February 23, 201014 yr He was a big factor in Rays clubhouse just two years ago, I would love to have him back with organization in any capacity.
February 23, 201014 yr When I first read the title I thought he was trying to make a comeback as a player lol. Cliff has always been one of my favorite Marlins as well.

February 23, 201014 yr I find it hard to believe that a guy who spent five years bad-mouthing the organization and happily admitted he rooted against the Marlins in 2003 (he didn't root for the Yankees, he rooted AGAINST the Marlins in the World Series and was proud of it) would be welcomed back into the organization (read, Marlins not Fox)by ownership. Not a chance in hell would be my guess and that would be only after some serious boot-licking and groveling to make amends for previous statements. I would bet if he winds anywhere with Fox it will be with the Rays and after his little audition nowhere near the Fish.
February 23, 201014 yr Former Florida Marlins All Star Cliff Floyd to make his TV debut by Joe Capozzi Former Marlins All Star slugger Cliff Floyd showed up in Jupiter this afternoon — but not to win a roster job. Wearing street clothes, Floyd was interviewing players for a television segment that will be shown at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox Sports Florida. “I’m just basically winging it, Floyd said after finishing his first interviews. “This is a totally different ballgame. It’s almost like being a rookie and going into the game. Its not easy. It’s a serious job. “I dont know where it’s going to go but to get comfortable with it won’t hurt. I haven’t officially retired so if someone calls and they need a big left off the bench, call me up. Along with anchor Craig Mish, Floyd interviewed Manager Fredi Gonzalez, pitches Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco and catcher John Baker for an episode of Miccosukee Sports Rap, which will run Friday night. “Just getting a taste of it, said Floyd, 37. “It’s totally different than anything I’ve ever done. Once you get your feet wet and start understanding how it goes, it becomes a cake walk. I like the challenge of fit. Floyd played outfield for the Marlins from 1997-2001. He was an All Star in 2001, when he hit .317 with 31 home runs and 103 RBI. Floyd played two games for the Padres last year after helping the Tampa Bay Rays go to the World Series in 2008. He said he’d need about two weeks to get back into shape. If he can’t a contract, he said he wouldn’t mind being a Marlins instructor. He said Gonzalez invited him to talk to players this season. But for now, he’s enjoying his first taste of broadcasting. “It’s fun, he said. “It’ll be a challenging thing as opposed to doing something I don’t want to do. I could be a janitor. Gonzalez couldn’t resist poking fun at Floyd over the large diamond-studded earings that Floyd bought after signing a Marlins contract while Gonzalez was a coach. “I’m still looking for those earings on the field, Gonzalez said. Floyd said: “I’m going to be calling you for some tickets, so don’t be looking at me phone number like you never seen it before. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2010/02/22/former-florida-marlins-all-star-cliff-floyd-to-make-his-tv-debut/
February 23, 201014 yr Called it I didn't blow up, I simply stated facts regarding Floyd and his war with the Marlins' front office since they took over. He blamed them for his bad knees, he blamed them for being cut in Boston, he referred to the franchise as bush and minor league that would never go anywhere without him, and told reporters he sat in Charles Johnson's house watching the WS and rooting against the Fish. It's fact, not a fabrication. Go through the archives here, it's no secret and well documented. There's an old saying about not worrying about things you can't control and that's how I feel about this. Not my call, but anyone who wants to ignore his statements from 2003-2008 is a fool for doing so. If the Marlins take him back, which I doubt, it will be an amazingly gracious and magnanimous act by ownership. It's their call not mine. And it's only my opinion, if I'm wrong no biggie. For the record until he turned his back on the franchise during his contract renewal negotiations which ultimately led to his trade to Montreal (and then Boston) I was as big a fan of his as anyone else on the team. As long as Tommy and Rich are on TV doing their thing I'm a happy guy and if FSN wants to plug him into their Miccosukee show I have no problem with that, they pay the bills not the Fish.
February 23, 201014 yr The Floyd/Wilson/Lee/Lowell years were the ones where I really became a Marlins fan. Cliff "The Big Fish" Floyd was always my favorite. I know he left on bad terms but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he acted like a spurred lover. I'll always like the guy

I'm not contesting it. I know. You just LOVE to dump on Floyd. Love the anger!
February 23, 201014 yr Not angry in the slightest Lou...I'm a lover not a fighter, as I said it not my call and whatever comes of it is cool with me. My point is simply that I don't see the Marlins putting coin in Cliffie's pocket.
February 23, 201014 yr You have to admit that if Floyd really was that abrasive all of these years, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Marlins to be hiring him. Why does Floyd blame the Marlins for his knees? Because they traded him back to Montreal?

Maybe that's why when I was 13 or 14 and went to see a Marlins/Mets game at Shea and shouted 'the Marlins still love you' to Floyd in right field, he gave me a terribly dirty look.

Wes Helms badmouthed the organization and the city after he left too and we traded for him as soon as we got him for the price of a McChicken. Let bygones be bygones.
February 23, 201014 yr Wes Helms badmouthed the organization and the city after he left too and we traded for him as soon as we got him for the price of a McChicken. Let bygones be bygones. I agree generally with your point, we all should live by that rule. But I don't think you can compare five years of bad-mouthing to Helms' comments, although to each his own. As I was getting at it's not our call and so whatever ownership decides is fine by me, I just doubt they are so thick-skinned as to forgive and forget. We'll see how it plays out. One thing about baseball, you're around the game long enough you learn how to get along and play as a team whether you like the guy you're turning a double play with or not. There's no rule that says everyone has to like everyone else, winning is what counts.
