I might ask for this as a holiday present. Which do you guys think is better?

Things that matter to me:

1) Sports games

2) Platform-specific games that each one has/doesn't have

3) MLB.tv capabilities

4) Anything else, like web-surfing and Netflix experiences

Thanks!

If sports gaming is your top priority, PS3 is the ideal choice because MLB The Show (exclusive to PS3) is worlds better than any other baseball video game out there. As for the other sports games, i.e. Madden, NCAA Football & Hoops, etc.,...they can be bought with either system. Other benefits exclusive to the PS3: built-in Blu-Ray player, built-in wireless, and free online gameplay.

Xbox 360, solely for the reason that we can be XBOX LIVE BUDDIES 4EVER!!!!!

2 equally well-reasoned and compelling arguments :mis2

PS3 iz da best

Yeah, or be friends with me.

I prefer Xbox personally. Live, while not free, is better than PSN in terms of stability and community. The only thing I'm jealous of the PS3 is The Show.

Yeah man if you want it for sports definitely get the PS3 because of the MLB the show, and then every other sports game is available both ways.

outside of sports then, are there any top games or game genres where XBox gets the edge?

I'm getting a Wii for my 4 year-old, so there's that...

PS3. In my opinion, it's a more refined experience. And then there's MLB The Show

360 IMO

Wouldnt see a point of getting PS3 just for the show...

Thanks for all the info, everyone.

I shoulda made a poll.

As opposed to just what? An xbox? Get outa here man.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. With Live, you get what you pay for. The 360 is also better with media connectivity and has a much nicer UI in my opinion. I like the controller better as well.

On the PS3 side, there's The Show and the Blu-ray capabilities.

(I have them both for the record.)

Believe it or not, I did.

Thanks, all!!!

I'll stick with my PC thank you very much. I'm not paying 4-500 bucks for a new console every 5 years when I can just upgrade my PC for $2-300. Also, PC graphics are superior to consoles.

PS3. mlb the show and free online play. what else do you need

I want to get a PS3 just for the Show...

... and Gran Turismo 5 looks pretty good too.

Two thumbs down at this comment, good sir.

7th gen consoles have the power to match or beat computers on the 900+ scale for standard computers. Kicking up your graphics card, video card, sound card, your processor, and your RAM will cost you more than $200-300.

PCs will always have the ability to outperform a console, but for the price a console is far superior. If you're a fan of the modding community, of course a PC will surpass a console. Anything other than that, you're wasting your time.

360 vs. PS3? I wrote a review on it here before I left for Boston but apparently it didnt get posted. Long story short, an XBOX 360 is a superior console when you take into consideration the performance, game selection, and online community. If you're looking for a specific game however, such as GT5 or The Show, you're clearly looking at a PS3.

I was actually wondering when you'd chime in. Thanks for the input.

I picked up a copy of GT5 yesterday.

Two words: Ree. Diculous!

No problem.

If you want a little bit more in depth, PS3's have better specs, but seem to perform on a lower level when going head-to-head with the 360's. If money's not a huge issue, the XBOX community is hands down far more superior than PS3, even though PS3 offers theirs for free.

Honestly though, there's no point in siting here and debating the two systems. It's the games you want, not the systems. They're both top of the line technology. If you're trying to decide between COD, Fallout, GTAIV, etc. and all of the other 2-console games, then a 360 is simply better because of the online interaction and the slightly better preformance in picture quality. Though other than that, the real decision to make is Halo, Gears of War, and all of the XBOX exclusives, or GT5, The Show, and all of the PS3 exclusives?

The good Doctor has spoken.

Slightly off-topic

It's funny, because while I think GT5 is the better game, I think Forza 3 has the better mechanics. GT has always had a problem with oversteer that really bothered me (and many others).
