2nd Half Super Saturdays Announced

Featured Replies

Florida Marlins announce "Super Saturdays" concert acts for second half of season

Super Saturdays attract larger audiences with captivating national and international performers

The final six Super Saturdays of the 2008 season include:

July 19 (Marlins vs. Phillies 3:55 p.m.) - Jerry Rivera

Puerto Rico native Jerry Rivera is a Grammy and Latin Grammy-award nominated salsa singer. His third album, Cuenta Conmigo , won three Platinum Record awards in the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Colombia. It became the most-sold salsa album in history, a record previously held by Willie Colon. Its hit songs included "Cuenta Conmigo", "Me Estoy Enamorando", "Casi Un Hechizo" and the number one hit from the album "Amores Como El Nuestro".

August 2 (Marlins vs. Rockies 7:10 p.m.) - The Bangles

Rock historians view the Bangles as one of the greatest all-female bands ever, lauding the L.A.-based quartet for its inventive incorporation of '60s folk rock, sunny SoCal harmonies and Beatles/Byrds/Beach Boys/Big Star godhead into a sound all its own - beguiling, frequently bittersweet, but always life-affirming; a canny merger of art and commerce. The Bangles' greatest hits include "Walk Like An Egyptian" and the love ballad "Eternal Flame."

August 16 (Marlins vs. Cubs 7:10 p.m.) - Jaci Velasquez

At 28 years of age, Jaci Velasquez is one of the world's most successful Christian/Latin/pop singers. Velasquez has sold over 3.5 million albums and has been nominated for two Latin Grammy's, three English Grammy's, five Latin Billboard Award nominations, six Dove Awards and won a Latin Billboard award for Female Pop Album of the Year. She signed with Myrrh Records at age 14 and her first album, "Heavenly Place" earned her the titled of "fastest selling solo debut artist in the history of Christian music. On March 18, 2008, Velasquez released "Love Out Loud," her 13th and debut album on her self-owned Apostrophe Records.

August 30 (Marlins vs. Mets 7:10 p.m.) - Olga Ta?on

Puerto Rican five-time Grammy award-winner, and recipient of 19Premios Lo Nuestro awards, Olga Ta?on started her musical career in the 80's, but began her solo career in 1992. Ta?on earned her first double-platinum record for her album "Siente el Amor." She later went on to record a Tex-Mex album with Mexican renowned singer Marco Antonio Solis, which turned her into the first Puerto Rican artist to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America to have sold half a million records.

September 13 (Marlins vs. Nationals - 7:10 p.m.) - Victor Manuelle and Albita (Hispanic Heritage Weekend)

Victor Manuelle was a leading voice among the generation of New York salsa performers who rose to prominence in the mid-'90s. Mentored by Gilberto Santa Rosa and produced by Sergio George, Manuelle regularly topped the tropical charts during his mid-'90s peak, as his albums Victor Manuelle (1996) and A Pesar de Todo (1997) spun off a nonstop parade of number one hits. Cuban-born Albita is a timeless artist who is a singer, musician, composer and producer. The two-time Grammy winner began singing on the streets of Little Havana with the help of Emilio Estefan. The Miami icon was named Queen of Carnaval Calle Ocho in 2005.

September 20 (Marlins vs. Phillies 7:10 p.m.) - Lou Gramm of Foreigner (Fan Appreciation Weekend)

Among the most distinctive and powerful voices to emerge from Rock and Top 40 radio, Lou Gramm - the lead vocalist and co-writer of the multi-platinum band Foreigner - as well as a successful solo artist in his own right - remains one of the most recognizable performers in music today. As the vocalist on 20 Top 40 singles, he exploded onto the international music scene with Foreigner on the chart topper, "Feels Like The First Time," in 1977. Now, nearly three decades after the debut of Foreigner and chart-topping success as a solo artist, Lou Gramm returns with a hot new band.

I wish for once they'd have a modern rock band out there...

Probably too expensive.

At what time would the concert be on July 19th?

Also...since that's a 3:55 PM game, I'm assuming it's a FOX Saturday game??

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the Bangles look like the best act coming to town....

But if Lou Gramm has any voice left, there are some great old Foreigner songs that all generations know well.

I LOST IN JEOPARDY BABY!

Sorry, buddy, but it looks like you're going to have to wait until next year to see Greg Kihn.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the Bangles look like the best act coming to town....

wow you must be joking, you are aware that Jerry Rivera and Olga Tanon are going to be there.

Mostly Hispanic music, not a shocker. The Latin acts usually draw way more than the others, so that's just smart business.

well this sucks...

The Bangles come when I will be moving into my apartment in Connecticut, Jerry Revera comes when we are on the NATIONAL stage (so we'll have 30,000 people there, but all they will care about is what time the game ends and concert starts. AND it's the Phillies...come on!), Jaci Velasquez performs on my last weekend in town...Jaci who?, and Lou Gramm is another concert I want to see but I will be obviously LONG gone by that point.

But like a previous poster said...baseball first!

Last year was so much better, I went to the Vince Neil/Quiet Riot and it was pretty good. Quiet Riot sucked, but Vince Neil was good.

I think the lead singer of Quiet Riot is dead so you dont have to worry about them sucking anymore :)

I understand that you may like them, but I don't think you can objectively compare the two to the Bangles in terms of their general fame and noteriety, at least in this country or in this country's biggest genre (rock).

"Hispanic Heritage Weekend"???? Looks more like Hispanic Heritage Second Half Of Season. Oh well. I'll catch the fireworks on the way to my car.

if they wanted to sell the place out they should have gotten Soda Stereo to make on of their stops from their reunion tour here, but that's probably too expensive.

Hopefully they turn the volume down a bit on some of those guys. I hate when they blast it...and I can't even hear myself think. Too much latin crap.

That's what me experiences with Willy Chirino and El Gran Combo have taught.

Whatever brings more people out to the ballpark is okay with me. The people who come to the game to see Chirino and El Gran Combo also show plenty support for the Marlins so I don't care why they're there is they're also cheering for the team.

Latin music has become extremely popular everywhere. I know a lot of ex-pats living here (from the UK, Netherlands, etc) who are totally into it because they see it as party/dance/festive music. It gets people dancing whether they actually know what they're doing or not they have fun with it. The same goes for people from other states. Whenever an office party is planned I prefer that they play a variety of music so that there's something for everyone but the masses always feel the Latin music makes it more fun.

Personally, I prefer rock but I get the appeal. For those who would like to see bigger, more current names -- let's get real, it's just too expensive. I go there for the baseball but I usually stay whether I'm into the concert act or not because I love fireworks and rather enjoy sitting outside at night listening to a free concert.

We all have our preferences but it's tough to complain about something that is, in fact, a free throw-in.
