Marlins Trade Deadline Thread

Featured Replies

I guess Boni to second and Dobbs/helms at third if it happens. These last two games I felt like were the barometer for the rest of the season. We aren't even close to the braves.

i was watching mlb network and harold reynolds really likes that we didn't trade away pieces. we're a couple of signings away from competing and we actually might be competing this season if it wasn't for one horrible month and jj's injury. also joe frisaro says that infante plans on staying with the marlins beyond this year, hopefully he doesnt ask for a uggla-type contract

There is no way in hell Infante can ask for anything resembling a Uggla-type contract. His career numbers aren't that good and he's having a mediocre 2011 season.

I'd prefer that they move Bonifacio to second and then go out and try to find a legitimate CFer.

Yeah, there's a small passage up on the official website where Infante says that he wants to stay. He also says he would rather play just one position and other stuff is in there.

Harold Reynolds has always been nice and complimentary about the Marlins everytime I see him. He has said that they're one of his favorite teams, but maybe he says that about others. I always wondered how he and Kruk really got along on Baseball Tonight, they seemed snarly at each other, but maybe that was just the design.

I agree with this. We would probably need another utility guy if Bonifacio starts at 2B, but Infante probably will cost too much to fill that role here.

Why would Omar ask for an Uggla type contract?? I don't believe he's that dumb to think he's worth anywhere near that.

Especially when you consider Uggla wasn't worth anywhere near that :lol

NUNEZ "DEALT"!!!

It was well past the 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline, but that didn't occur to Leo Nunez. He had just recorded the third out in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Braves to tally his 30th save.

Imagine Nunez's surprise when manager Jack McKeon summoned him into his office after the game, wished him luck, and told him he'd been traded to the Cubs.

"I said, 'OK,' then everybody was laughing and I realized it was a joke," said Nunez, who joined Robb Nen as the only closers in club history with multiple 30-plus save seasons. "I'm here until the Marlins want. My desire is to stay here, but those are decisions the bosses make. I'd like to stay here. I feel good and have confidence with all my teammates."

Nunez's name was out there, but the Marlins ultimately decided with no heir apparent just yet they were better off keeping him. Nunez and everyone else stayed put as the deadline came and went quietly for the Marlins."

We were interested in adding to this team, not taking away," President of Baseball Operations Admin Beinfest said. "We were interested in only non-rental players we could keep this year and at a minimum into next year to help this team continue to grow and win games, and build momentum heading into the new building.

"There were a number of different things we got involved in and came our way, and it didn't happen. That doesn't mean it may not happen in the future. It's just not going to happen before we need waivers."

Beinfest added that he didn't feel the state of the Marlins' farm system precluded him from making deals. Most of the organization's high-ceiling prospects are at the lower levels. In many cases, teams in rebuilding mode are seeking major league-ready talent, arms especially.

"We are thinned out," Beinfest said. "We do have a bunch of guys in the big leagues. You can always move parts off your big league team if it works in the total picture. We talked about pieces that are on the current team. We talked about some of our lower level minor-leaguers and we talked about some of our upper level minor-leaguers. It's a mix and match.

"I never really felt handicapped, but we always put a value on the player and how it's going to look in the big picture with payroll allocation and moving forward, and you try to figure out what your limits are. We weren't able to get anywhere in terms of matching up on value."

Doesn't matter, you're a free agent at the end of the season anyway, and I've been hearing rumors that Admin has been in talks to bring in an all star poster from Braves-Nation.com to replace you DB.

I was actually watching that segment to but I cant find it anywhere online. Can someone please help me out? I want to quote it in a new article I'm working on. I can always paraphrase it, but I'm trying to fool people into thinking that they're reading a professional article.

i didn't mean uggla's contract literally. i meant that i hope omar doesn't overvalues himself and believe that he deserves a longterm deal that goes into his mid 30s.
