September 30, 201115 yr " claims that he dislikes being the center of attention outside of the playing field and describes himself as a 'house man' spending his free time with his children." He's married, has three kids, and has been a full time major leaguer for 14 years, spent 3 years in the minors, and has made $92 million dollars. I have no problem understanding why he'd want to retire.

September 30, 201115 yr Didn't say whether I liked it or not. But you have to be awfully narrow minded not to see why he thinks he's done enough.
September 30, 201115 yr hasn't won a world series yet so he should stay another year to win one with this team. :thumbup but yeah... nothing wrong with leaving to be with the family.
September 30, 201115 yr I seem to remember some turmoil in Chicago between him and Ozzie. So if he dosen't retire then I rather doubt he signs here. I think he retires. Yeah I heard that on the radio. He's apparently not a big Ozzie fan.
September 30, 201115 yr Ozzie doesn't like Javy Vazquez. Why? He thinks he's a p***y who only pitches well when there's less pressure on him. He's not making the decisions on who stays and who doesn't, but I would imagine they don't have the best of relationships.
September 30, 201115 yr That was in 2008. It might be water under the bridge because Ozzie said this during his press conference: "There's no doubt [i'd like him back]," Guillen said. "I've managed Javy in the past. I know what he can bring to the table, but I just manage. That's the front office and Javy's business." Now, if Javy sees it as the past, that's another thing entirely.
September 30, 201115 yr I'm pretty sure that Javy has run his course and will retire. He ended on top and there's really nothing else left for him to prove. I think only the allure of a new stadium and new era of Marlins baseball could bring him back. But I put the odds at 75/25 of him retiring.

Well Javy sure did pitch well when we were completely out of it. Like Rab said that was a while ago maybe they have moved past it.

Now, if Javy sees it as the past, that's another thing entirely. To be fair, that's just the politically correct thing to say. You can't really expect him to say anything other than great things about his players during his welcoming party. Even when he's going off on a rant, he rarely ever throws his players under the bus through the media, anyway. When he starts saying "f***" to the media, etc., it's usually because the team, in general, sucks and he's partially blaming himself for it.

And secondly, you can't pick and chose which of his quotes you want to find relevant. Three years is a long time. And hell, Ozzie says that "needs to start being aggressive" sh*t about like 45 different players. Here's an article from 2008: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3602173 None of that says to me that he hates Javy. Also, I had no idea Javy's been talking about retirement this long. I remember some stuff last year but it sounds to me like he's been putting this in his mind for a long time now.

I remember some stuff last year but it sounds to me like he's been putting this in his mind for a long time now. I'm not basing it on his comments to the media. I've met him on multiple occasions before. He and my dad had several baseball conversations like Latino's who love the game usually do when they get together. He didn't like Javy Vazquez in his stint with Chicago.
October 1, 201115 yr I just don't understand why Vazquez would want to hang it up now. The guy finally righted the ship after a rough patch that had started before this season. I know there is that going out on a high note thing, but this year just doesn't seem like the proper high note it should, with the team on the field in the second half just being an afterthought, both to local fans and the nation at large. because he's worried that he may end up having another 2 month "rough patch" that may become 3 months or worse...and instead of ending his career winning pitcher of the month he'll go out with fans tearing into him for being awful (like all of us were for those two months) i wouldn't blame the guy one bit if he called it a career
October 1, 201115 yr I seem to remember some turmoil in Chicago between him and Ozzie. So if he dosen't retire then I rather doubt he signs here. I think he retires. I disagree, this is the closest team to his family so if he does get an itch to play i dont think having Ozzie in the dugout will make too much a difference. If his priorities are playing while being close to his family he will stay here. Thats the reason he didnt retire last year, because this team was close
October 1, 201115 yr Its okay Javy.. we only need you once every 5 days. The other days you can spend as much time with your family as you want!
October 2, 201115 yr Author Its okay Javy.. we only need you once every 5 days. The other days you can spend as much time with your family as you want! Ha, yeah, can we do a Clemens/Astros type of thing?

October 2, 201115 yr No. He had offers from a number of teams. He came here over the others because of Edwin, maybe. But he wasn't retiring.
