December 11, 200817 yr ? In a thin catcher's market, free agent Michael Barrett is stirring some interest from the Orioles, Astros, Blue Jays and Marlins. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=37...;type=blogEntry
December 11, 200817 yr predicted this was going to happen since the season ended. Barrett would be a last resort option for the Fish imo
December 11, 200817 yr Is he healthy? He was hurt twice last year: a right elbow strain which healed up enough for him to get back on the field, only to see him foul a pitch into his nose and end his season. I thought it was strange that the Padres had two guys break their faces last year. As long as he's healthy and fighting guys from the other teams, I'm OK with bringing him in.
December 11, 200817 yr Awful work ethic + Poor CS = Michael Barrett. and 2 years removed from an .885 OPS He'd be great for a milb deal to see if the bat has any hope of returning.
December 11, 200817 yr Michael Barret is one of the dumbest baseball players I've ever seen. He's one of Dusty Baker's guys.
December 11, 200817 yr Ehh, not too crazy over Barrett. But if we can't get anything better without giving up too much, then sure go ahead.
December 11, 200817 yr Well at least without Olsen there, he probably won't get into any fights with our starters...maybe.
December 11, 200817 yr Michael Barrett is incompetent at fielding his position. If he were even an average catcher, teams would be drooling over him because of his offensive potential. Part of me wants to believe that he could be a good pickup for the Marlins, but I also remember how badly he played at times for the Cubs, and there was a reason why he was shipped out of town mid-season for a worthless backup catcher.

Problem is, he also fights with guys on his own team. His clubhouse presence is most likely what got him shipped out last season. Think I'll pass on this one.
December 12, 200817 yr Barrett>Treanor Barret < Max Ramirez Marlins currently talking a trade with the Rangers involving Max Ramirez and an un-named pitching prospect. Coming to the Rangers thus far is Jeremy Hermida, only thing holding this deal back is the fact that they keep trying to include tucker in this deal.....
December 12, 200817 yr Hermida and either Tucker or Thompson for Ramirez is too much. Hermida and Tucker is too much. I'm not sure if Hermida and Thompson is, after the big hit he took this season. But I think Hermida and Hopper or someone like that is more fair for Ramirez.

But I think Hermida and Hopper or someone like that is more fair for Ramirez. Where are you reading that we need Hermida + one of those guys? On the Ramirez thread (where this talk belongs lol) it says just Thomson or Tucker, not with Hermida. It'd be insane to trade two of those guys. Does Ramirez really have that much more upside than Hermida? Don't forget that Ramirez is only 9th months younger or so.

It's not worth a guy as potentially as valuable as Hermida while we create a hold in RF only to potentially fill a possible hole at catcher. Most sources don't seem to think Ramirez can cut it behind the plate and that's not very re-assuring.
December 12, 200817 yr Mystik, there's several stories out there and what is happening is, I think, they are being combined as the rumor-mill churns along. There was the Ramirez for a pitching prospect, Thompson or Tucker, and one that was Hermida for Salty, which morphed into Hermida for Ramirez with Hermida creating enough depth in the outfield another player could be moved for pitching elsewhere, so God knows what the real story is...

That said, if it's Hermida + pitcher for Max (and not even Salty!) that would not be good at all.
December 12, 200817 yr Honestly I'd Rather keep Lo Duca then sign Barrett Although both aren't the greatest defensivly and hit lefties well Paul isn't as big of a dickhead and already fits in with the young team we have Hopefully we could get Max Ramirez Salty or Teagarden even Pudge before we have to resort to Barrett
