July 19, 200917 yr It's is nearly 100% right now that we are buyers, considering we have one of the weakest strength of schedules the rest of the season, only I believe behind the Brewers. The thing is the front office is looking for bullpen help right now in the market, and that's probably what we are going to go out and get. If you consider trading Hermida and/or Uggla as "selling", than sure we could be sellers as well. But yeah based on what we have in front of us we should without a doubt be in the race until the very end.
July 19, 200917 yr At this point of the season anything can happen. We can suddenly find it and win the division or wildcard and the Phillies can just pull a Mets and choke. As of now we are buyers because we are in reasonable reaches of both the division and wildcard but this is a good question to ask in Late August and September.

July 19, 200917 yr I'm not gonna answer because I think we should in some ways be both. Most would consider trading one of our biggest pieces- such as an Uggla- selling, but I think we need to change the complexion of this team with a big trade which will hopefully bring some talent back. But do I think we should just try and add a closer or something to the team and hope the current crop will cut it? No. I guess in the end, this qualifies me as a buyer, but I would prefer to try and deal one of our guys that are gonna be inevitably gone anyway. We just don't have what it takes to mortgage our future on these guys.

July 19, 200917 yr Let's see. Imagine that you are Loria. You will have a new stadium that you want to pack in '12, particularly with corporate buyers of the most expensive seats and boxes and what-not, of which you will finally, at long last, have lots. How best to do that? Might it be that anytime you hit mid-seasonish in '09-'10-'11, that is, towards the non-waiver trading deadline with anything remotely resembling a shot at the post-season, you budget $10 mill or so to do a little buying whether you mean it or not, so as to generate a little excitement and sales activity? Not to mention increasing the general perception that you want to own and provide a winner? Sounds like a plan to me. We may be buyers for reasons other than current pure on-field potential. Which is a good thing.

July 19, 200917 yr Hopefully buyers, because that would mean they are still in the race. But at the same time, I don't want to see this team trading away prospects or anything of future value if this team is 7 or 8 games out. That would be stupid. And no one should get pissed off if the Marlins turn into sellers. Just because ESPN thinks its bad to trade people away, doesn't make it so. We have had almost the same roster of guys for three years now, and it should be obvious by now that this roster isn't going to get the job done. OH NOES! WE'LL NO LONGER BE A .500 TEAM! It's not the bullpen who has cost the Marlins most of their games. The offense and poor execution cost us most of the games. Why aren't they looking for another hitter/big bat?
July 19, 200917 yr After Miller's start today, i think we will need to trade for a reliable starting pitcher. Package Hermida and Uggla for a top 3 pitcher, move Boni to second, move Ross to right, call up Gaby and Maybin and put them in 3B and CF (respectfully).
