April 19, 200917 yr So, what's the over/under for Hours Until Manny Acta is Fired? Dont Know, but I just heard Acta in a press conference vehemently state that there would be a brand new bullpen by tomorrow.
April 19, 200917 yr And Mike Stanton went 5/5 in Jupiter today, hitting his 3rd HR in the process. He's batting .417 early on. Unstoppable. Actually .417 means he's stopped 68.3% of the time, not unstoppable. :thumbup you might want to check your math there, pal. you just got STOPPED!
April 20, 200917 yr When someone mentioned here (@MB.com) that they just saw Manny Acta holding a press conference and promising a new bullpen "tomorrow" was n't sure whether to take it literally or the person was making a joke. There's a link at the bottom of the whole story and all the moves but... "Once Acta returned to his office, he and Acting GM Mike Rizzo called the players in one-by-one. First Steven Shell. Then Wil Ledezma. Then Saul Rivera. Yup, overnight, three-sevenths of the bullpen is sent down. Counting the long-anticipated roster move -- C Josh Bard, gone; P Jordan Zimmermann, up -- this team is turning over almost a fifth of its roster. Here are the moves: GOING DOWN: * RHP Saul Rivera, optioned to Class AAA Syracuse * LHP Wil Ledezma, designated for assignment * RHP Steven Shell, designated for assignment * C Josh Bard, optioned to Class AAA Syracuse COMING UP: * RHP Garrett Mock * RHP Jason Bergmann * RHP Kip Wells * RHP Jordan Zimmermann..." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationals...ationalsjournal It's a really interesting read, comments by Rizzo and Acta...
April 20, 200917 yr -- this team is turning over almost a fifth of its roster. Poor Nats :confused You should have seen the bitter fans get up and leave after Cody's double :shifty One more observation from the stands today - EB dropped the ball during aound-the-horn on two different occasions. I was pissed, but when he reached in the 9th I knew we had won! :thumbup Finally he takes another walk!
April 20, 200917 yr Shell has awesome stuff, but no poise. If we needed bullpen help, I'd consider him.
April 20, 200917 yr Shell has awesome stuff, but no poise. If we needed bullpen help, I'd consider him. He also has no job, he was DFA'd. (random thoughts and wild-azz speculation ~~~>)Would Pedro join Dunn in DC? Would the Lerners' spend the money? Who can they trade (Anderson Hernandez? Dukes?) to fill out their pitching needs? Acta, at one point says, "We should have already won the series..." talking about the two games previous and Marlins fan or no, I think we all know that's has a shred of truth to it. Frankly I hope they get better in a hurry and beat up on the rest of the NL East since we don't see them for a couple of months.
April 20, 200917 yr What else could they do? Didn't matter who was pitching. Just goes to show you how much former GM Bowden missed the mark.
April 20, 200917 yr What else could they do? Didn't matter who was pitching. Just goes to show you how much former GM Bowden missed the mark. You mean like signing 117 outfielders and thinking he'd figure where they'd all go later? :brigginbounce

April 20, 200917 yr You may be right but he was removed from the 40 man (automatic) as well so there are only three things they can do with him - place him on waivers, trade him or release him. He has to make it through waivers to wind up in the Nationals minor league system.

He's the guy that helped build the Braves dynasty. Wouldn't expect too many moves until the Nats have some depth in their farm system.

April 20, 200917 yr Man I wonder what Scotty and Hammer are thinking right now.... I am next. They both better watch out because the Nats could send them to Low-A  .
April 20, 200917 yr http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/media/video...54&c_id=fla I hope this works . Memories.
April 20, 200917 yr Funny that they get sent down after being completely misused against a hot lineup. That whole organization is a joke. Gotta believe there's a grievance there somewhere.
April 20, 200917 yr Man I wonder what Scotty and Hammer are thinking right now.... I don't give a flying taser what Olsen is thinking, but I feel bad for Hammer :confused
April 20, 200917 yr By the way, Shell is a very decent reliever who held down a 2.16 ERA in 50 innings last year. Pathetic that he's taking the fall for this. Hopefully he gets claimed off waivers.
April 20, 200917 yr I just had to come back from hiatus and give my respects to this team. They're incredible. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy Extra kudos go towards Cody for today's game. The boss is making it happen once again! ...... now if only Hanley and Bonifacio would get out of their Dominican slump...... Then I'd be a satisfied Dominican, Marlins Fan. :mischief 2nd series sweep of the nats. We've got them begging for a bailout... Thank god for the Marlins... if not for them and their great start, I'd be a sad panda still hurting from watching the Heat get preyed on by Hawks in the playoffs.

April 20, 200917 yr My vote went for the bullpen! Thanks to them they kept us in the game and gave the offense a chance to catch up. Sweet comeback win, though! GO MARLINS! :gofisht :gofish :gofishb
