There's nothing to lose, honestly. And if he tears up AAA, then there really aren't any more excuses to keep him down (holy cow, I can't believe I'm typing that in APRIL).

Yes, absolutely. The level of competition increases even if it's not as large of a jump from A ball to AA. He still strikes out a lot even if the power and walks are there. It's amazing what he is doing, but he is not yet a finished product and is still only 20 years old.

 

Just stay the course. There is no need to rush him despite the absolute tear he has been on for the last 48 hours.

Just let him get 200 at-bats at AA or atleast until the All-Star break before promoting him to AAA. Even if he is dominating and ends up with 30 HR's, the point of the at bats would be for him to work on lowering his SO rate. We all know he has the pop and improved walk rate but if you keep promoting him every time he dominates then it will become much harder to lower his SO's.

Hey everyone, sorry I was AWOL last week.

 

First off, I want to apologize to everyone that enjoys reading the DFR. Here's the scoop.

 

This is my final week of classes and then I have final exams next week. Then, the week after that, I'm leaving to go to Europe for a study abroad program I'm doing. I won't be back until early June. Brandon Tripp's having a nice start in the Suns outfield. Minor league player of the year back in '07 for Baltimore, though he's already 25 now. Wonder if he could still make a splash...

 

Slipped some in '08 and Baltimore released him, then Marlins picked him up & he had a better '09 in Jupiter.

 

So far hitting .340/.435/.604. The early BB/K numbers (7/11) are an improvement. Still early obviously.

I'm a big fan of Tripp. He was awesome in Jupiter last year too, though obviously age deal. He's good defensively, too. He could definitely be a future platoon player/big power lefty bat off the bench (He can't hit lefties at all). His problems with Baltimore was strike outs but those went way down last year and this year so far they aren't even a problem.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Marlins 1B prospect Logan Morrison will have an MRI this week on the shoulder he injured in a collision last Monday. Morrison was put on the DL on Saturday.

Is Osvaldo Martinez someone worth keeping an eye on? What's the story on him?

He was ranked #30 by BA. He's good defensively at SS, makes good contact, good/smart on the base paths, but doesn't walk and doesn't hit for power. Possible future bench player in the mold of Amezaga and such

Boy, everytime I look at those lines I see Sinkbeil giving up more runs. I'll look on the bright side- at least we have one less player to worry about protecting on the 40-man.
