will be a starter,?? Gonzalez said. Johnson went 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2006, but he was one of the biggest reasons the Marlins came back from their 11-31 start and became a playoff contender. From May through August ? when the Marlins made their biggest push ? Johnson went 11-4 with a 2.77 ERA. He can be a difference maker. The biggest reason Florida fell into last place a year ago was the loss of Johnson, Anibal Sanchez and Ricky Nolasco ? 3/5 of the rotation. Nolasco is back is 5-4 with a 5.05 ERA, and although he has had an uneven season, Nolasco has had his moments. He won four in a row last month with a 2.56 ERA in those games. Sanchez is coming back from shoulder surgery and is behind Johnson in his rehab. But Gonzalez said Monday the ?Sanchez is close to pitching in a game.?? It might be a while for Sanchez to return, but Johnson could be on the mound in the middle of July. By then Andrew Miller will have another month under him, and Tucker may be a better pitcher than we saw on Sunday. LINK
June 9, 200818 yr Damn, this sounds awesome !!! wow imagine having all the big dogs back, WOW! *dreams*
June 9, 200818 yr I love Josh Johnson, IMO he was severely underrated by so many fans even in 06 when he was putting up fantastic numbers. He is a great pitcher, such a "heavy" fastball. I'd love to see an August rotation of: 1. Josh Johnson 2. Andrew Miller 3. Ryan Tucker 4. Chris Volstad 5. Mark Hendrickson Nolasco goes back to the bullpen, Olsen is traded away for a chip, Sergio Mitre takes over for Hendrickson if he continues to struggle. Young, inexperienced starting pitching? Hell yea, but oozing with pure talent and fresh arms. I wouldn't mind it either if we shut down Andrew Miller for a month (ala what the Red Sox are doing) and let a Mitre/Nolasco/Hendrickson take his spot for the time being.

Counting on both Tucker and Volstad to be significant rotation contributors in September, when they'd both be reaching career highs in innings (probably by a significant amount), wouldn't be the best idea.
June 9, 200818 yr After his performance so far tonight, I'd like to see Hendrickson out of the rotation please.

JJ Anibal Miller Tucker Volstad If it happens this year or next..either way thats an extremely talented staff.

June 10, 200818 yr If we can stay in contention by the time J.J and Anibal come up we're going to be set. Hopefully Volstad can get a call up too after he rehabilitates. We're going to have a chance to be very Very VERY nasty!
June 10, 200818 yr It looks good for the Fish, with JJ back sooner, maybe Anibal too and even Mitre the staff could get really good in time to make a serious playoof push. When they get Hammer and a few others healthy there could be a whole new team by August.
