Coghlan named 2009 NL Rookie of The Year

BTW, off topic again, but 2003, LeBatard's show just got someone bitching at them for not talking about that new tight end.

So, who's gonna be our ROTY in 2012?

Marquis Cooper ldo :D

anyway, GO CC!!! Now we need to turn some of those Rookie of the Year's into Cy Young's and MVP's :D

Actually...we need to turn some of the individual awards into a World Series.

Anyone a little surprised with the AL ROTY?

Kind of. I was expecting Porcello or Andrus to win it because they are the "sexier" choices but I personally was rooting for Bailey. Although, whenever I watched anything on MLB network these past couple weeks the analysts seemed to also favor Bailey so I wasn't too surprised.

Bailey was my choice for AL ROY. He was a top 5 closer in the AL last year for sure. But he played on the A's so he didn't get much attention. We all know how that feels.

Congrats Cogs! Didn't think he had a chance to win it since the media doesn't pay any attention to the Marlins, but looks like they're smarter then we thought. Chris will be on 790 later today for those that are interested.

Does anyone know whether or not I can stream this? I don't actually get 790 up here but I would love to hear what he's got to say.

Baby steps.

I don't think it will be a Marlin. Isn't Ozzie Smith's son supposed to debut in 2012?

Who?

I just heard Cogs on 790 online and one of the questions asked was, "When Loria called you to give you the news and you saw his name on the caller-id, what percentage of you thought you were getting traded?"

Stanton? I know he'll come before 2012 but how great would it be moving into a new stadium and taking a first look at this kid in a Marlins uniform, and having him turn out to be a beast that same year.

Nikko Smith? Isn't he a singer? Does he have other children?

I've never been a big fan of pitchers winning that award to begin with. Even when DTrain got it. But a reliever?

Oh well. At least they finally got something right this year. Wright didn't win the GG. Congrats to Zimms.

ESPN just said Coghlan got on base at a terrible rate. What's with all the hate?

Strange, ESPN picked him as their Rookie of the Year.

And after listening to Keith Law's analysis on Coghlan, he is more than upset, he seems furious at the writers for voting Coghlan as the ROY, basically saying "oh, he had a lot of hits, but that shouldn't make him rookie of the year, voters rely too much on old school stats"

I agree on the fact that they rely on old school stats a little too much, but come on Law, a .372 BA in the 2nd half? Led the majors in hits in the 2nd half. The numbers Coghlan put up just cannot be ignored, don't be upset that your "buddy" McCutchen didn't make the top 3. I mean the ESPNEWS anchor asks him what set Coghlan apart from the rest of the hitters, and instead of stating what he did good, he criticizes him, I mean come on Law, have some balls to at least give credit to a player where credit is due, regardless of whether you agree he is the ROY or not.

And he criticizes Andrew Bailey for playing the position he does. He was lights out this year at closer, give him credit for what he did. Law actually turned a question stating why Bailey deserved it into a rant about how Porcello is so great, not saying a word about why Bailey deserved to win it, good going Law, lost some respect in my eyes, not just for the Coghlan comments, but for the way you conducted yourself in that interview.
