First question: Why would a player that demands so much attention agree to go to the team that always is at dead last or next to dead last in attendance??? Because some talking heads said he would have okayed the trade last year after all was done and signed?? He also said he wanted to remain a Dodger for the rest of his career, after all was done and signed.

Second question: Why would we want an aging OFer that never was very good with his glove? It's not the direction the FO keeps saying they want to take the team.

In answer to the question: NO.

I think there's zero chance it happens because I think he will cost too much.

But everyone who mocks the idea of it like Manny is garbage are just lying to themselves. You can look at how he turned around the Dodgers, or just look at his numbers. No less than a 388 OBP in the last decade. SLG around 600 all but 1 year this decade. I don't care how old he is, unless he goes blind or busts a hip, he is probably gonna keep putting up big numbers where ever he plays. It's not like he's some has-been, the guy OPSed 1031 this year. And for his age, how much time has he spent on the DL? Does anyone here seriously think that the runs he would give up on defense in LF would actually outweigh his production at the plate (and the amount to which he would improve the production of other hitters)?

It's fine to mock the idea for it not being realistic, but please don't give me this garbage about how we're trying to improve defense. Give me a choice between him and Tori Hunter to play LF and everyone would pick Manny. If the FO could bring him in at an acceptable cost they would do it in a heartbeat.

And for the record, I don't believe he will be a Dodger next year, let alone the rest of his career.

Manny is going to provide an interesting situation in terms of his free agency. He is demanding a huge contract for several years.

The usual suspects are pretty much disinterested in signing him, meaning the yankees, bosox, and mets. So that leaves who in terms of the obvious possibilities. Well it leaves the dodgers of course, maybe even the phillies. But I won't be surprised if NO ONE gives him what he wants, especially b/c this is an offseason loaded with talent. So if he doesn't sign with the Dodgers, I do expect a dark horse to end up signing him. I don't meanthe marlins, but someone unexpected regardless.

Pitching, AND defense, when making threads we need to take all this into account. Manny would have been good for the playoff push, but he would have been a summer rental as it has been specified before. If you actually think about it, 82% increase is enough only to sign our players going through arb, and maybe a couple of bullpen arms which we are filling with minor pickups like Nunez, and Meyer, which can only mean we are in the market for a hitter.
