Chris Coghlan has pretty much cemented his spot in leadoff this year, but who should hit after him?

We've seen Bonifacio fail at it. Baker had a good amount of success there in a short sample size. Helms shouldn't be playing everyday.

I would love to see some stats of others batting in that position (like Hermida).

Discuss.

What's really sad is that Bonifacio is like 60 points better in OPS batting 2nd. So we have a dillema of him being slightly less useless in a spot where he kills us anyways. Ugh.

It should be Baker who has had success in the spot. (Paulino against lefties)

For those who are speed believers...fine. Against lefties, Brett Carroll has been hitting the ball, lately. I wouldn't be a fan of the move, but Carroll>Helms for that 2nd spot, currently, against lefties.

vs LHP Bonifacio

vs RHP Baker

Well it wouldn't be a bad choice as he is hitting .303 with an OBP of .312 vs Lefties with 23 Hits and 21 of them being singles the others 2 doubles.

or...

You could stick him in there or put Carroll in there who has also done well vs LHP.

i like marlin prides idea...boni does do well vs lefties....so why not?

VS RHP

1. Coghlan

2. Baker

3. Hanley

4. Cantu

5. Uggla

6. Hermida

7. Ross

8. Gload

to tell u the truth i say let helms play third 80% of the time and boni the other until we have a full time replacement come in!

A .667 OPS isn't necessarily "doing well".

But OPS is not something you really care about in a 1 or 2 hitter as they usually don't slug as well.

His OBP vs LHP is only .312.

It's not bad but it's not great.

If you wan't some speed in the top of the order then it's either Bonifacio or Carroll batting 2nd.

Im not really high on Paulino batting 2nd as he is fine in the 6 and 7 spot.

Hermida no questiom

Coghlan, Hermida, Hanley, Cantu, Ross, Uggla, Baker/Paulino, Gload/Carroll/Bonifacio

Bomifacio had his chance to play everyday... now give it to one of GLoad or Carroll. Both are hitting so why not? Or at least move Bonifacio to 8th... please.

Ohhhh Damn, I can't believe i forgot about Gload, he'd be great in the 2 spot and has hit lefties pretty well in minimal at bats.

Also, his career splits against LHP are quite poor, even worse than his numbers against righties.

I like Gload too but I think Hermida would thrive at two. Already has a .361 OBP and you'd have to think that would rise with the pitches he'd see batting in front of Hanley. I just think it makes too much sense not to try. I like Gload but I think he would be used best at turning the lineup over, not being counted on to get base at the top of the lineup.

This is a very tough choice in my opinion because you have so many options.

VS RHP you can put Hermida, Baker or Gload in the 2 spot and vs LHP you can put Bonifacio, Gload, or Carroll.

I love Baker vs RHP since he has done well in that spot dating back to last season and Hermida had hit righties well but i would rather have him 5th or 6th because of his SLG%.

Then vs Lefties Baker is out of the lineup and Hermida has struggled against them which leaves Carroll Gload and Bonifacio.

Gload has minimal AB's but has done pretty well against lefties and also very well batting 2nd.

Carroll as of late has started more games in RF vs LHP instead of Hermida and has done well batting .318/.348/.591 in 22 AB's

Bonifacio has hit lefties way better then righties this season but his career numbers show he hasn't done well against lefties and the way he has been hitting lately it would be smarter to keep him away from the top of the lineup.

Hanley Ramirez

Hanley Ramirez

That's actually a pretty good idea. PWG wrote an article that says our best lineup featured Hanley hitting second.

But we all know that's not going to happen. I would love to see what Erick said. Baker vs Righties, and Paulino vs Lefties.

The article was based on a system from a website that would have a lineup that would produce the best runs production.

Due to Hanley's high OBP it slotted him in the 2 hole but it isn't really the best option.

Baker or Hermida vs RHP.

Against lefties... I have no idea. Hermida still maybe? I don't know.

I'm the least "speed in the lineup" guy there is, but I'd hate to see Ronnie take doubles and triples away from Hanley because he's the slowest man on the planet.
