6/5 Post Game

Will Edwin do a big shake-up tomorrow? It's sad that we don't have a lead-off hitter who can hit for good average and steal bases. The running game is pretty much non-existent (stealing bases / hit-n-run)... I like Omar better in the 8 spot.

I'm not even mad, this team f***ing sucks as of late. Not clutch. Edwin needs to chew this team the f*** out closed door meetign style. Lose two games this series alone with bases loaded bottom 9th. f*** mcf***ing nuggets.

Also, I wanna high five Hayes for that Grand Slam. Other than that, the rest of the offense can be left hanging waiting for a high five from me...:banghead And I know Gaby drove in a run, but he choked bottom 9th.

I guess I should have asked "What kind of shake-up will Edwin do"? Options are limited. We have no real lead-off hitter. Coghlan right now would be a bench player on other teams. Omar doesnt cut it as number two hitter. Logan is slumping. Gaby stays 4th I think. Does Stanton move? Where do you put Buck?

Thinking ahead, what type of deals / moves do we need to get help? This team needs a spark. What would you do if you could wheel and deal? Include Coghlan (or demote him to bench) in a deal to somehow get a proven speedy CFer who hits .285 every year and steals a lot of bases? Get a proven starter to replace Volstad? Would it be a lefty to break up the right handers? If the Mariners are sellers, would someone like Bedard work? These ideas are just thrown in here to generate discussion, I honestly don't have a clue who we should get / call up to improve this team down the stretch.... I think adding some speed and improving the running game to steal / hit and run / put runners in motion might help generate some runs but at the end of the day, the big bats have to stop choking when the runners get to 3rd with less than 2 outs

I don't really want to talk about the game but it's time for a meeting at least what's with this team and not being able to put their foot down, especially late. The only thing I can point to is that most of the team is young. I will say I wouldn't want anyone else up in that spot more than Gaby except maybe Dobbs, and we still can't get it done, unbelievable. /vent off

Just an off the top of my head reaction... it might be too big of a shakeup though...

Boni

Infante

Sanchez

Stanton

Dobbs

Morrison

Buck

Coghlan

Vazquez

Maybe Dobbs before Stanton? Anything right now sounds good though

They have won 1 game since hanley left.

What is it with you and Hanley, Hanley is 1 player on a team a player that wasn't performing at his capable level other than a few hits and walks here and there. We were winning games without Hanley performing so stop using that excuse.

I keep saying, this team is young and we are gonna see the inexperience in some of these losses this year, when this team is a few years older and not making rookie mistakes, this will be a tougher team

I think he's more talking about something like Edwin said:

"Even when Hanley isn't hitting, his presence in the lineup makes a difference -- because he can get on base, steal bases, make things happen," Rodriguez said.

I still think the lineup will be fine. If anything, I'd like a better 3B to put Dobbs back on the bench. Coghlan isn't hitting right now, but he's been a better hitter than this in the past. Even if he continues to suck, he's at least doing fine, defensively. There aren't many good CF'ers in the big leagues, so it's pointless to search for that. It's almost impossible to get a sure upgrade at the position. Coghlan is still young and hopefully becomes a core player on this team.

Hanley being Hanley (as even he would say) would make this lineup look a lot better.

As for trades, I'd like a LHP SP. I don't like Bedard though because he's injury prone.

They might try to upgrade the bullpen. I wouldn't mind that at this point, either.

A lot of wasted opportunities in this series. As Frisaro (or Capozzi, I forget) pointed out on Twitter, the Marlins have had a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th every game this weekend, and we kept failing to score.

I knew as soon as we squandered that bases loaded, 1 out situation in the 9th that it was over. It's hard to come back from that.

I think the absence of Josh Johnson is hurting this team more than Hanley's absence. It's not like he was really contributing to begin with. Johnson, on the other hand, was nearly automatic.

This is true it's bound to happen with young players hell, how can we get pissed at Stanton for some of this, he is only 21 years old. Imagine how good this team could be in a few years, better yet imagine next year, when we don't play in the worst stadium in the league and probably play in one of the best. Then if we lock some of these guys up, preferably Stanton, LoMo and Gaby, all those guys are impressive, even through the slide I think those are the guys you want to lock up. Speaking of Stanton I caught a ball on the fly he hit into the 2nd deck during BP today and he hit a few to the upper deck after that as well, man is insane.

