Morrison impressing Marlins

Featured Replies

This fall I listened to an interview with McPherson (during the off-season) wherein he admitted he had a terrible spring training track record and he was working hard to make sure it didn't happen again. Considering he was aware of what he had to do this spring, accomplishing that and having a productive spring is for me an important barometer what might be expected of him during the regular season.

In McPherson's case you have a set of special circumstances that makes his performance this month more important than a number of other position players as it can dictate his career path.

Last ST was pretty much the same thing. That 3B job was wide open and it ended up going to guy that didn't even know the position on Opening Day. Granted he got hurt towards the end of it, but watching him before the injury, I saw nothing that said I wanted him on the roster. Nothing this year either. Reading the posts from the stats watchers on here you would think this guy is something special the way they keep talking him up. Read the posts and then go watch him play, and it's a disappointment. But I'm not a coach or scout. Of course, going by the very late call up last season, the very limited playing time he got when he did get the call, and the very low raise he agreed to, I would assume the FO and coaching staff agree. The call up seemed more like a pat on the back for the power numbers he put up in AAA and to see if he had learned to hit consistently at this level.

Of course the way Gaby is playing and the injury to The Amazing, he may make the cut. Watching him play 1B Monday night wasn't uncomfortable. He did okay there. Couple of nice stretches, etc. Nothing was really hit his way tho. Just seemed solid there. 3B isn't his calling, regardless of what his fans say.

Should Dallas make the team as a starter would u propose he plays 1B and keep Cantu at 3B then?

I'm currently indifferent as to whether Gaby or Dallas earns a starting position. They both have their pros and cons and I dont think any one aspect of either of their games glares out saying they must be selected over the other.

I really don't want him to make the team. But if those were my only options, then yes.

I would want Dallas at 3B and Cantu at 1B if Dallas emerges as the predominant starter. Cantu is really that bad at 3B, and that good at 1B. NNY can explain this if you want him too.

Once again, we are back to our major disagreement here. Cantu really isn't that bad at 3B. But I look at the second half of the season after he had time to learn a bit at the position, not at the entire season as a means to judge. Apparently the coaches and FO agree. It always "if Gaby fails at 1B Cantu may get moved there and Dallas will platonn at 3B..." but if Gaby pulls this off they have Cantu at 3B and Dallas isn't mentioned.

If by saying "NNY can explain this to you" you mean he will twist things around to make himself look good, then let it fly.

Nny doesn't twist anything around, nor does he care about looking good.

So, basically, you like to make things up

So, basically, you have no reading comprehension.

You said you exagerate because I exagerate.

I state a fact, Dallas's career MLB OPS against RHP. There is no "exageration." It's a fact.

Things you've made up in this thread:

That I'm a Dallas fan (???. Being "fans" of a player is for 5 year olds and adults who haven't realized that false idolization of human beings is one of the downfalls of society. I'll seriously never understand the fascination of defending a player as being that players "fan." As if we're rooting for the players, and not the organization.)

That I've used small sample size ST stats to support a player (???)

That I've said he's a star in waiting (???), at which point the hypocracy makes you chuckle (and no, this irony is not lost on me)

And then that there's an exageration of skill (??? Unless you want to call his career MLB OPS against RHP an "exageration" instead of a fact)

Plus now that I twist things around (Show me where holmes) and that I care about my self image (which is why when I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong?)

So yes, basically, you like to make things up. I'm going to guess the "make himself look better" quip is basically a self-portrait of yourself. Aswell as basically coming down you not liking a player.

I think it's sad that somebody of your age can't have a single dicussion without throwing some insult in it. Speaks volumes of your character.

Oh well son. Have fun. :thumbup

Yes he does. And ignores the things that he dosen't have a legitimate argument against because they make his theories look bad just to key on minor trivialities. Go back and read the posts. Also, I'm not allowed to use exaggerations, but his are supposed to be taken as facts.

I was told I am basing my opinions of Dallas on a "small samle size", and therefore I have no legitimate opinion. Isn't that the same "small sample size" the pro-Dallas folks are basing their opinions on??? Hence I say that's being hypocritical. Response? "No I base mine on fact." What facts???? What he did a few years ago?? Before his surgery?? Does Mister NNY also say DTrain should be in the Tigers SP rotation because of what he did for us a few years ago?????

