July 5, 201016 yr So when my wife and I bought our home 5 years ago, she "gave" me the downstairs beadroom to use and decorate how I saw fit (in exchange for her getting the design decisions for the rest of the house). Well, I went full-on Marlins, painting the bottom 1/3 of the room teal, top 2/3 a nice, light silvery-grey and a black racing stripe all the way around separating the two. Quite striking looking, and isn't too dark because only the bottom part of the walls are teal. The rest of the room looks like Billy went and threw up memorabilia everywhere, with framed jerseys, balls, pictures, bobbleheads, posters and the like. No, I didn't go subtle, but this is where I go to watch the games and such (complete w/ minifridge stocked w/ beverages), so it's all good. Anyhoo, I have the opportunity to obtain an actual mounted, stuffed Marlin taxidermy for practically nothing (essentially, just shipping costs). The thing is like 8 feet long! Let's just say my wife is...less than thrilled at the prospect of having a dead fish hanging on the wall, and is drawing the line. My question for my fellow Marlins fanatics- is this going too far? Should I stick to just baseball Marlins stuff in there as opposed to real marlins? Since it's so big, it would completely dominate the largest wall in the room, so it probably is overdoing it, but I still think it would be exceedingly cool to have a real Marlin w/ the rest of my memorabilia. How do you think I should tackle this w/ Mrs. HawkFan?
July 5, 201016 yr I mean if it's "your" room it's your room right? Maybe you should kindly and tactfully remind her of that negotiation. Maybe you should offer her some kind of compromise or concession as in, "i know you don't like this but maybe we should take that trip you wanted to take/ get that cat you wanted/ go to that show you wanted to see/ purchase those absurdly expensive curtain rods you want." Something like that. But definitely, definitely get that marlin.
July 5, 201016 yr If it's really your room I don't see where the issue is. Though obviously that's not the way real life works. I'd try to convince her to let the Marlin come in but if she has a real problem you might as well just let it go. Though it's nice to know someone else here has a Marlins room (though mine is my living room).
July 5, 201016 yr This thread really needs pictures. Im interested in seeing what the room looks like.

Already have the teal walls w/white molding and I installed wood flooring. Made my own picture frames for those "posters" given away at games in 2004. Now I'm in the process of making oak shelving. A stuffed marlin is a little much, IMO, but to each his own.
July 5, 201016 yr Having met your folks I'm sure your parents would keep it for you and let you visit it. Tough call if its your Man Cave she really can't complain too much, if its a common room shared by all you have to probably give on this one, sorry
July 5, 201016 yr I personally love the idea cause I think the Marlin is a beautiful animal, regardless of its connections to our baseball team. Try and push for it, maybe insist that you caught it on that last fishing trip you went on :thumbup But seriously, I'd push the fat that its "your" room... thats your best bet... dont try and stick in the kitchen. Good luck! And get us pics of that room!
July 5, 201016 yr I personally would not want anything stuffed hanging on my walls but I would not care since you guys had a deal. See if she would allow it if you take her somewhere nice. If not, just let it go. Good luck!
July 6, 201016 yr Author After 7 years of mariage, I definitely know when to stand my ground on something and when not to. After having another conversation about the fish, I realized this is not one of those! Even though we had a "deal," yeah....it's not worth it. Actually, she said she'd rather go down for another series than we had planned for this year than have a dead fish hanging on the wall. I went ahead and took her up on that offer, as it's a win-win! Besides, she had a really good point I'd have to take down a lot of the memorabilia I already have up to fit the darn thing, and I'd rather not do that. Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I'll see if I can get some picks of my den soon, but right now it's serving as a temporary storage room as we get soem other work done around the house. Rabb, Bob- Also glad to know to there are others out there with similar furnishings. We should pool some pictures together and everytime someone in the media writes a crap sotry about the MArlins not having a fanbase, we e-mail them with evidence to the contrary.
July 6, 201016 yr Ctina2277 and I have the whole apartment decked out in Marlins memorbilia, though I'm going to have to agree with the Mrs. and Squall on this one--Hanging essentially your dead mascot has got to be some kind of bad karma. I think we should all post our Marlins rooms! Broncobob: Your place sounds like it's coming out great!

My room isn't done yet. But hopefully will be by the next home stand. Corner shelving is taking alot longer than I expected. Went shopping for some and couldn't find a damn thing I liked, so decided to build my own. Also building my own coffee table and end tables so everything will match. Know what you mean about the temp storage thing. My office is that right now until I get this room done. We tossed a queen sized bed from that room and bought a sofa bed instead. When I got home the day of delivery it was sitting in the middle of the living room. The guys couldn't get it through the door. I had to remove the entire frame from the wall and the legs from the sofa to get it in. Still a tight squeeze. The wife asked what if we still couldn't get it in. I said no prob, I just cut a bigger hole in the wall and run to Home Depot for another door and frame. The sofa was too expensive, it was going in there!! Talk about poor planning. LOL

HAHA, I feel the same way about our season.
