Where were you when the Fish won the World Series? What were you doing during the game, and what did you do afterward?

(Happy thoughts to get us through these tough times)

1997: I was at the game, sitting in section 424 far far away from everything but either way I still saw Edgar's hit fly over Nagy's head and Craig catching some hair above Home Plate. Dude with an Indians flag in our section was maybe the only person in the stadium to not go home happy.

2003: I was watching the game with my roommate and some friends. Went crazy when Beckett tagged Posada, then ran around campus with my friends all draped in Marlins paraphernalia. (I was at the Gonzo's Corner game, but that wasn't when we won)

1997: Was pretty young, in Florida at the time, and was only a "casual fan" (In other words, I was a "Marlins fan in name only", because while they were my favorite team, there was really no reason for it, I didn't follow the team, nor did I ever check up on them)

2003: In Japan at the time...I think I was in school, or just before school started (I remember checking the scores and what was going on for those few weeks). The World Series, while a nice bonus, wasn't as big a prize (still very nice, and I love it more now that I'm a hardcore fan then before) because none of my buddies were really Yankees fans...so no one to really rib. Now the Cubs series...THAT is a completely different matter :shifty . Oh I ribbed...

2003 was also, really in my mind that I began the slow change from a casual fan into the more semi-hardcore fan that I am now (I can't say I'm at the Hardcore level yet because while I love my team, I don't know nor follow all the stats (well, I'm starting to...)...and I still will turn the game off when, say, we give up a 3 run home run to make a game 7-0 and our team has looked like an A team the entire game...although I'll still take a peek in maybe the 8th or the 9th). I remember, while on a brief visit home sometime in the summer, picking up a news paper at a hotel, and there was an article talking about how my team had the best record after the All Star break in the Majors. From that point, every opportunity I got during the season to look at a news mag, I'd look in the back for the team record to see where my team and some other teams were at, what happened on that day (if my team won or lost, who did well, who didn't, so on and so forth). Things just sorta progressed from there, and now I watch and enthusiastically root for my team day in and out and watch all the games I can.

On a further note, Baseball, for me, has been kinda like Marijuana...a gateway sport. I never really watched football, professional or College, until last year. Now I watch that, and I'm starting to get a little interested in Basketball, Soccer, and Hockey. I suspect pretty soon I'll be getting into more hardcore stuff, but for now, Baseball and Football and just a small touch of those other sports are giving me that nice high.

Sadly I never followed baseball until 2006 which isn't suprising considering how much of a minority sport it is here. Since I obviously missed the 2 WS wins, that just makes me all the more desperate to see a Marlins victory in the near future.

1997- was in the front room with my mother, and my father was watching it in another room. I was very excited I remember.

2003- I was watching it on tv in the front room, once again excited, but not as excited as the first win in 97

1997: I was in the living room watching it with my Dad (I was only 13 then)

2003: In Key West for Fantasy Fest at sitting at a bar (Caroline's) outside on Duval, literally when it happened you could see the news like travel through the street, everyone went crazy! It was an awesome night (especially because I was on that trip with some hard-core Yankee fans, hehehe).

1997 - I coming to terms with my wife being pregnant.

2003 - I was struggling to keep a dying extra-marital affair burning. It went out a month later.

I had no awareness of a team called the Florida Marlins until July, 2007.

Sometime I wish it had stayed that way :)

1997 - I was 10 years old and sleeping.. I wasnt much of a fan at that time :\

2003 - watching it in the living room with my mom's boyfriend at the time, who is also a big yankee fan. as soon as beckett got the last out I jumped up cheered. we watched the post-game stuff for a few minutes and then we all went to 49th street and celebrated there along with the rest of Hialeah.

1997: In my seat, Section 130, Row 2, Seat 17

2003: At a convention with a buddy of mine, a Yankee's fan, and we made a bet that if the Marlins won he'd have to wear a Marlins Jersey to the convetion we were going to in January... at the Meadowlands. He didn't.... welcher!

I was in country during the '97 WS. Game 7 was incredibly stressful because I had an early morning flight and one more inning and I probably would have had to stop watching.

1997 - Stayed up late to watch Renteria's basehit off of Nagy into centerfield...then went to bed, had to work at 6am

2003 - Was at a bar that hated Yankees (so they were pro-Marlins by default) and wearing my 1997 road gray jersey...After Beckett tagged Posada, I called my dad on my cell phone, then proceeded to get plastered with shots of Jose Cuervo and Jager and a large pitcher of Yuengling

97: Seriously barely remember anything other than at my own house.

03: At a friend's house with PWG, others were not watching it because they weren't sports fans, whilst we were celebrating happily.

97: First baseball memories came from this, not like being a fan of someone, but specific instances, like Robb Nen throwing 100mph bullets to Indians hitters. My grandfather, who is a spitting image of Jim Leyland, was there too, and it was the last time he came to visit, so that was cool. My dad took me to a store around the 6th inning, but I came back with time to spare to see the GW hit.

2003: Surprisingly, I remember less about this... I assume it was KC's house? I mean, I remember the game, just not the surrounding stuff. But yeah, 'twas a good time indeed.

97: That was too long ago to remember.

03: I watched it in my house with some friends and family.

'97 I was 8 years old and I really don't remember.

'03 I was at my tia's house going crazy with my family. Afterwards we went out in Doral and other parts of Miami with pots and pans and celebrated on the streets. It was AMAZING!!!

1997: Playing with my legos :p

2003: Watching the game in my living room with my family and a friend of mine. My family doesn't care about sports much, so it wasn't a huge celebration, but I was extremely happy. :D

97- i was 6 i dont think i could remember what happened when i was 10

03-i was at home watching on my tv than i went crazy=]

1997- Everyone in the house had gone to bed except me, my father, and my brother. We watched it on tv in his room and then woke everyone else up when the game ended. I was 14 at the time.

2003- Started watching at home with my best friend, my brother, and my grandfather. Then went over to a watch party at my girlfriend's relative's house, where we saw the end of the game. then we drove around SW8th Street honking the horn.

1997: I was in 4th grade and my mom surprisingly let me stay up late to watch the game all the way to end. Granted, I had no idea what was going on. But the next day, my dad signed me out early from school and we went driving up and down 8th street with everyone else going crazy. THAT was fun.

2003: I was at Hooters with my older cousin getting drunk. It was fun. The whole place erupted with Beckett tagged Posada. We left and, again, drove up and down 8th street.

I remember 2003 more than 1997. I always liked baseball but I wasn't really fan until maybe 2004.

1997: I was in my room at my parents old house in Hialeah Gardens, by myself, watching the game with religious intensity.

2003: I was at Gracie's grill at FIU, pounding a bottle of rum that I managed to snick in. That was just a great time, watching the fish embarrass the Yankees.

at home......

both were big time wins......

no one gave us a chance of winning.....

guess what we won.............

beer, beer and more beer....

we are the champions of the world...