A hypocrit is a hypocrit. Plain and simple.

I gave many reasons why I don't think Dallas is in the hearts and minds of the FO and coaching staff. Was that adderessed??? NO Because, IMO, there wasn't a logical arguement against those thoughts. And what did I get in return for questioning that?? "I responded to what what I thought was relevant." Paraphrasing there. But he keyed in on a tirviality and focused on something that had nothing to do with the topic of the discussion only to try to make me look bad and him like some kind of Marlins God.

A hypocrit is a hypocrit. Friend of yours or not.

Sorry Rab. Bit buzzed right now but I don't care much for people like NNY. Plain and simple.

.

I didn't even bother reading this post. But I am not your "son." Nor do I appreciate the tone of the last part of this. It is quite evident you and I will never get along. Just like it is evident you will never show your face beyond this screen. Brave individuals behind computer screens make me chuckle as much as hypocrits.

Laughing out loud right now.

You hate people that make logical arguments based on objective information and not some unreliable empirical methods. You hate people that don't immediately defer to you because of your age and tenure watching baseball.

Nny is pretty much the ultimate middle-ground between an "eye guy" and a "stat guy" and even that's not good enough because your opinions and ideals aren't given some undue veracity.

e.g.

You look at Dallas and make the judgment that he is not good at defense, or offense or whatever it is your daily McGripe is. Nny qualifies the fact that Dallas has done things at specific rates, which translate into longer term performance. How many games have you physically watched (which is your biggest method of judgment) Dallas play in... or Coghlan, or whomever you want to deprecate for not being fast or being a gold-glove player. Your observational evidence is much more a small sample-size then rate stats, or the scouting reports that Rambo McDonald has shown, time and again, that have gone against what you say.

Now, I ask you, who are we to believe more? Whose opinion is of a higher value, those that take into account MULTIPLE resources, or those that sit in on a town-hall meeting and catch a few spring training games and consider themselves to be God's gift to the baseball world?

Preach on, brother... and by the way... I'll be MORE than happy to accommodate you with a face-to-face meeting at a Marlins game this summer.

Also... because my inner English teacher is screaming for it...

H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E

Irony is not passed on me. I love hypocrite calling somebody a hypocrite.

Or because there's -zero- way to qualify what the FO is thinking. Why should I bother argueing what I THINK the FO THINKS. Why??? Seriously you want to get into fisty-cuffs over what you THINK the FO THINKS?

I argued what there is fact of.

Tell me, what is the trivial part: What you THINK the FO THINKS, or what is statistical fact?

I ignore the trivial stuff, son.

p.s. why do you think I wouldn't meet you "face to face?" I've posted my face on here several times before, it's not like I have something to hide. I can't speak of when I'd be in Miami, but I go to atleast one Tampa game. I've always wanted to see your Marlins tatoo. I just think it's unfortunate that you're an asshole (seriously when have I ever shown you hostility? I enjoyed reading your post before because, even though there was always some atleast sutble and at worst blatent insult pointed at somebody in almost every single one of your posts, you've atleast shown intellgence and why you think a certain way and even if I don't agree with it, I can atleast respect it. I think it's safe to say I'm one of the least hostile people here, so to then be attacked makes me LOL at the irony you're spewing out), because instead of being able to enjoy a game and beer with you, I'd only be able to say "What's up son?", pat you on the back, and be on my way.

No, but for real. I would watch the sh*t out of some Willy Wonka right now. Gene Wilder might give the greatest comedic performance ever in that movie.

And this is that one dude's shtick, and it always has been (Broncobob). He attacks people who disagree with him and then uses the "I'm an old dude and I go to games, so I'm right" argument to put himself above it all.

Also, lest the Bronco dude accuses me of hiding my face, here's me:

Does anyone else believe that this should be a place to discuss the Florida Marlins baseball team and not the individual insecurity issues of some fans?

I believe a mod should move this thread to the "waste of server space" sub forum.
