Our chances to make the playoffs

Featured Replies

well the rockies just lost so we are 4 games back. The worst record we can possibly have these next nine games is 7-2 and the best record the rockies can possibly have is 3-6 if we intend to remain in a tie for the wild card. This is also assuming the braves and giants play poorly enough to fall behind us. The rockies have to play the cards, dodgers, and brewers; which in my opinion it is pretty feasible to end up with a record of 3-6 against those teams. The problem is we also have to play tough teams in the phillies and braves. Here's to hoping

Don't worry about the Braves. If the Marlins were to make a run at a winning streak from here on out, it automatically means they surpass the Braves (b/c we play a 3 game series against them)

That leaves the Giants...if they lose tonight, we tie with them.

That then leaves the Rockies, and really...the odds don't favor us, at all. But regardless, they still have to play the games. And so you never know.

If Marlins can sweep Mets, we will hopefully be just 1 or 2 back with a week to go. Rockies just lost series to Padres and now have to face Carpenter, Wainwright & Piniero.

And although Cards have division wrapped up, they have the motivation to go for home field advantage in playoffs.

Well the Rockies have lost 3 of their last 4 series', so they seem to have hit a bad patch just at the wrong time. They got through 6 pitchers tonight despite a strong outing from Hamels. I think they're choking a bit. We can't expect to go 9-0 or 8-1 from here to end of season, but I think Rockies losing 5 or 6 games is very possible. We've got to throw everything we've got at the Muts, just to be in with a chance come Braves series.

To keep the positive vibes going...the Rockies play the Dodgers their last series of the year, and that series will be meaningful to the Dodgers either way (be it for the homefield, or the division, itself). In the season series, the Dodgers have won every series this year. Rockies are 3-12 against the Dodgers.

I'd be most concerned about the Giants if the Rockies were to bust. Which is possible.

It's not impossible, but it's important to play it one game at a time. Win em all.

It's really a shame though because a lot of guys really deserve it this year IMO.

i like

yes dodger fight phy and st louis for homefield so that could help us mean their no layoff for them good thing we have brave next week because their one team ahead of us we need go their take care bussines

The rockies will have to do real bad, doubt they'll do that bad or bad enough to drop more behind to clinch the wild card. Right now the magic number is 7, that's a lot but the fish and braves have some big series coming up. I saw a report that said the fish weren't worried about getting past the rockies, they want the division from the phils but I think that's even more difficult even thogh they had a series win this week. The fish got lucky this week imo.

If that series is important to the Dodgers for the division itself, that would mean that the Rox won a ton of games to catch up, in which case we are near assuredly screwed. Let's just hope the Dodgers are still fighting for homefield, which they quite possibly will be (2.5 ahead of Phillies, 3 ahead of Cardinals).

Not really. It could mean that the Dodgers went like 0-6, while the Rockies went 3-3. That would start that 3 game series with the Rockies being 3 games back of the Dodgers, making the series an important series for the division (at least Game 1).

True, but that's quite the long, long, long shot - either way, it's nice to note that the dodgers should have at least one of multiple reasons to care about at least 1 of those games ;)

The odds are stacked against us, but at the very least, it's nice to still have a faint chance going into the last week or so of the season.

I'm not sure I understand this thread.

We keep playing until our game count equals 162 and then if we have the best record in either the division or the wild card we keep playing. Until then you play every game like it's your last and if you can keep winning everything else will work itself out.

All I know is the Fish are still in contention on September 25th and we have a three game homestand starting tonight.

It's a testament to the team and franchise that we've made it to September 25 and we're still alive.

Realistically, with all the teams involved, we need to go 9-0 and get some help to make the playoffs. Makes every game a playoff game.

Maybe we could sneak in with 1 loss. :hat

It get back to early in the season when we were blowing games and everyone was saying it is early and we still have a long way to go, well those games are coming back to haunt us, just remember the old saying, "A bird in hand is better than two in the bush"

That first series against the Phillies, in particular game 1 involving Lindstrom jumps to mind.

We can wish all we want, however the odds of making the playoffs are virtually none.

We're at a 2.7% chance right now, mathematically. That's hugely low but slightly more than virtually none.

All the people giving up obviously didn't take much away from Little Giants.

1 time!

Every team has games like that.
