Buck is a more powerful version of Paulino offensively with as bad or worse defensive ability. Paulino will be released or traded and our back up until Baker gets healthy will be between Davis and Hayes most likely.

Either way, he loves the Buck. He's not saying something we dont know. John Baker had TJ surgery. He's not going to be catching. I will refrain from the snide comment. It's hard, but I'll refrain.

I've never really watched Buck play, and I'm not into defensive stats. So to me this is a wait and see thing. And I know the rumor is that they are upset with the suspension of Ronnie. But this team has shown remarkable patience with drug related suspensions in the past, and with giving players second chances. I don't know if they will look at things this way with Ronnie, I'm just throwing that out there.

(+1.5 runs) In the article he grades pooly on WP, PB and CS but does well on Errors and we know all about Errors. On baseball-reference he averaged a -4.5 in Rdrs and Rtot. I'll go with the -4.5.
November 21, 201015 yr Even with the -4.5, even we give credit to what Kevin Gregg said about him being great @ handling a pitching staff, he could be at least an average defensive catcher. And given the dearth of offense available from the catcher position today, he could very well be above-average overall.

From what I read it wasn't a performance enhancing supplement, it was a dietary one. And given Ronnie's size and constant overuse, I find that at least more believable.

I am jumping to a conclusion - that's all any of us can do - but sadly I think it's the right one. I like Ronnie as a player and I'd like to believe him, but it's a case of "That's what they all say" and I'm very skeptical. I do hope the Marlins bring him back but I'll be surprised if they do.

The actual substance was never disclosed but it could have easily been something that contained bumetanide, which is a diuretic found in banned (by leagues) weight loss/dietary drugs. Professional athletes use this to mask performance enhancing drugs by increasing the possibility of a negative urine test. We don't know for sure, but Ronnie's excuse is just as believable as Manny's was when he got caught taking women fertility drugs. No, he wasn't caught with a PED proper, but these drugs are banned for a reason because they often signify PED use.

Good thing they decided to bring in John Buck to fulfill this mantra..who was ranked second last (before Ramon Hernandez) in ML catcher defense. I guess they really take "pitching, defense, speed" very seriously.
