7 innings?

Featured Replies

A little much for a Spring Training game, no?

Especially considering there's still another week or so of Spring Training left to stretch out the pitchers start by start...

Does anyone know how many pitches it was?

Iv read on several sites that "experts" feel Fredi has made his starters pitch too many innings so far in ST and it could be a worry later in the season.

Ricky is also the 1st pitcher in the league to go 7 innings this ST.

I was watching it on FS Detroit and the last total I heard was around 80. I haven't been able to find a box score yet with the exact total.

i heard during end of game their show how pitch both pitcher have riky was 80 pitch

Gotta stretch it out... Opening Day right around the corner

this, you gotta start getting players into regular season form soon enough, you don't want your opening day starter not being ready to go deep into the game once the season starts. Fredi is timing this out perfectly.

Is he? :notworthy

He faced the minimum amount of batters in the 7 innings and the pitch count was probably something that Fredi had in mind. Keep in mind that it's probably Wiley who has a lot of say in this and his policy is to work guys to the limit. Wiley got the best season's out of Willis and Beckett so I really don't have a problem with that.

I was at the game today. Ricky looked like he was in great shape (a little on the lighter side) and it showed. He had great stuff and control. I have no problem with a pitcher going 80 pitches in a late spring training game, especially when they were as effortless as he made it look today.

Ricky threw 84 pitches over 7 innings. Anibal threw 89 yesterday in less innings, and nobody was griping. This is only good, and I see zero problem with this.

I hadn't noticed the pitch count. You guys are right.

or you could have noticed that detroit didn't get a hit... and only 2 BBs for Nolasco.

I'm pissed he didnt let him go 9!

On the other hand, it was nice to see Meyer and Nunez come into a "pressure" situation and succeed.

All I know is I picked the right game to attend my only game this spring! What's not mentioned in box scores were the hordes of snowbirds who fell silent by the third inning, who then started asking who this Nolasco kid was. I happily answered them, and then the conversation turned to the rest of the team.

I especially loved the guy sitting in front of me. He asked "Hey, isn't that Uggla the guy that had three errors in the All-Star game?" I told him he was, but that wasn't representative of his defense, that while he didn't have the best range, he was still a quality 2B. No sooner did I say that, but he helped turn a real nice double play in the 1st inning.

Another thing I don't see mentioned in any of the articles was the bomb Raynor hit to LF. It almost cleared the berm and stadium.

Didn't he only walk one batter in the 1st and hit another in the 2nd?

Right. B/c the purpose of Spring Training is to send your best out there to win the game. :whistle

I do have a problem with Anibal going 89... if there's one guy you scale back on, even in spring, it's Anibal...

I hear that Nolasco kid is nasty. And he's got amazing control to boot.
