"One prominent player, though, refused to comment. Hanley Ramirez, who not only is failing at the plate - he is now hitting .201 after going 0-for-3 Sunday - but has failed in his attempt to become a leader.

At least one player outwardly expressed his disdain for Ramirez ducking reporters on Sunday."

Honestly I feel bad for the guy... what is he supposed to do? Say the same old sh*t to the media?

He's failing. We know. I'd be more pissed off if he came up with the same crap every week to the media saying "I gotta do better".

Don't get me wrong, he's pissing me off. But still, I'd rather him not talk to the media.

Actually, like Dr. B, I agree that I like it better when he doesn't talk.

I don't understand why the other players have a problem with it. Probably because they just have a problem with him in general.

Regardless, everything that comes out of his mouth is stupid, anyway. That becomes really annoying when you're hitting .201. So I think it's cool that he wants to be quiet now. It's a lot better than hearing his egotistical end of May predictions. The way he's going, he might not hit 7 HR's this year, much less by the end of May.

Oh geez, Hanley and Jack sounds like a bad idea but I wish the media would get off Hanley's back. Who f'n says he even has to be a leader. To me, Hanley's just a quiet guy. Where is it written in his contract that he has to lead this team off the field? If he goes back to hitting over .300, that's enough leadership for me. Leave him alone.

Ain't that the truth. Hanley on Edwin's managerial future 3 days before he went *poof*:

He's going to be here forever. I'm on his side. I've got his back to the death.

:lol

Which demonstrates a few things about Hanley.

1) He has little comprehension of how often managers turn over even though he's experienced it here.

2) He doesn't know what "forever" means, and that the only tenure that actually approached it was Connie Mack's 50 years in Philly from '01 to '51, retiring at age 87 (the only manager older than Jack, assuming he takes the job.)

3) He thinks that his imprimatur actually means something.

4) He's better off when he keeps his mouth shut.

Nope. Probably because he knew he was supposed to be a leader, accepted that role publicly, and has failed both on the field and in the club house.

He's not going to respect Jack because he never played in the big leagues.

This should be very interesting to watch unfold.

Hanley thinks Edwin was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Edwin played exactly 54 innings of MLB with 25 PAs, hitting .227 while fielding .938. Very current-Hanley-like numbers. The sort of thing that would get you sent down if you were a 1st or 2nd-year player or released as a super-annuated veteran if you're anyone other than Wes Helms.

Hanley is a demonstrated non-leader after, lo, these 6 years of waiting and hearing how he would become one.

Jack played 10 minor league seasons with 2,800 ABs. He was a catcher and hit only .210. He's managed 4,652 MiLB and MLB games. He's 1011-940 in MLB. He has 43 years of pro baseball experience, 21 at the MLB level. Jack managed a WS win. Jack had been managing for 27 years when Hanley was born.

If Hanley is smart he'll shut up and listen.

Becauseeeee when he opens his mouth, he is clearly less intelligent than we all give him credit for, was it him and Cogs who claimed they would get their BA's up and are clearly the most slumping players on the team right now, stfu.

He should talk to the media in spanish.

This team is not meshing, going to go scan LoMo's tweets for Haney hate.

We're basically saying the same thing.

On the Lebatard show they said Jack just benched hanley for tonight.

Jack said he didn't like how Hanley was running yesterday. Good thing someone in the organization noticed. Hanley looks injured to me. But he says he's healthy. I don't believe him.

According to the Palm Beach Post he benched Hanley because he was late for the team meeting. The line about not running well was a decoy.

There has been a lot of bitching about Hanley not becoming the leader he said he would. Why did anyone think that becoming a leader was as easy as just deciding to do it? That's rare just about anywhere in life, no matter how much skill or talent someone has. Hanley was too young and inexperienced to know that. Others should have known better.
