Osama Bin Laden is Dead

Just saying that your habit of feverishly arguing things that don't need to be argued is becoming tiresome. I can't even remember the last time we had a thread locked in the Bull Pen.

Considering it was one thread, and it takes two to tango, I don't know why you'd single me out on that one. And for the record, before it was locked we handled it like big boys in PM, so the lock was unnecessary.

And, feverishly arguing things? I'm pretty sure that was the only thing that I've gone in depth with for quite some time.

f*** YEEEAAHHH!!! i'll take any reason to spontaneously party in the street with five thousand strangers!!!! Open container laws be damned

A couple of things i would like to say.

I do not consider this "justice" as Obama said. There was no justice at all.

There are international courts, for example. where he could have been taken. It may take longer, months, years. But, that's justice.

Also, in Guantamo there is no justice. I read that Obama tried to send the prisoners to Argentina, Brazil and Chile. None of those countries accepted their offer because there are no proofs against those prisoners. They do not have the rights to get a lawyer and so on.

And finally, I would like to compare some things that have happened in South America to those people celebrating on the White House and Central Park.

During the 70's and early 80's many South American countries have suffered right-wing military dictatorships that have overthrown legitimate presidents -some of them left-wing like Allende in Chile-.

Those dictatorship killed, tortured and started what we may say, civil wars in these countries. Time has passed and some of those dictators are being jailed right now. We waited long enough until the judicial branch found them guilty of killing many people. At that time is when we go and celebrate on the streets. After the court decided it. That's why I don't like that much of those celebrations I'm seeing on TV right now. I don't consider it fair.

Even though I know the US did not sign the Pact of San José which abolish capital punishment in peace time. It's still an core declaration of that type of ideology that surrounds American foreign policy.

I know I mixed many things, but as a whole they show what I'm trying to express.

edit: I forgot to add that three grandsons have been killed together with Osama. Well, "collateral damage". pffff.

I think you have a very cute take on South America.

Sometimes, I think the mindset of this country is too "politically correct."

I think it's way too easy for you to say that and get away without expanding on it.

What do you mean?

So am I the only one a little worried here? We may have killed Osama, and that's great don't get me wrong..but he's just one in the thousands or millions of terrorists out there. I'm a bit worried that they'll want revenge and they're plotting right now an attack against us. Seriously..he was treated like a king and you don't just kill a guy like that and get away without causing more problems.

You arent the only one. It was the 2nd thing I thought of. They already announced retaliation on the pakistan gov and say we are 2nd in line. So if something big happens similar to 9/11...what happens after? Cant hunt down every terrorist. Scary stuff.

Yeah, and he was getting too old anyway. There must be more "top-ranking" al-Qaeda members that were ready in case he did die. So really we can celebrate the fact that there was some kind of "justice" (I know I'm asking for it using that word heh) that we found him finally and killed him, however in the end it probably didn't do that much good. I don't want to sound like a doom-and-gloom person or to lessen the achievement our troops made here. Thank god for them and everything but really it's like finding a cure to a virus that just happens to be one out of a million other types. Now we just need to start on another cure..

On a more serious note, Obama is going to benefit huge politically because of this. I bet his approval rating goes over 60% in the next week.

What makes it so redeeming is that he appears to have gone down in a rage of gunfire instead of something anti-climatic like kidney failure.

Absolutely.

For some reason, I find it kind of unsettling to see so many people celebrating someone's death. Maybe it's normal, but it's the first time I've experienced it.

... guessing you probably missed those videos of people dancing in the streets when the twin towers collapsed?

No, that's exactly why it's unsettling. Look at the videos of the people outside the White House. It reminds me of just that.

Oh sure, I understand. Don't like to see us behaving that way. Want to hold us to a higher standard, I totally get it.

I'm very happy about this. I am not dancing in the streets about it, but pretty damn satisfying.

Osama Bin Laden's people killed thousands of civilians.

Here, American forces killed, allegedly, 1 civilian, and also killed the man who was the most responsible for the thousands of innocent deaths.

absolutely. we've been waiting a decade for this.

literally the second Obama's speech ended last night, boom the power went out in my neighborhood. :lol

now THATS some scary stuff right there...

I disagree with the opinions you have formed but I'll skip that for now because we're not getting anywhere there.

I haven't seen anything about grandsons with Osama. It did say one of his adult sons died in the firefight.

You're probably confusing this all with Gadafi's son, where the (always reputable) Libyan government run media said that NATO (most likely done by the British and French) killed Gadafi's most low-profile son and 3 unnamed young grandchildren. They haven't tried to prove the validity of this statement have NATO or the British been able to find evidence of their deaths.

While, I'm not ruling out ideology, it's more than likely a typo, I wouldn't read much in to it.

Because the B button on the keyboard is so close to the S button.

My only regret is that this didn't happen a few days ago so that we didn't have to hear about that bulls*** royal wedding that nobody cares about.

every female in the united states would like a word with you.

I'd rather turn gay than watch one second of that bulls***. Unfortunately, then I would probably have interest in it, which sort of defeats the purpose.

Watching the bridesmaid was a perfectly viable reason to tune in.....

Have you ever typed anything in a huge f'n hurry? no? then you can't possibly understand how easy it is to make such an error, especially when the names are similar like that...quit looking for a conspiracy.

I will double check my source, if I'm wrong, my bad that I mixed two news together.
