I think we all want him to eventually hit 4th this year but, like Dim said, you gotta start him out a little farther back. Not just that but all I've heard from scouting reports is that he's okay out there. I'm not sure what he meant by taking the team's word for it either. The reason he was playing LF had nothing to do with his defense, it had to do with possibly replacing Chris Coghlan.

That is coming from Joe Frisaro, not the team directly. Sometimes you have to take some of the things ol' Frisaro says with a grain of salt. I think they're wondering how he would react playing against the Marlins former Teal Monster or the deep dimensions in RF if put there, but every scouting report out there and things Jim Fleming has said in the past (as well as his OF assist total) tend to show he has a very good arm and can hold his own in the outfield. I will give you that people do think he is "A BIT" stiff in RF sometimes, but that is probably partly a result of his young age and still adjusting to the park.

They're not calling him up to ride the pine, he starts right out the gates. That would be my thinking as well, but he's still seen as a defensive liability, which leads me to believe were gonna see him come Tampa Bay series. I don't think that's true. You better start thinking it's true, because you'll be hearing it everyday he plays here.

None taken, but if he isn't even the best defensive outfielder on a AA team (albeit a AA team that beat the fish) how can he be expected to overnight be a decent fielder in the bigs?
June 4, 201016 yr That argument makes no sense. Players aren't in AA because they're bad defensively. They're in AA because they can't hit worth sh*t. In fact, OFers tend to be better defensive players in the minors then in the majors (Mostly due to things like Adam Dunn and such playing OF in the majors, as well as playing CFers in corner spots more often in the minors). Hell, Greg Burns is now the Jacksonville starter CFer Greg Burns is very likely the best defensive player this organization currently holds, both minor and major leagues. His range v.s. BC's arm is certainly rather large contention.

None taken, but if he isn't even the best defensive outfielder on a AA team (albeit a AA team that beat the fish) how can he be expected to overnight be a decent fielder in the bigs? Well, that logic is entirely porous. Maybe the other guys are really good? I've never come across anything that didn't think he could be at least average in RF long-term. In fact, some reports have even said that he could still handle CF if needed.

Uggla will not be batting 7th and Gaby has warmed to the 2 spot so I can't imagine that they will tinker with him either. My BO would look like this. Cody and his career .325 .OBP in the 2 hole would not be a good idea. He belongs either in the middle of the order where he can drive in runs, or toward the bottom of the order. Basically, he belongs where he is, right now.
