September 14, 201114 yr While talking to Jorge Sedano on 790 this morning, Beinfest explained that he would not elaborate on Cameron's release, but that it was a result of "conduct detrimental to the team." WOW. Obviously all I see is from the stands/tv, but this is totally unexpected. :o
September 14, 201114 yr So...the braves release Wes Helms; they're a model franchise. We release Mike Cameron; we're a bunch of jerks that nobody will ever sign with. Got it! Helms requested his release. But feel free to continue your schtick. Helms did????
September 14, 201114 yr There is no way in hell that Helms requested his own release. There is nothing out there to support that. It's purely made up. I am completely baffled that people are rallying to defend Mike Cameron, a guy who probably shouldn't have been acquired in the first place, and sucked for pretty much the whole time he was here. The Marlins gave him a legitimate shot (when they probably should have) to succeed and he failed to perform. There's no reason to be shedding any tears for Mike Cameron.

We are talking about his release from the Marlins.

September 14, 201114 yr My mistake. I thought the discussion was about the Marlins releasing him. Sorry.
September 14, 201114 yr It's a big deal because the Marlins are getting a reputation as a team that treats its players like crap. You don't think players from around the league take note of what happens here? Free agents are going to think twice before signing. Getting that reputation? That reputation has been here for a while now. It's why guys like Dan Uggla don't give us a discount to sign long-term. MLB is a business, but the Marlins handle their players and staff with little dignity, and worst of all, aren't even successful as a business or a baseball team to show for it. That must be why Hanley gave us a discount.

September 14, 201114 yr Good thing they released him for being detrimental "He's a pro, no question about it," McKeon said. "Here is a guy who has a great work ethic. He tried to help some of these young kids. I was fortunate to have him in Cincinnati. If they [young players] look the way he went about his work, they would learn something."
September 14, 201114 yr The Marlins cut outfielder Mike Cameron late Monday night for conduct detrimental to the team. Two sources on Wednesday gave the reason: Cameron got into a verbal altercation with a flight attendant on the team's charter flight from Pittsburgh to Atlanta on Sunday. The altercation did not turn physical, but the charter company filed a complaint. The Marlins' front office believed it could not keep Cameron after the incident. He wasn't in the team's longterm plans, anyway, and his release gives the Marlins a chance to give Bryan Peterson (.280) more at-bats over the final two weeks of the season. Cameron was hitting .238. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/2011/09/umncaa-investigation-update-plus-dolphins-heat-marlins.html
September 14, 201114 yr I don't know, I think a guy who has had a "solid" and "professional" career should be allowed to go off on flight attendants. The Marlins look weak for getting in the way of that.
September 14, 201114 yr I think 2011 is definitely more f***ed up than 2005 was. We had higher expectations for 05, I think.
September 14, 201114 yr I think this doesn't matter. I think that it doesn't matter that you think it doesn't matter because it obviously matters because without Mike Cameron, we are not making the post season! Come back to me in 2 weeks and tell me we made the post season, then I will admit that this move made no difference. THE SKY IS FALLING! MIKE CAMERON ANNOYED SOMEBODY AND GOT FIRED!!!!!
September 14, 201114 yr I think this doesn't matter. Except that now Albert Pujols DEFINITELY isn't signing with us.
September 14, 201114 yr I think 2011 is definitely more f***ed up than 2005 was. We had higher expectations for 05, I think. Expectations were certainly higher in 2005, but I think the margin this season between expectation and performance might be just as wide. However, I'm mostly speaking toward how bizarre this season's been with the losing streaks, injuries, Hanley slumping, Edwin/Jack, Morrison stuff, etc. This has been a pretty pathetic season.

At least we still have Donnie Murphy and Jose Lopez.
September 14, 201114 yr "@JCRMarlinsbeat: Problem on team charter with flight attendant RT @palmbchbaseball Any news on what the "detrimental conduct" w/ Cameron was?" If he got into it with a flight attendant, that could bring lawsuits if the team didn't act decisively.
