December 24, 200817 yr This guy is one of the best hitters of all-time and he's still out there like if he's got the plauge or something... Mr.Loria you let us down last season, why not give us the Marlins faithful a Christmas gift to remember... It wouldnt take alot right now to get him (except maybe for us) but we should really try to get this guy right now,he is exactly what our line-up needs.... Get it done Loria...

Manny expects around $20-25 million per season over 3-4 years.
December 24, 200817 yr Sadly I was waiting for this thread to happen since the Yanks signed Tex yesterday i'm surprised it took this long
December 24, 200817 yr so sign Manny, trade Cantu/Hermida/someone? for Salty/Pitcher and then you have a complete team
December 24, 200817 yr Well Loria is gonna receive a check from MLB courtesy of the N.Y. Yankees... Put it to good use...
December 24, 200817 yr Well Loria is gonna receive a check from MLB courtesy of the N.Y. Yankees... Put it to good use... He better do somethin with it. It be nice to make a splash right now but I doubt it happens.
December 24, 200817 yr Author so sign Manny, trade Cantu/Hermida/someone? for Salty/Pitcher and then you have a complete team And trade for Willingham and Olsen with the 3 players we got from them. Add some cash if you have to, there you go Nats get free money in the end.
December 24, 200817 yr If the Marlins were in the American League and weren't the poorest/cheapest team in baseball, I'd be all over this.
December 24, 200817 yr If the Marlins were in the American League and weren't the poorest/cheapest team in baseball, I'd be all over this. I would say cheapest not poorest, after knocking the Yankees he should refuse the check from them
December 24, 200817 yr I'll keep dreaming... Your not alone on that one. If we sign him this will be the perfect Christmas.
December 24, 200817 yr I love when people do this. Manny isn't what the team NEEDS right now. The Marlins situation isn't one to take a huge risk, to the point where Manny would earn more than the rest of the team...for MORE than 1 year, if I might add. No.

Well, think of it this way...Manny is 36 yrs old and he wants a 4 year contract Year - Age 2009 - 37 2010 - 38 2011 - 39 2012 - 40 Logic tells us that his numbers are going to decline as he ages (unless he is some kind of super human like Bonds..who took the r0ids). That is a pretty big risk to take when you're spending that kind of money on one player.

His age & contract make him a huge risk for the Florida Marlins. Not to mention his attitude. I'm usually not one to complain about "veteran presence" / "clubhouse cancer's," but if Manny decides he doesn't want to play anymore...he won't. He's done it in the past...not so long ago, in Boston.
December 24, 200817 yr How about proposing a one year deal, filled to the brim with incentive-laden bonuses, options, etc? Pay him 10-12 guaranteed, 2 mil for making the All-Star Game, 5 mil for being in the top 5 for NL MVP, 5 mil for making the playoffs, and 5 mil for winning the World Series. Obviously these are all random numbers just pulled out of my you-know-where, but I'd spend 27 million to win a World Series.

Why would he do that when he will eventually get $60-100 million guaranteed over 3-4 years.

Teams offer players contracts based on what they demand, not the other way around. Manny would never agree to something like this in a million years. As Lou said, there are going to be teams who will offer him around $100 MM guaranteed over 4 years, which is what he wants.

If he actually accepted that contract I would laugh at him. The minimum he would make is a guarantee 3 year 75 mil
December 24, 200817 yr You guys also forget that Manny's family(son wife and mother) Live here in Weston That may be another reaso he would want to sign with the fish. The thing is, where would we put him?
December 24, 200817 yr I agree that he would almost certainly be a problem for this team. He just isn't a team player, and that's the last thing we need on a young team like ours. I also can't imagine how many threads would show up on here by people complaining about Manny's antics, especially after many were knocking Miggy before he left for some of the minor things he did.
December 25, 200817 yr Everybody who says they don't want Manny is just in denial that the FO isn't willing to pay the extra penny to win this team a championship. I would love to have Manny, but the chances are very unrealistic. Manny will be either a National or Dodger, more likely a Dodger. Hopefully, one day in the near future, the Marlins splurge a little bit to show that they actually care about this team a little bit.

Just because they're not spending money doesn't mean they don't care about this team.
