I remember a few years ago the Lobo's (Univ. of NM) didn't have a starting pitcher with an ERA below 5.50. It changes the way you pitch and throwing in that light/dry air is absolutely nothing like throwing in humd/sea-level air. Your curve don't curve in Alb. so how is a prospect supposed to work on it? Throw it and you get lit up? Slider guys not affected as much.

 

Move to New Orleans IMO.

I agree, but I rather then get out of the PCL if atall posible.

but im not sure but we need to go somewhere where baseball is popular there richmond which is gonna be open which was great for the braves theres no cnhance we can use dodger town and i think LA takes albequerque so Vegas looks like our best bet

Vegas is just as big a launching pad as Alberquerque!!!!!!!!

I went to a game there a couple of years ago and there were 9 homers hit including both leadoff batters :blink:

If the Marlins leave they need to relocate to something a little closer so players promoted aren't flying all night and arrive moments before game time.

I wasnt meaning that as an insult to anyone. But as a rule, we rarely if ever send a player with potential to AAA, unless there is just no room on the Mudcats roster(which seems to be the case with your buddy). Lighten up.

Stop taking everything so personally, although Dallas didn't exactly look like anything more than scraps in AAA anyway.

I am curious what Dallas and the other players think of Albuquerque. I loved visiting there, and would enjoy living there. I stay in Rio Rancho when I go, and it is a gorwing area. What do the players think of the team, the city, the park, and the thin air? Do the players who are demoted from the MLB enjoy the area compared to Miami?

The players love the city and the coaching staff. Obviously the hitters like playing there a bit more than the pitchers do but they enjoy the atmosphere as a whole.

Dallas loved the city. Said that the fans were amazing. He said the park was packed every night. Loved looking at the mountains didnt love the mountain air so much (from a pitching standpoint)

man that would be sweet for the dodgers.

 

 

only thing left would be to return to san antonio for their AA affiliate.

I'd be a little sad to see us leave Alby next year only because they have about the coolest stadium I've ever seen, at any level. I can understand that we could do better, though, because it doesn't make sense to harm out player's development by having them play in such an extreme environment. In our organization, it makes much more sense to have a pitcher's park.

According to industry sources, and a Marlin source, the team will replace the Mets affiliate in New Orleans. The Mets are moving to Buffalo. The Dodgers are moving their Triple A team from Las Vegas to Albuquerque, and there was speculation the Marlins might leave Albuquerque and move to Las Vegas. The New Orleans location will make it easier to move players to and from their Triple A club.

Yea, I saw that....

 

The Las Vegas 51s were sold last fall by the Mandalay Group to the Stevens baseball group. They had mentioned they wanted to change the name of the team and would have the citizens give input. Apparently there was not enough interest and decided to leave.

well...one thing is for sure...I will remain an Isotopes fan regardless of their affiliation. I love the town, my family is there, and it was a great ballpark. Too bad they will not longer be the Marlins affiliate though.

 

I could never root for New Orleans, the team I saw the 'Topes beat this year...but I guess I will have to now, eh?

Why isnt our farm team.... closer? I mean as a primary call-up location it should at least be on the eastern half of the US...

Actually, I'd love to see the Marlins relocate their AAA team to Jacksonville, now that they have a contract with the ownership of that team. Beautiful stadium that's up to AAA standards in a good sized market that's only 5 hours away.

 

I say leave Las Vegas out in the cold--the sad reality is that baseball (and pro sports in general) is secondary in Las Vegas, the stadium is outdated and attendance is near the bottom of all AAA franchises. That the city is somehow touted as a possible relocation or expansion city for MLB is a joke.

Marlins' Triple-A club now New Orleans09/22/2008 6:40 PM ET By Jeff Wallner / Special to MLB.com

CINCINNATI -- The Marlins made it official Monday. Beginning next season, their Triple-A affiliate will be located in New Orleans.

 

The Marlins have signed a player development contract with the New Orleans Zephyrs through 2010, relocating their Triple-A affiliate from Albuquerque.

 

The announcement was made by Jim Fleming, the Marlins vice president of player development and scouting, and assistant general manager.

 

"The Florida Marlins are very pleased to begin an affiliation with the New Orleans Zephyrs," said Fleming in a statement. "The Zephyrs are a quality Triple-A organization whose leadership, facility and commitment to the community will serve our players and staff well."

 

The Marlins were affiliated with the Albuquerque Isotopes from 2003-08, while the Zephyrs were affiliated with the New York Mets from 2007-08.

 

In 2008, the Marlins' Triple-A team was 68-75, finishing second in the American South division of the Pacific Coast League. The team featured Minor League home run champion Dallas McPherson, who led all of Minor League Baseball with 42 home runs. "We are excited to begin this new partnership with New Orleans," Fleming said. "We look forward to a successful future together."

Actually it a long overdue move...Alburquerque was not working for the Marlins

I dont mind moving from Albuquerque, but I dont like the move to New Orleans. I wanted out of the PCL and not relocating to another hurricane-susceptible market.