Well, I would agree in the bold part Hanley was at least getting on base, his OBP is probably a little lower than usual but it's probably not putrid. I just don't agree with saying he is the only reason why we are losing because we were losing with him in the lineup he went 0-6 in one of those games, which is kind of a microcosm of his season so far. I would imagine the pitchers would have been a little more careful with him, hell maybe we would have won a few of these games if it was him batting instead of Boni, I can see that.

Btw, Boni is a utility player used sparingly at best, obviously we don't have any other choice right now but now that his numbers have deflated to what he really is. I know nothing about the Hanley injury right now which I will have to go through the forums to find out. (I was in Miami for the 2 middle games, and I stayed somewhat disconnected, I don't even know about JJ.)

Sun Life Stadium blows, almost everything about it... I won't vent here but it sucks and I am so thankful we are getting a new ballpark.

Um. Its pretty obvious what's wrong. We don't need to make any major trades. Not worth it. The talent is there. Its a young team. They will give it time. Just ike four years ago. They gave that core time. Same for this team. We NEED hanley, JJ, and Stanton play like all-stars to win it. The end.

Hayes better get more starts now. That's all.

I agree, is Hayes capable of playing every day? I mean i know he has good numbers this year, but obviously he doesn't start every day.

Him not playing kills the bench. Jj not starting as kills the bp. Its these 2 things that hurt. Ive said it in a few different posts. Go lookup the marlins record since jj stopped starting if you want. We already know our record since hanley stopped.

This team isnt going to play .500 baseball between now (when hanley stopped starting) and the asb. Im willing to be we lose a sh*tload of games. Bullpen is going to continue to be overworked. Weak bench. Vazquez/volstad are the 3rd and 4th starters now...yikes.

The schedule is just too tough for a team missing these guys.

I hope you eventually see that what you are saying is ridiculous about the team not being able to play .500 baseball without Hanley and JJ.

Someone else back me up on this please? Anyone?

The team was 7-5 without JJ before this slide so yea a couple games under .500 without both, isn't too off considering in reality we could have won all 4 of these games. (Thats baseball)

Now don't get me wrong I understand what you are saying about the (pitching) not really the (batting, considering we don't have much of a bench to begin with, unless you are just considering "Boni" our bench) other than that I don't see how it effects our bench negatively not having Hanley in the lineup.

Not having our ace is tough, and pitching is more important than batting, imo. (Discussion for another day)

Yes it hurts not having Hanley and JJ but no reason to assume, this team can't play .500 baseball considering we were 10 games over just a few games ago, with Hanley not doing what he normally does.

Are we just supposed to assume a loss on Tuesday with Hand starting, I mean that is in essence what you are saying is that we can't win a (minor league/pen) game which we are actually 1-1 so far, in that category.

Once again though I will just sit on the fact that baseball is a team sport not an individual sport.

This is definitely a sub-.500 team without Hanley and JJ. Sorry GFGM, but I totally disagree with you.

They are maybe a mid-to-high 80's team with them playing well, and JJ and Hanley are worth 12+ Wins Above Replacement. Unless everything went right, they are AT BEST an 80-81 win team without those 2, and more like a 70-75 win team.

Folks, I understand lately we haven't been clutch with RISP situations but I think the real problem here is the shitacular pitching we've had as of late. We've given up about 2+ HR's a game. Nolasco has had 2 sh*t starts and Anibal has one now, our bullpen has been horrific as of late. I now know why Dunn rhymes with HOMERUN....I don't even wanna see him unless we have a 5 run lead now. Its ridiculous how now that Javi is pitching better everyone else is pitching worse. The only bright spot we've had pitching has been Cishek, lets hope Javi is the good Javi tomorrow.

We also forget how young this team is. I dont like making excuses, but its hard to rely on a team filled with so many inexperienced players.

I now know why Dunn rhymes with HOMERUN....I don't even wanna see him unless we have a 5 run lead now.

He got outs on 6 of 7 batters he faced. He did fine, the homer was a fluke. Relax.

Yes the pitching is starting to suck more, and I agree it looks as though everything got reversed (Vazquez, rest of the pitching)

I was at the game Dunn looked good until he got to Wilson, I thought it was odd Wilson didn't swing and strikeout on Dunn's 2nd to last pitch, he was waiting for his pitch and he got it.

Cishek has looked good, I agree.

I'm optimistic as always and a realist, but it's going to be tough sledding for a while.
