And that's the end of the Mike Cameron era.

Mike Cameron now disappears into the night.

/racistjoke.

Really? ...Really? Mike Cameron fan or not, i'm kinda surprised they didn't let him at least ride out the rest of the season. Oh well, won't really be missed.

Makes perfect sense.

He just started jabbering publicly about retiring a day or two ago and his production wasn't worth writing home about, slight injury or not.

Every guy on the roster costs money, no sense wasting it on someone like Cameron.

i dont know if i like this move.

hes done some good things for us and you might as well let him finish out the season.

anyway, if he does retire he had a solid career.

Wow This move is beyond ridiculous. What the hell is the front office doing? He has been hitting lately and is a respected veteran. You dont do that to a guy that has been in the league for over 15 years with 2 weeks left. I cannot stand our front office + Loria and Samson.

Stupid move and very unprofessional

In all fairness, he probaly wanted to go home. The teams losing, he's old. It probably was eating at him his career is gonna end like this and he said he was coming here to play not lead.

He probably was also cut to sign with a team in the playoff an get on the roster in case of an injury or to finish his career with Seattle a's a last hurrah.

I like the last 2 week thing better then a one day contract ceremonial thing.

I actually quite like Cameron, he put on some good shows, and did better than others in the squad.

Kind of a surprise, hopefully he's not seriously injured (knowing Marlins med staff) he could win a settlement against team for releasing while injured.

Mike has been playing through a knee injury and hamstring issues as well.

.330 OBP and .420 Slug. Thats pretty good for a 39 year old that is playing through injury

Thanks. I heard about the hamstring so that's not new to me. Just wondered what the other poster was point to as a possible suit litigation.

Thanks again for the reply.

40 man roster spot would be my guess

More than likely going to activate Scott Cousins from 60 day DL, probably could have called up Coghlan but he needs the rest.

While talking to Jorge Sedano on 790 this morning, Beinfest explained that he would not elaborate on Cameron's release, but that it was a result of "conduct detrimental to the team."

Every release is cause of something they did to the team this year. Wow.

Ah well.

He's always been regarded as a great teammate.
