September 13, 201114 yr I am still very confused and angry about his release. ??? He's not a good player, and this team is going nowhere. Who gives a hoot?
September 13, 201114 yr it just doesnt make sense. he played hard and decently for us so if conduct detrimental to the team is talking about retirement that is a joke.
September 13, 201114 yr Makes perfect sense. He just started jabbering publicly about retiring a day or two ago and his production wasn't worth writing home about, slight injury or not. Every guy on the roster costs money, no sense wasting it on someone like Cameron. But didn't they bring him in for his "professionalism" ? Surprising if that was the case.
September 13, 201114 yr Wow This move is beyond ridiculous. What the hell is the front office doing? He has been hitting lately and is a respected veteran. You dont do that to a guy that has been in the league for over 15 years with 2 weeks left. I cannot stand our front office + Loria and Samson. Stupid move and very unprofessional It adds to the already bad impression many players already have about the Marlins.
September 13, 201114 yr While talking to Jorge Sedano on 790 this morning, Beinfest explained that he would not elaborate on Cameron's release, but that it was a result of "conduct detrimental to the team." :eyebrow He's always been regarded as a great teammate. Strange since they brought him in here and bragged about his "professionalism" and the way "he can conduct himself". Just weird, but that falls in line with what this team does often.
September 13, 201114 yr Who cares? The season is shot and there aren't many games left. He's not part of the future, which means he was just taking up space. I want guys like Dominguez, Coghlan, Bonifacio, and Petersen starting over Lopez, Murphy, and Cameron.

Oh I agree, but he was okay to be on the bench - he must have said something that rubbed the FO the wrong way, and I don't think it was about retiring.
September 13, 201114 yr I doubt it was because he "said something." He outlived his purpose. There's no need for him to be around. He's supposedly been having hamstring problems recently too. Why should the Marlins have to worry about all of that? I think the hamstring is probably the dealbreaker.

Why should the Marlins have to worry about all of that? I think the hamstring is probably the dealbreaker. If that's the case then why bring up conduct? If they just wanted to release him due to injuries so they could play younger guys, release him and say that. Like it's been said, when you bring up the conduct issue and refuse to comment on anything else with a player touted for his professionalism and leadership, your kinda leaving yourself open for criticism. This is not, for example Logan morrison, someone that you might not need to elaborate on due to his past issues but when you have a player of Camerons stature and reputation, its just unusual. He was talking about wanting to play the atlanta series so his family could see him before he retires, and gets cut after one pinch hit game. Yeah, who cares that he was cut in the end it's probably for the better but personally I'm getting tired of seeing these conduct issues all year. Just my thoughts.
September 13, 201114 yr Who brought up conduct? Maybe I'm missing something. Edit: Nevermind, I just saw the post on the other page. Yeah, it's strange, but I don't necessarily think that Beinfest needs to elaborate more especially since Cameron didn't have much of a role on the team anyway.
September 13, 201114 yr If he's bringing up conduct even as microscopic as this... It's likely because he's sending the message... the front office is in charge Logan Morrison/Dan Uggla/Wes Helms/Mike Cameron/all of you delinquents. Really... who gives a rats ass. Are we really worried about winning at this point?
September 13, 201114 yr It's not that fact that we are out of it and that we need to play younger guys. All of you saying that who cares if Cameron got release are sounding idiotic. If you dont want to play the guy, just sit him in the bench but dont cut him with two weeks left. Especially to a guy wIth Cameron's career numbers. This is just making the front office look weak.
September 13, 201114 yr Ever think that maybe you sound idiotic? What reason is there to hold onto Cameron? Is it that a big deal?
September 14, 201114 yr It's a big deal because the Marlins are getting a reputation as a team that treats its players like crap. You don't think players from around the league take note of what happens here? Free agents are going to think twice before signing.

You don't think players from around the league take note of what happens here? Free agents are going to think twice before signing. Getting that reputation? That reputation has been here for a while now. It's why guys like Dan Uggla don't give us a discount to sign long-term. MLB is a business, but the Marlins handle their players and staff with little dignity, and worst of all, aren't even successful as a business or a baseball team to show for it.
September 14, 201114 yr So...the braves release Wes Helms; they're a model franchise. We release Mike Cameron; we're a bunch of jerks that nobody will ever sign with. Got it!

The Marlins ownership may have a poor reputation among players - I don't pretend to have any idea if that is true or not - but it's most certainly not because they released a bad, old, player.
